20th Television Animation (formerly Fox Television Animation) is an American animation studio that creates, develops and produces adult animated television series and specials. It began life as the animation operations of Twentieth Century Fox Television. While Fox had the produced the movie spinoff Return to the Planet of the Apes earlier, the genesis of 20th Television Animation was the 1989 premiere of The Simpsons (having been spun off from material that aired on The Tracey Ullman Show). The success of that series enabled Fox to produce companion programs, as well as launch an in-house production unit in 1999 (formerly known as Fox Television Animation). 20th Television Animation did not become a separate production entity until 2020. It is a unit of Disney Television Studios, a subsidiary of Disney Entertainment Television, which is part of the Disney Entertainment division of The Walt Disney Company.
Most of their TV shows are on Fox, owing to a former co-ownership, or Hulu.
