Secret Avengers is a 2014 comic book series published by Marvel Comics as part of the All New Marvel NOW! initiative. The series is written by Ales Kot, with art by Michael Walsh, and is the third volume of Secret Avengers.
S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Maria Hill has assembled a black ops team with the cooperation of The Avengers for missions too murky for the Avengers to publicly be involved with. The team consists of Agents Nick Fury Jr, Phil Coulson, and Avengers Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Spider-Woman. However, Maria has also hired M.O.D.O.K., which the rest of the team is unaware of.
The first issue was released March 12, 2014. The series ran for 15 issues, with the final issue released April 29, 2015.
Secret Avengers provides examples of:
- Action Girl: Natasha Romanov/Black-Widow, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman
- Denser and Wackier: Especially when compared to the previous volumes.
- Hive City: A psychic replica of the Kowloon Walled City figures into the plot.
- Large Ham: MODOK.
- Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius: Also a major part of the story, somehow.
- Wham Shot: In issue 5, Fury opens Coulson's locker, which was booby-trapped. He gets sprayed with acid and is put in a coma as a result.
- Working with the Ex: Hawkeye and Black Widow, and Hawkeye and Spider-Woman.
