J.D.'s Revenge (Film)

J.D.'s Revenge is a 1976 Blaxploitation horror film, directed by Arthur Marks and starring Glynn Turman and Louis Gossett Jr..

Isaac "Ike" Hendrix (Turman) is a mild-mannered law student in New Orleans, working part-time as a cabbie to support himself. After participating in a Bourbon Street hypnosis act, however, he finds himself becoming slowly possessed by the ghost of J.D. Walker (David McKnight), a long-dead gangster and black marketeer. And with Ike, JD has the perfect instrument to take revenge on his killer, the wealthy and powerful Theotis Bliss (Fred Pinkard)...

JD's Revenge contains examples of:

  • Demonic Possession: Ike finds himself slowly possessed by the ghost of JD. While not a demon, JD is certainly ruthless and dangerous.
  • Ghostly Goals: Being a classic Vengeful Ghost, JD returns from the grave to take revenge on the man who murdered him and his sister.
  • Jekyll & Hyde: Ike and JD form such a dynamic. Ike is a mild-mannered everyman, while JD is a crazed and vengeful gangster with very few scruples.
  • Vengeful Ghost: JD possesses Ike to take revenge on the Bliss family, specifically his murderer Theotis.
