    Andrew "Andy" Larkin
The main character of the show and the self-proclaimed world's greatest prankster. Clever and confident, he seeks to express himself though the art of practical jokery, using East Gackle and its hapless citizens as his canvas... even if things don't always go his way
  • Adaptational Intelligence: His counterpart in Andy Griffiths' Just Series was very daft and Book Dumb, often coming up with stupid ideas and lacking the wits and charisma needed to pull of his schemes. In contrast, Andy Larkin is a Brilliant, but Lazy Brainy Brunette whose failures usually result more from bad luck or unforeseen consequences than any incompetence on his part.
  • Adaptation Personality Change:
    • While still an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist who infuriates everyone around him with his mischief, he's depicted more as a self-expressing trickster who treats each prank as a work of art rather than the manic brat of Andy Griffiths' Just Series.
    • Owing to the heavy use of grossout comedy in the books, he was a big Nightmare Fetishist in Andy Griffiths' Just Series, often writing disturbing stories to amuse himself. While the show still retains some grossout humor, he's not distinctively noted for his obsession with.
  • Age Lift: Changed from a preteen in Andy Griffiths' Just Series to a teenager.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Jen sure thinks so.
  • Anti-Hero: While he likes to stir the pot, Andy isn't villainous or malevolent, but merely a mischievous trickster.
  • Berserk Button: Messing with Lori is a surefire way to end up on the receiving end of his pranks.
  • Big Eater: Downplayed, but he still eats quite a bit.
  • Brainy Brunette: May not be a good student but his pranks prove he is quite intelligent, and he does have dark hair.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: When he narrates, he addresses the audience.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: As he acknowledges in "The Answers," if he dedicated his brainpower to studying in school as much as he did to pranking, he'd get straight A's and be in college the next year.
  • Butt-Monkey: Quite often, his pranks go awry in a way that ends with him being completely humiliated. Even when his pranks do succeed, he gets caught and punished anyway. If anything, it seems karma is the one thing he can never outsmart.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': He's almost always punished anytime he pranks someone even if said prank was harmless.
  • The Cassandra: Andy's lengthy history of pranking often leads people to not trust him, even when he's being sincere and telling the truth.
  • Catchphrase: "Check, Please!"
  • Character Narrator: Sometimes he narrates to the audience.
  • Child Hater: He doesn't hate children, but at first he didn't like the preschoolers he had to share with in "The Show Must Go On", as he thought it was undignified for him to socialize with children who had "just recently learned to go to the bathroom in a toilet instead of in their pants." However, when he stood up to a kid who was bullying them, they all became friends.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Quite often he loses or tears his pants.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Particularly when Jen is around. Also sometimes says things like "kill me now" if he's bored, however, it's a downplayed example as he's not that snarky.
  • Deconstructed Character Archetype: While the show itself doesn't dive into it (it is a kids show after all), many episodes highlight that Andy's status as The Prankster alienates him from his family, his classmates, basically the entire town of East Gackle and especially his Love Interest Lori. Lori states on a number of occasions that she actually does like Andy and would probably date him if he stopped being a prankster. There are also a few episodes that also show that Andy is failing in school due to his consistent focus on pranks rather than his studies. Additionally, for all his skills as a prankmaster, Andy is a massive Butt-Monkey who constantly falls victim to karma, with nearly every episode seeing him get caught and punished for his mischief in the end.
  • Disguised in Drag: In "Just Stuffing" when he was copying Jen and "Emergency Spew Relish" when he was pretending to be a "granny" as well as dressing up as his crush Lori during " She Pranks Me, She Pranks Me Not".
  • Faking the Dead: In "Playing Dead", he pretends to be dead to get out of being used in a dunk tank.
  • Flaw Exploitation: Part of what makes Andy such an effective prankster is that he knows his targets and how to use their personality traits to his advantage. In one episode he baits Jen into thinking he's pulling pranks on his parents only for her to find out the way hard way that he hadn't actually done anything, effectively exploiting her paranoia regarding his constant pranking.
  • Hated by All: Is hated by pretty much everyone in East Gackle with the notable exceptions of Danny, Mush and sometimes Lori.
  • It Runs in the Family: His grandpa is a prankster, and his dad used to be one.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While mostly Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist trickster, he has his Pet the Dog moments, particularly towards his friend Danny and his crush Lori.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: Master prankster he may be, but karma always catches him at the end of the day, and nearly every episode ends with him being punished in some way for his pranks, regardless of whether his pranks succeed or not.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: He often gets his karma when his pranks backfire on him.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Mainly wears blue jeans and a white T-shirt with red trim.
  • My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: In "What's With Jean-Thomas?", he's trying to say "If you practice, you could win the Stanley Cup" in French. What he says is French, but it actually translates to "Your ears are so big that you look like the Stanley Cup".
  • Not Me This Time: Is often accused for bad stuff happening even if he hasn't done any pranks or mischief.
  • Playing Sick: In "Gooey Chewies", Andy pretends to have caught Lori's "cold". There was also his You Don't Want to Catch This moment in "Emergency Spew Relish".
  • Potty Dance: In "Busting". He even says "Hold it in. Do a dance, that's the way to keep dry pants."
  • Potty Emergency: In "Busting", he has to pee while at a mall.
  • Prank Injuries: Fakes a broken leg in "Nurse Jen".
  • The Prankster: The cornerstone of his character. He considers himself the greatest prankster in the world, and some of his pranks are extremely elaborate, with most episodes focused entirely on him working to pull them off.
  • Punny Name: His last name is "Larkin" and he's a prankster.
  • Serious Business: For him, pranks are much more than cheeky tomfoolery, but rather an art form that he constantly seeks to outdo himself.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Jen, normally he is cheeky to her and they squabble.
  • Stock '90s Bad Boy: Much like its source material, Andy Larkin fits this trope to a T. He is a teenage prankster who is Brilliant, but Lazy, wears baggy jeans, occasionally wears sunglasses, and regularly defies authority and conformity. However, it is also deconstructed to a degree, as for all his "bad boy"-ness, Andy is also a Butt-Monkey who constantly gets caught and punished for his mischief, regardless of whether his pranks succeed or not, on top of also being disliked by most of the townspeople.
  • Time Stands Still: When he narrates.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Burgers.
  • The Trickster: He serves this role to East Gackle, turning the town upside-down through his pranks.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: He's a rebellious trickster who lives to infuriate his town with elaborate and wild pranks, being hated by pretty much all of East Gackle and constantly getting hit by Laser-Guided Karma for his actions, but his personality and antics are entirely Played for Laughs.
  • You Don't Want to Catch This: Fakes a made-up ailment in "Emergency Spew Relish".

