The movie also stars Jayne Brook, Jack Warden, Bill Cobbs, Jim Caviezel, Jim O'Heir, Steve Eastin, Brad Hunt, and Stan Ivar.
It was released on March 15, 1996.
Tropes for the film:
- Animal Athlete Loophole: Ed abuses this to no end, with his career riding on the loophole and everyone accepting it.
- As Himself: Tommy Lasorda makes an appearance.
- Celebrity Paradox: At one point the characters are shown watching Friends, the sitcom LeBlanc starred on as Joey Tribbiani.
- Character Title: Ed.
- Hacker Cave: The consultant from I.T. goes to one every evening.
- One-Word Title: Ed.
- Starring Special Effects: Ed himself is accomplished through two actors wearing an animatronic chimpanzee costume, as using a real chimp of his size would have proven impractical.
- Tagline: "Minor league. Major friendship".
- Toilet Humor: The film spends an inordinate amount of time in and around Jack's bathroom, including a scene where both he and Ed relieve themselves. It's also strongly implied that Ed crapped all over it when he first uses it after arriving at Jack's house.
- Too Dumb to Live: Ed, instead of escaping his captors gets distracted and hides out in a frozen banana truck. He nearly freezes to death due to this blunder.
