Adalheidis is a My Hero Academia fanfic by DeusVerve. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

A few days after attacking Saito, Himiko Toga saves a skeletal blonde man from a mugger. Said skeletal blonde man turns out to be Toshinori Yagi, also known as All Might, who takes her back to Might Tower and later goes on to arrest her parents, adopt her, and offer her One For All. Shortly after, Izuku Midoriya impresses All Might with his heroism and decides to train him to be a Quirkless Hero.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Accidental Public Confession: During Shinsou's declaration of war to the hero students before the Sports Festival, and Izuku tries to call him out for his arrogance, he counters by saying that not everyone can be blessed with strong Quirks. Izuku happily shuts him down by revealing that he's Quirkless and still made it past the Practical exam and into the Hero course, before continuing to take him to task for trying to bully 1-A for almost dying. It's only when Himiko tells him how cool the entire moment was that it registers that he might have just publicly admitted his Quirkless status to all their classmates, with Ochako confirming that yes, that is exactly what he did.
  • Adaptational Context Change: While in canon Shinsou's argument against 1-A was still treated as mostly wrong, he had a point that powerful quirks were practically a requirement for the Hero Course, as Midoriya needed One for All to have a shot at entering. Here, on the other hand, Izuku was able to pass the entrance exam without requiring a quirk at all, meaning that Shinsou complaining about the others being blessed by strong quirks holds no water whatsoever, and his argument is quickly shut down by Izuku.
  • Adaptational Goal Change: While All for One is still trying to become a stereotypical Evil Overlord and has molded his image based on comic book villains, the reasons for doing so are slightly different here as revealed in chapter 49: He is a Hero-Worshipper, and wants to become the final boss of the ultimate hero that would inevitably rise up to defeat him according to the narrative he has built. It's even implied that he deliberately helped create most of the current hero society all so that he could create his ultimate hero against to whom have an epic final showdown and go down in a blaze of glory.
  • Adaptational Heroism: With Himiko being adopted by Toshinori, instead of becoming the Serial Killer she was in canon, this trope is a given as she trains to become a hero.
  • Adaptational Karma: In canon, Toga's parents never experienced any consequences for denying Toga blood and pressuring her to be "normal", as well as abandoning her after she attacked Saito. Here, they are arrested for multiple counts of child neglect and abuse, with Saito's parents also suing them for allowing the situation to happen in the first place after dropping the charges against Himiko.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Kaibara, who is somewhat of an Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy and a Sore Loser in canon, is instead quite nice to Izuku, probably because the latter saved him during the entrance exam.
  • Adaptational Relationship Change:
    • Himiko has no relations with All Might in canon. Here, she's his adopted daughter and successor.
    • Izuku and Himiko are enemies in canon. Here, they (and later, Ochako) are all best friends. Izuku and Himiko even begin dating by the time they start UA, and Inko and All Might immediately place bets on when Ochako will join the relationship due to how obviously their kids are into her. Ochako starts dating them after the Sports Festival.
    • Himiko and Hakagure never meet in canon. Here they are friends, with Izuku also shown to be closer to Hagakure than he is canonically.
    • Himiko replaces Mineta in Class 1-A; meanwhile, Izuku is in class 1-B (with Shoda moved to 1-A to balance out the classes).
    • In their battle trial team-up, Bakugo manages to sink any chance of Mina wanting to befriend or work with him. As shown in the cavalry battle of the sports tournament, this also applies to most of the rest of the class.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change:
    • Himiko gains One For All as a result of Toshinori becoming attached to his adopted daughter and seeing her potential.
    • As a result of Himiko now having One For All, Izuku has no superpowers to speak of.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Several are thrown around by various characters. The most notable examples are Himiko being referred to by Izuku as "Himemiko" or just "Miko" after they start dating, and conversely her referring to him as just "Ku". Ochako changes his nickname of Izuku from the canon "Deku" to "Dekiru", and he later starts referring to her as "Coco".