    Daniel "Danny" Thaddeus Pickett
Voiced by: Bumper Robinson (Season 1), Daniel Brochu (Seasons 2 and 3)
Andy's best friend and ever-loyal sidekick. Danny is Andy's most reliable aide for every prank he pulls, providing emotional and moral support, any tools that could come in handy, and the occasional bit of snark.

    Lori Mackney
Voiced by: Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Season 1), Jaclyn Linetsky (Season 2), Eleanor Noble (Season 3)
The girl Andy has a crush on. She likes Andy and does find him quite charming, but she can't stand his obsession with pranking, seeing it as immature - something that often makes pulling practical jokes more challenging for Andy.
  • Adaptation Name Change: Her name was Lisa Mackney in Andy Griffiths' Just Series.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: She may be nice and very patient when it comes to Andy's behavior but despite this even she has moments where she calls him out when he goes too far with his pranks.
  • Birthday Episode: In "Gooey Chewies", she has her birthday.
  • Book Smart: Lori is a straight-A student.
  • Brainy Brunette: She has flowing dark hair and is an A student.
  • Cringe Comedy: She and Andy often get into awkward situations.
  • Love Interest: Andy has a crush on her. It's shown mostly in season 1 that she likes him in return but cannot commit while he's still a prankster.
  • Morality Pet: To Andy sometimes when he is prevented from doing something bad.
  • Nice Girl: Normally, she is very polite.
  • Playing Sick: In "Gooey Chewies", it turns out she was faking her cold.
  • Prefers Going Barefoot: Downplayed, but she wears open-toed flip-flops 99% of the time, while all the other characters opt for closed-toe footwear.
  • The Smart Guy: A very intelligent student.
  • Title Drop: She asks Danny "What's with Andy?" in "What's With Jean-Thomas?".
  • Trickster Girlfriend: Sometimes she gets back at Andy for his prankster tendencies and plays jokes on him:
    • In "Gooey Chewies", she fakes having a cold as a part of an April fools joke, and then pretends that she's mad at Andy for ruining her birthday party, while she actually isn't.
    • In "The Buck Stops Here", when Andy cheats to win the competition and get kissed by the Rodeo Queen (who he assumed was Lori), she deliberately doesn't tell him that the Queen is actually her ugly friend Hazel.
  • Tsundere: In general Lori is pretty sweet on Andy but he tends to provoke her with his incessant pranking. Lori all but says she'd likely date Andy for real if he ever stopped being a prankster.

