The Devil's Gift

Go To

After a particularly brutal extermination, the palace hosts a gala to reassure the masses, inviting overlords and hellborn alike. There the king of hell, hiding out on the balcony, meets the radio demon and spends the night with him. In the morning, Alastor leaves, never expecting to see the king of hell again. Unfortunately, the one night of passion has unforeseen consequences, and Alastor finds himself raising Damien, the half-angel, half-demon, son of the devil.

The Devil's Gift is a Hazbin Hotel shipping fic written by PIRI_OOCH. It began publication in March 2024.

This story contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Alastor is intersex in this fic, though he still uses he/him pronouns and thinks of himself as exclusively male.
  • Alien Blood: Damien's angelic energy is enough to turn his blood gold.
  • Amnesiac Lover: When Lilith first tracks down Alastor and makes her deal with him, she tells him that Lucifer has forgotten their encounter and would target Alastor and Damien with prejudice if he ever learned of them to hide the evidence of his own infidelity. However, after Alastor and Lucifer meet again at the hotel and we start to have sections from Lucifer's POV, Laser-Guided Amnesia is strongly hinted to have been applied to Lucifer regarding any memory of Alastor and their first encounter. Though Alastor and Lucifer both blame the amount of alcohol Lucifer was drinking that night, from the reader's perspective it quickly becomes clear that Lucifer hasn't forgotten all of that meeting; however, any of Lucifer's attempts to retrieve the memories or consider Alastor and/or Damien at length consistently result in massive headaches, followed by forgetting what he was even attempting to recall. It is slowly becoming obvious from an outside perspective in-universe that something is off, and in chapter 35, Lucifer admits to Alastor that the headaches have become constant.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Husk gets volunteered to babysit Damien and finds himself playing 'horsey'.
  • Blood Is the New Black: Damien gets splattered with Adams's blood when he helps Nifty finish him off. Thankfully, he's wearing a raincoat.
  • But I Can't Be Pregnant!: Alastor does have the right biology to get pregnant, but he was under the impression that sinners were infertile. Unfortunately for him, relations with a hellborn, or an angel in this case, can get a demon pregnant.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The exorcists practice their spear technique on Alastor, leaving him a bloody mess and covered in scars.
  • Covered with Scars: Alastor's time with the exorcists left him heavily scarred and seeped in angelic energy.
  • Children Are Innocent: Damien is sweet and thinks that Charlie's goal of redeeming sinners is good because he thinks the residents of hell are good people who don't deserve to die again. Even his more violent thoughts come from a place of protectiveness.
  • Cheerful Child: Damien is very chipper for the son of a demon and the devil.
  • Defiant Captive: Alastor managed to bite one of the exorcists torturing him, mocking them while doing it.
  • Doting Grandparent: Aunt, in this case, Rosie makes her intention to spoil Damien very clear. Which is all to plan for Alastor, as he proceeds to make her Hell's equivalent of a godmother and officially designates her as guardian in the event that he does not survive the Extermination or something else happens to him.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Alastor was an unrepentant serial killer in life, but he had a good relationship with his mother and it's her positive influence that helps Alastor accept parenthood. It's also the reason Alastor goes with the moniker of mama and not father.
  • Even Evil Can Be Loved: While in heaven, Alastor's mother catches a glimpse of her son. The love and concern she shows for him makes Emily and Vaggie start to question heaven.
  • Extremely Protective Child: Alastor spent the bulk of Damien's early childhood being tortured by exorcists in heaven. This left Damien with a strong desire to never let his mama be hurt again.
  • Glamour Failure: Alastor puts one on Damien to hide the traits he inherited from Lucifer, but the boy's angelic power means that it wears off quickly or vanishes completely at any display of power by Damien.
  • Good Girls Avoid Abortion: Alastor does consider terminating the pregnancy, but ultimately can't bring himself to go through with it, partly because of his mother's 'dying wish' of being a grandmother.
  • Good Parents: Alastor takes to parenthood surprisingly well despite some initial misgivings.
  • Hates Their Parent: After Lucifer and Alastor have their fight, Damien loses all the affection he had for Lucifer, snapping at him when he gets too close. He eventually calms down enough to at least give Lucifer a second chance.