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Inko Midoriya can be this from time to time, most notably when the Yagis first come to visit their apartment. She also has no problems with teasing her son about his romantic life.
  • Ascended Extra: The four friends from Himiko's middle school showcased in the ending of season 4 of the anime are given names and personalities here. The one that looks like a sheep is called Kei and wants to be journalist, the one with long neck and pink skin is named Oshiro and wants to make mascot characters, the one with long dark hair gets called Maekawa and wants to go into fashion, and the one that somewhat resembles Ochako is named Yoshino and Himiko had a particular crush on her. All four girls are looking to reconnect with Himiko and felt terrible for not realizing how much she was struggling under her Normal mask.
    • All of class 1-B are given more screentime than in canon, as Izuku goes there instead of to 1-A.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Todoroki speaks with Himiko in the sports festival, the readers are lead to expect that he is about to ask if Himiko is All Might's secret love child, which would be more accurate to her relationship with him that in canon... But instead he just asks if he let her take his blood to copy his quirk.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: Himiko finds Izuku at Aldera being harassed by his bullies, and after pushing back against them, kisses him in front of his bullies to affirm to him that yes, she really does want him. Much Ochako receives a similar kiss to reafirm her that she is very much welcome in the relationship.
  • Blatantly Self-Defeating: The group of first years that declared war on 1-A to "pull the rug from under their high horses" are considered this by Izuku. Even beyond the fact that it was very callous for someone who ostensibly want to become heroes to bully people for basically almost getting killed, or how unlikely it would be for them to win the sports festival if they couldn't pass the entrance exam, all they managed to do was put a massive target on their backs for no real gain, and alienated future classmates in the event that they somehow did get a transfer. The very same classmates that could have helped them be brought back up to speed in their curriculum and become potential co-workers after graduation. It would have been better they hadn't said anything at all.
  • Break the Cutie: Kinoko doesn't have the best experience with the sports festival, barely making it to the second stage and spending nearly all of it brainwashed by Shinsou. At least she soon gets Setsuna to comfort her shortly thereafter.
  • Break the Haughty:
    • This is Bakugou's character development so far. Nothing goes his way since arriving at UA, from being upstaged by Himiko in multiple ocassions, to being surpassed by "Deku" in the sports festival and later in an one on one match, to nobody wanting to side with him in the Cavalry Battle. About the only thing that manages to accomplish is give Shinsou a "Reason You Suck" Speech when the latter tries to use his quirk on him to literally carry him to victory.
    • Iida is a downplayed example, while nothing too bad happens to him, he is consistently proven wrong on several occasions where he makes a reckless assumption, like dismissing Izuku's performance or joining what appears to be the strongest team in the cavalry battle only for that to not be enough for the top spot, among others. These have the cumulative effect of humbling him faster than in canon.
  • Break Them by Talking: Sir Nighteye does this to Himiko, forcing his way into Might Tower to berate her for not meeting his standards as a proper successor to All Might, his words causing her to have a panic attack.
Sir Nighteye: Everything about you makes me sick. You are subpar in every way. You lack in any skills. You have no presence to you. And worst of all, you are a Villain. You could never become the symbol that Yagi— that he thinks you could be. I respect him greatly, but I cannot fathom why he chose to take you in, and worse, to entrust you with—with his legacy. Yagi frequently has such meaningless whims. To make you his daughter was the most foolhardy of his many idiotic impulses. You do not deserve the name Yagi. You deserve to be in Tartarus. When I looked into his future, I did not see you as part of it. So I am at least fortunate that your stint here will be mercifully brief.
  • Breather Episode: A few chapters qualify as this. For example, the chapter inmediately after Sir Nighteye's rant above consists mostly on Himiko visiting the mall with Hagakure and Izuku to unwind, and the chapter inmediately after marks the introduction of Gran Torino to the story.