    Alfred "Al" Larkin
Voiced by: Dee Bradley Baker (Season 1), Arthur Holden (Seasons 2 and 3)
Andy's dad, who works in a paper factory. Andy's pranks drive him just as batty as everyone else in East Gackle, but he does make the effort to try and keep Andy under control to some degree.

  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: In the flashback in "Weight to Go, Andy", his pants fall down.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Apparently he hates burgers.
  • Limited Wardrobe: Mainly wears brown pants, a yellow shirt and a tie.

  • The Prankster: Used to be a practical joker, but has outgrown it.
  • Team Dad: Literally. He is a grumpy parental figure and a dad.
  • Weight Woe: In "Weight to Go, Andy", he starts to worry about fatness because he was about to have an interview with a health nut.
  • You Are Grounded!: Along with his wife, he grounds Andy in "What's With Jean-Thomas?".

    Freda Larkin
Voiced by: Cathy Cavadini (Season 1), Susan Glover (Seasons 2 and 3)

  • Weight Woe: In "Weight to Go, Andy", she worries about her weight because she's afraid to be unpopular.

    Jen Larkin
Voiced by: Jenna von Oÿ; (Season 1), Jessica Kardos (Seasons 2 and 3)
Andy's big sister. Whereas Andy is seen as a problem child by everyone around him, Jen is seen as a model student, with her good grades, activism, and popularity as a cheerleader. Naturally, this makes her Andy's favorite target for pranks, which often do a good job of exposing her bossy, ill-tempered true self.

  • Little Miss Snarker: A snarky teenage girl.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Andy, her being the more antagonistic.
  • Sweet Tooth: Sometimes.
  • Tsundere: Typically in harsh tsun mode, but Craig brings out the sweet in her when she tries to woo him. Of course since Craig is also a Dumb Jock, he tends to earn Jen's ire whenever he does something she doesn't like.
  • Weight Woe: Frequently, most notably in "Weight to Go, Andy", she worries about being fat.
  • You Are Fat: In "Weight to Go, Andy", when Andy says he's on a roll, she says "looks like the roll is on you. Roll of fat, that is."

  • Baby Talk: They sometimes tease Andy by talking to him in baby talk.
  • The Bully: Their main trait is their bullyish nature.
  • Butt-Monkey: They're Andy's most common targets when it comes to his pranks.
  • Catchphrase: Leech: "Yeah, like, y'know..."

  • The Rival: To Andy.
  • Those Two Guys: Always seen walking around together.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Best friends, but can sometimes be mean to each other.
  • You Are Fat: In "Weight to Go, Andy", they say that they had never seen so much "puppy fat" and had better leave before "Larkin starts barkin'". Danny thought this was Actually Pretty Funny, which made Andy cross.

  • Brainy Brunette: Has dark hair and is a science nerd.
  • Butt-Monkey: One of the most unluckiest characters in the show due to being a cowardly nerd who often gets bullied or pranked.
  • Nice Guy: One of the more nicer characters in the show despite his Butt-Monkey status.
  • Shrinking Violet: Is a bit shy at times.
  • The Smart Guy: For being nerd, he has good notes and he is intelligent. However, he is also naive.

    Craig Bennet
Voiced by: Carlos Alazraqui (Season 1), Matt Holland (Seasons 2 and 3)