  • Missing Mom: Lilith has been hiding out in heaven for the past seven years, with no word to her ex-husband or daughter. This is what causes Damien to soften towards Charlie, being willing to share his mama and have Charlie as a sister; despite previously distrusting Charlie for that same connection to Lilith, he realizes she is genuinely ignorant of "the witch's" actions and has been abandoned.
  • Momma's Boy: There is nobody Damien loves more than his mama.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lucifer is horrified with himself for almost killing Alastor after he calms down from his initial rage
  • An Offer You Can't Refuse: Lilith comes to Alastor and offers him help with Damien in exchange for Alastor's soul. She makes it clear that Damien's half-angelic nature could be very dangerous to the boy and nobody will know how to help - except for her, who has previously raised a half-angel child with Lucifer. She also implies that Lucifer will target both Alastor and Damien if he finds out about them, to erase the evidence of his own 'infidelity' to the memory of his marriage with Lilith - ensuring that Alastor has no other avenue to turn to but her.
  • One-Night-Stand Pregnancy: Alastor and Lucifer had one night of passion, and Alastor seemed content to leave it at that and never think of it again. Part of his reasoning for this, of course, is that the still half-asleep Lucifer spoke Lillith's name the morning after, despite Alastor making it a point to have Lucifer say HIS name instead during their encounter - which meant Alastor was very content to slip out without saying goodbye.
  • The One That Got Away: Lucifer is still hung up on Lilith after all this time, blaming himself for her leaving. Alastor, who had hoped that he could use Lucifer in his fight against Lilith, is incensed at Lucifer's loyalty.
  • Power Incontinence: Damien's angelic heritage greatly overpowers his demonic one and is in danger of exploding. His angelic nature also makes it harder for Alastor to disguise him to hide his parentage.
  • Practically Different Generations: Charlie looks like she's in her 20s, though is more likely hundreds of years old, her half brother Damien is 8.
  • Protected by a Child: When Lucifer mistakingly thinks Alastor made a deal for Charlie's soul, he prepares to kill the demon, but is stopped when Damien intervenes.
  • Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Lucifer worries after seeing Alastor's torture that one of his brothers went further, resulting in Damien. He's incensed enough that he's willing to help Alastor get revenge. When he finally learns that Damien is actually his child, Lucifer then worries that he forced Alastor and somehow forgot about it. Fortunately, once he realizes what Lucifer is assuming, Alastor clarifies that the encounter was entirely consensual, albeit with both of them having drunk quite a bit of alcohol before initiating anything.
  • Reflexive Response: Alastor finds himself 'mothering' Charlie the way he would Damien, such as picking her up and brushing her off after she falls.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: While Damien is mostly a Cheerful Child, witnessing Alastor being tortured for 7 years and living in a place as dangerous as hell have made him willing to be violently protective, promising to kill any angels who hurt his mother.
    • Lucifer is particularly disturbed by Damien's willingness to kill and be completely fine with it.
  • Sadist: All the exorcists, sans Vaggie, have no problem torturing Alastor. They're outright delighted at the chance.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Morningstar traits are apparently very strong as Damien inherits the same blonde hair and rosy cheeks that Charlie has.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: As he thought sinners were infertile, Alastor doesn't realize he's pregnant until Rosie recognizes the symptoms and tells him about sinners getting pregnant from sex with hellborn.
  • Wacky Cravings: Wacky by Alastor's standards anyway. During his pregnancy, he finds himself craving apples.
  • Warm Milk Helps You Sleep: Lucifer runs into Damien in the kitchen late at night getting some warm milk. He uses it as an opportunity to bond.
  • Wound Licking: Alastor is forced to bloodlet Damien to prevent the angelic energy from building up. He closes the wound by licking it.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: After their night together, Lucifer calls out Lilith's name in his sleep, much to Alastor's anger; as a result, Alastor leaves without saying goodbye or waking Lucifer up, and he's still holding a grudge over it (plus the grudge for all the experiences Lilith has put him through in subsequent years) when they meet again at the hotel and Lucifer proves to not remember said night.
  • Your Son All Along: Lucifer clocks Damien as half-angel right away and develops a bond with him. However, he doesn't realize that Damien is his until Damien's glamour falls off.