  • Brutal Honesty: Gran Torino does not pull any punches when telling Himiko and Izuku about the dark parts of Himiko's adoption and the dark side of heroics. For the former, he still remembers how Nana's family was killed. For the latter, he mentions it takes about two years before a hero might accidentally or be forced to either maim or kill a villain. All Might has been the relative exception that still has moments he had to be more forceful, especially earlier in his career. That being said, compared to Nighteye's cruelty and disregard for Himiko's person, he's at least doing so out of a desire to ensure they understand the danger they're getting themselves into, and he's willing to give them his unique brand of training to make sure they can thrive.
  • Call-Back: Himiko decides to clean Takoba Beach because she remembers one of her middle-school friends, Kei, loves the beach and she wants her to enjoy the view one day. After the Sports Festival, she, Izuku and Ochako are enjoying a day at the beach, and Kei ends up running into them and recognizing Himiko.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Gran Torino training Izuku and Himiko after they finish cleaning up the beach proves to be instrumental in more ways than helping them pass the entrance exam. The only reason that in the Cavalry battle Himiko barely manages to dodge Todoroki being propelled by Iida's Recipro Burst (And therefore keep him from taking her headband and disqualifying her team) is because she's used to Gran Torino's fighting style, relying on speed
  • Combat Pragmatist: Izuku leans into Gran Torino's suggestion of becoming a "heroic assassin", acknowledging that his lack of a Quirk means he'll have to take any advantage he can in a fight, no matter how underhanded.
  • Control Freak: Nighteye, who sees himself as being Cruel to Be Kind and a necessary voice of reason to ensure that All Might gets the right kind of successor. Unfortunately for him, all his callous behavior accomplishes is reopening Himiko's old emotional wounds by constantly reminding her of her faults and earning All Might and Gran Torino's disgust.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Several of the Sport Festival Tournament matches ended up this way, especially in the first round. Himiko vs Iida and Ochako vs Kirishima are notably great matchups in the girls' favor with the rules of the tournament, and they are over in a matter of seconds.
    • Bakugo vs Midoriya in Chapter 69. Midoriya's opening move is breaking Bakugo's right arm, rendering him unable to fight.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: The Tokage vs Todoroki match is one-sided in the latter's favour, but he does not get an instant win by unleashing his glacier on the former. It takes Todoroki several more minutes of him freezing more of Tokage's body parts to be declared winner.
  • Deconstructed Trope: The "declaration of war" of the rest of the first years against class 1-A is given this treatment. Izuku argues that there was simply no way for that to go right, as if they really wanted to transfer, they had just mocked and bullied people who were not just future classmates, but eventually potential co-workers. It would have been much smarter of them to try to befriend the hero course students and try to learn the curriculum they were missing, or at least have more information to work with. All they accomplished with their jealousy and hostility was make everyone weary of them.
  • Destructive Savior: Mt.Lady is signaled by Izuku as this in his notebooks, but with emphasis on the "Savior" part. He notes that while she's pretty bad with property damage, her civilian care is on par with more experienced heroes. This is to the point that she's one of the few heroes present at the Sludge Villain incident that All Might doesn't consider to have made a poor job, because she at least did her best to keep civilians out of danger instead of just standing around.
  • Dick Dastardly Stops to Cheat: Shinsou's team could have advanced in the Sports Festival if he hadn't chosen to brainwash them all into joining him. Kinoko flat-out tells him she would have helped if he'd just asked, but instead he took the decision out of their hands.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: The Togas do this without realizing when Toshinori comes to their house to investigate their abhorrent treatment of Himiko. Thinking he's here to capture her for the Saito incident, they are quick to throw her under the proverbial bus and downplay their actions, which only manages to piss Yagi off.
  • Diligent Hero, Slothful Villain: Shinsou ends up being the slothful villain in the Sports Festival to a number of characters that serve as the diligent hero. The most obvious examples are Himiko (Whom he dismisses as a blessed someone who should be knocked out of their high horse), Izuku (Whom he cannot even conceive how he passed the entrance exam when Shinsou didn't, and thinks he's using Himiko as a bodyguard) and even Bakugou (Whom he uses as little more than a convenient lackey). The latter calls Shinsou out on basically being expecting his team to literally carry him out to victory, and that while his Quirk is indeed great, he is only strong because he trained like crazy to make it happen.
