Mitsuru Adachi

Go To

Mitsuru Adachi (Japanese: あだち 充 or 安達 充, written as あだち 充 in his professional works, Adachi Mitsuru, born February 9, 1951) is a Japanese manga artist and considered an important figure among 70s generation mangaka.

If you notice, the majority of his works and the most popular of them are about baseball—even at present, he continues to work on baseball manga, making him a very iconic figure in that niche of the sports genre. However, that doesn't mean it's all he ever makes manga about; he's dabbled in other sports as well, such as boxing, and even drew manga for a few shoujo magazines back in the day. Overall, his work is usually lighthearted or comedic, with heavy elements of character exploration and romance.

Adachi is one of the flagship authors of Shonen Sunday, and even was something of a rival to running mate Rumiko Takahashi in the 80s.

  • Author Appeal: He really really really likes baseball.
  • Friendly Rivalry: With Rumiko Takahashi. As contemporaries and popular mangaka in Shounen Sunday, they often competed with each other in popularity, with Adachi losing to Takahashi many times. There are no hard feelings either way; they both liked to work with one another, and Takahashi even confessed to wanting "Mitsuru Adachi" as an alternate pen name.