  • Dramatic Irony: Some characters like Shinsou or even Ochako a couple of times, make assumptions about Himiko regarding things like her powerful Quirk or how fortunate she is in living in Might Tower, unaware that she just recently escaped a horribly abusive situation and all of those things are very recent developments.
  • Down in the Dumps: As in canon, All Might sends his trainees to clean the Takoda beach as both a training exercise and a public service. In this case, not only do they end the job in half the time since there's two of them, but both aspects of the cleaning end up being crucial to the plot, as it's both the sense of acomplishment and the satisfaction of having helped the community what motivates Himiko to accept One for All.
  • Entertainingly Wrong:
    • Given her ability to copy people's Quirks by drinking blood and the fact that she lives in Might Tower, Todoroki assumes that All Might let Himiko drink his blood to copy his quirk. While that is technically correct, he is missing a few key details about her situation.
    • Shinsou has made several incorrect assumptions about Himiko and Izuku. He considers Himiko someone blessed with a strong Quirk who probably never struggled a day in her life, not knowing she only recently escaped an abusive situation and received said strong Quirk. He also thinks Izuku is only coddling up to her for protection rather than having a mutual relationship, in which she was the one to first approach him.
  • Everyone Can See It: Himiko and Izuku are told several times that they weren't exactly subtle with their feelings for each other even before they themselves recognized it, with Inko comforting them afterwards that they weren't exactly dense, just confused and in the need of some time to figure themselves out. Later, the exact same thing happens with Ochako.
  • Fantastic Ableism: Just like in canon, Izuku is a victim of this while attending Aldera middle school. When he reveals to the first year students of UA that he is quirkless, he is terrified of the same thing happening at his new school after working so hard to have a fresh start. However, in UA the teachers condemn this behaviour, with Vlad King in particular stating that this mentality will not be tolerated, and the students that engage in it are in a considerable minority. Even the few who do it are shown to do so out of misguided concern rather than malicius mocking like in Aldera.
  • Foil:
    • Gran Torino to Nighteye.
      • Nighteye considers himself to be the most well-suited to determining who would be the best successor to All Might, and views All Might's choice of his surrogate daughter as nothing but a terrible decision, refusing to acknowledge her potential or her personhood. However, his actions only betray that of a Control Freak who disregards the desires and interests of his former partner, inviting himself to All Might's domain without permission or being asked, callously tearing down Himiko to the point of tears, and shows a lack of understanding of All Might as a person when he considers the hero and the man (Toshinori) to be one and the same. He is ultimately thrown out (metaphorically) and told to never come back.
      • Gran Torino by contrast is an old hero who personally trained All Might and was asked to help train Himiko after the fallout of the above, and while he has mixed feelings about Himiko being the next wielder, it has nothing to do with her as a person. Rather, his concerns have more to do with the reality of not only trying to get into a difficult profession in the cutthroat hero industry but also the sheer amount of stress and difficulty she would face if anyone found out her relation to her surrogate father. That being said, his advice is sound and he makes the effort to build both Himiko and Izuku up, encouraging the latter to really delve into the strengths of his analytical skills. Despite All Might being rightfully scared of him, he's accepted as the right teacher for the job.
    • Vlad King and Aizawa's teaching methods, with an entire chapter dedicated to switching back and forth between them. Aizawa is a Sink-or-Swim Mentor with a very loose structure, while Vlad is very strict and orderly, yet also supportive.
    • With the Battle Trials, Vlad also is a foil to All Might, although in this case showcasing the difference in teaching experience. The latter's explanation is from canon, while the veteran teacher carefully explains what the students will be doing, the points of the exercise, and makes clear how it is to build upon future heroic lessons.
    • Shinsou ends up contrasting with Monoma during the sports festival. Neither of them are happy with the publicity that 1-A is receiving after the USJ attack because of their inferiority complexes, and they are both called out by Izuku for their callousness regarding people who had almost died. However, Monoma had started to become friends with Izuku prior to the callout, admits that he was wrong almost instantly, and roots for him in the sports festival despite knowing him that he's quirkless. By contrast Shinsou had no prior interactions with Izuku, only doubles down after being called out on his unheroic behaviour, and is outraged to find that someone without a quirk managed to get into the hero course but he didn't.
  • Force and Finesse: Yagi Himiko considers herself the "Force" to Momo's "Finesse", telling her that she would be too stupid to use Momo's quirk other than making a buttload of knives that she already has. While Momo counters that Yagi isn't exactly stupid, the blonde responds that even in that case, she's not as smart as her or Izuku.
  • Hero with an F in Good: Bakugou is this just as much as in canon, but Izuku also accuses all of the Non-Hero course students that declared war on class 1-A to be this, as it's extremely unheroic for them to resent a fellow group of students for having been caught in a situation in which they all nearly died.
  • History Repeats: Izuku reacts to Himiko's crush on him the exact same way that Ochako eventually does to her crushes on both of them, much to their chagrin: Both believe they aren't good enough for the other party and need to be snapped out of it by a kiss
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Every single chapter is named for a breed of red flower.
  • Interrupted Intimacy: A downplayed version given the story's rating. Himiko was seconds away from drinking Ockaco's blood from her neck at the latter's request after the Sports Festival when they are interrupted by none other than Midnight, for an added layer of Irony.
  • The Juggernaut: The Nomu demonstrates this quality in the USJ even more prominently than in canon. He manages to shrug off being torn to ribbons by an uncontrolled Blackwhip, nearly killing its owner before the arrival of All Might.
  • Keep the Reward: When Toshinori and Inko make a bet regarding when Ochako will join their kids in their relationship, Toshinori tells Inko this when she loses. While the Inko insists on Toshinori keeping the money, he tells her that it will find its way back to her in one way or another.
  • Lampshade Hanging: When cleaning the beach together, Izuku wonders who would even throw away a steel girder of all things, as seen in the episode of the anime. To which the agreed answer between the characters seems to be "A lunatic".
  • Learned from the News:
    • After hearing that All Might himself helped arrest a couple for multiple counts of child neglect and abuse, Toga winces, thinking she'd hate to be the kid whose life was so bad that the number one hero had to get involved. Then she looks at the news broadcast and sees her house on the screen, with her parents being led out in handcuffs.
    • Kei, Himiko's old middle-school friend, finally finds out what happened to her when she sees her on TV participating in the U.A. Sports Festival.
  • Meaningful Name: The title of the story is a reference to the character Queen Adelheid from The Record of a Fallen Vampire, whose name is derived from the word Adalheidis. She was a gentle queen who was sealed away when she was forced past her breaking point and lost control of her devastating magic, unleashing it on the world.
  • Mood Whiplash: A couple of ocassions:
    • The ninth chapter consists for the most part on Izuku and Himiko having a sleepover at Mighty Tower... then the chapter ends with Himiko succumbing to temptation and drinking a bit of Izuku's blood before being discovered by him.
    • The beach date after the sports festival seems to be a Breather Episode after the competition but before the internship arc... and then Kei arrives and Himiko gets a painful reminder of her past.
  • My Friends... and Zoidberg: In chapter 57, Himiko is determined to not lose the band on the Cavalry Battle because it "represents everything she, Izuku, and Ochaco did in the Obstacle Race. It’s the culmination of the three of them together, and also Hatsume". Justified since she has only known her for twenty minutes at most.
  • Mythology Gag: Someone gets their arm broken during the Battle Trials; in this case, Bakugou. When he tries using his big explosion on Himiko, she redirects his arm away from the building foundations and to a position where he isn't bracing himself properly, so his explosion's backlash breaks his own arm.
  • Oh, Crap!: Todoroki panics when he realizes that he used his fire powers in the sport festival after failing to get Himiko's headband.
    • Similarly, a student gets an unfair disadvantage at the first match of the Sport Festival Tournament because of the rules of the competition, and gets disqualified in the matter of seconds. Instead of Momo, who manages to win her first match, the unlucky one is Iida, who has the misfortune of being pitted against Himiko without enough space to properly use his superior speed, and loses by a ring out.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: When Shinsou gets Bakugou, Kinoko, and Kuroiro under his Quirk, their classmates quickly notice something is off since they are all clearly not behaving like themselves.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Perhaps the biggest one is Himiko not going villain thanks to All Might saving her at the crucial point.
    • Himiko's parents are found out to be abusive, resulting in an arrest.
    • All Might reveals his form to Toga and adopts her.
    • With Himiko's insight, she's able to get Izuku to slow down on his training because she points out that if he's constantly tired, it will be detrimental to his condition and long-term prospects.
    • Himiko gets One for All instead of Izuku because All Might met her first.
    • Himiko and Izuku receive training from Gran Torino before ever setting foot in U.A.
    • Izuku is placed in 1-B instead of 1-A, presumably because of his different Quirk status to canon. Incidentally, the fact that he has friendly relations to several members of the other class (And him calling out Monoma when he tries to set up the rivalry between the classes after the USJ incident, causing him to realize how callous he's being) results on both sides of the Hero Course being more willing to cooperate in events like the Sports Festival.
    • Shinsou mind controls Bakugou into being part of his team for the Cavalry battle. When Bakugou snaps out of it, he drops Shinsou and eliminates their team, not only because he's angry with Shinsou for trying to get other people to carry him to victory, but also because he'd rather lose than be carried to victory.
    • Himiko takes first, with Izuku taking second while Ochako and Shoto share third place in the Sports festival.
    • Izuku, Ibara and Reiko have different Hero Names compared to canon, with the author admitting for the latter two that it doesn't translate or localize well in Japan.
    • Due to his different approach as to what type of hero he wants to be, Izuku ends up choosing an intership with Edgeshot. In the same class, Kendo chooses Blackbelt instead of Uwabami. Ochako goes with Shishido and Himiko goes with Miruko for the internships.
  • Polyamory: Ochako officially joins Izuku's and Himiko's relationship in Chapter 62, turning them into a polyamorous triad.
  • Repression Never Ends Well: A recurring theme with the story. Himiko herself is the most prominent example, with her life starting to turn around upon finding someone that didn't force to repress her Quirk for the sake of keeping an image, even if she still struggles with this for a while. Similarly, it's suggested that repressing part of his Quirk might have contributed to Shoto Todoroki's abrasive attitude during the early days of the hero course, and Himiko openly wonders if he will end up immolating someone if he doesn't stop holding back his fire.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Downplayed with Todoroki in the Cavalry Battle of the Sports Festival. He pulls off a risky gambit with the rest of his team to try ang take the first place headband from Himiko. However, by the time he did this, they were already on second place, and not short on points. There was no reason for him to risk getting eliminated other than trying to settle his personal rivalry against her.
  • Revenge Is Not Justice: Endeavor's situation is portrayed as this. As satisfying as it would be to simply out him (Or as Nedzu considered, get him out of the way), it would also open a huge can of worms, including for the people that they are trying to help. So Yagi and Nedzu decide to bide their time and make preparations to properly fix things.
  • Rocket-Tag Gameplay: Izuku vs Tokoyami in the Sports festival tournament has shades of this. Izuku realizes that while Dark Shadow is nearly unbeatable for him and would probably take him down in one hit, hir owner is vulnerable and would probably go down in one hit too. The key to victory for Izuku is therefore closing the distance fast enough for him to be the first to land said hit. He succeeds, and while Dark Shadow manages to hit him an instant later, it's too late and Izuku wins the match.
  • Rock–Paper–Scissors: Vlad King and Eraserhead decide who gets to use the USJ first by playing Rock-Paper-Scissors. Kan won three times in a row before Aizawa broke that streak.
  • Rush Boss: A non-videogame example. Himiko considers Momo to be this in the second round of the Sports Festival Tournament. Either she manages to eliminate her almost inmediately, or Momo would use the slightest breathing room to counter and eliminate her instead. This results in Himiko pushing Stained Red to her limits of her safety in order to end the match quickly, and Momo still manages to withstand a couple of hits.
  • Ship Tease: Besides the main couple of Himiko and Izuku Joined later by Ochako, the Sports Festival gives us Komori and Setsuna, who comfort each other when they get disqualified.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Slumber Party: After the USJ attack, Himiko has Izuku and Ochako over to Might Tower for a slumber party after the traumatic event.
  • So Proud of You: Vlad King informs Izuku that he is proud of having the guts to admit that he was quirkless in front of the rest of the course to defend his fellow students, before telling him that he has the full support of the teachers if anyone bothers him about it.
  • Spared, but Not Forgiven: Non-lethal example; after hearing Himiko's whole story, Saito admits he can't forgive her for hurting him, but he and his family are willing to drop the charges against her and shift the lawsuit to her Abusive Parents.
  • Stalker Without a Crush: Nighteye's approach to becoming All Might's sidekick, from what Yagi himself describes, was effectively the same as Buddy Pine's toward Mr. Incredible. Nighteye followed him around everywhere and hounded him about it non-stop, despite knowing All Might's stance on sidekicks, until the man finally relented. All Might pinpoints this tendency as how Nighteye tracked Himiko to Might Tower to harass her: by stalking the building and his social media to know when she'd be there.
  • Through His Stomach: A non-romantic version. One of the reasons Toshinori manages to convince Himiko to come over to Mighty tower is by providing her with the food that she needs, including her dietary blood requirements.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Himiko is baffled that Hagakure doesn't find the fact that her Quirk uses blood to activate worth more than an "oh, cool". She's more interested in things like wether or not transforming in her would turn Himiko invisible.
  • Victory by Endurance:
    • All Izuku needs to win his match against Kaminari in the Sports Festival is use his modified tonfas to tank the blonde's electric shockwave. Kaminari ends up frying his own brain and being unable to fight, leaving Izuku the winner by default.
    • This is also the case for the Todoroki vs Ashido match. After a certain point, the fight devolves into a competition of which one can keep up their quirk use longer than the other, and Todoroki ends up the winner.
  • Voluntary Vampire Victim: First Izuku and later Ochako agree to let Himiko drink their blood whenever she wants to, as long as they don't need to exert themselves that day.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Izuku, and later All Might, give Sir Nighteye this in Chapter 16 after he brutally tore Himiko down and drove her to tears and a panic attack. The callous nature of his actions causes All Might to cut all ties with his former sidekick.
  • Worf Barrage: In the USJ batttle, Blackwhip of all things ends up being this to the Nomu. Its a formidable asset that can tear throug the terrain with ease, helps Himiko save Uraraka against certain death, and seemingly uses it to tear the Nomu to shreds... But then the Nomu simply regenerates barely any worse for the wear, and manages to overpower it. If it wasn't for All Might arriving just in time, Himiko would have died right then and there.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Momo receives one of these courtesy of Himiko when she's lamenting not being able to do anything during their match. Himiko not only praises how smart Momo is and that she needed to push herself to the extreme to eliminate the reccomendation student quickly, but reminds her that she was the one that got them help in time in the USJ.
Himiko: You were the one who got the flare out at the USJ, right? Then you’re the reason we all survived. You saved us, Yaomomo. You’re a Hero."
  • You Are Not Alone: Himiko says this to Todoroki word for word after he tells her his backstory as to why he is trying to defeat her, knowing by personal experience how much of a difference it can make for someone to lend you a hand when you need it. Notably, even though she tells him that she's still not willing to forgive him for dismissing Izuku for not having a Quirk and that she's still going to beat him, Todoroki appreciates the gesture.
