Characters in The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife

A gentlemanly invisible man. He works as a private detective. He takes an interest in his blind employee Shizuka and asks her to date him.

  • Accidental Pervert: When he visits Shizuka's apartment, he sees her panties that she accidentally dropped in the floor, but tries to pretend he didn't notice.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Kiriguro calls him "Aki"
  • Benevolent Boss: He treats all of his employees kindly and has a very friendly relationship with them, such as taking them on a camping trip with him.
  • The Blank: Tounome's face is impossible to read because his head is invisible. He supplemented this by being able to express himself through his voice and his choice in fashion.
  • City Mouse: He was originally raised in the city and thus he never quite fit into the life of the countryside where the invisible people's village is located. Especially since everyone there prefers being invisible all the time and his senses aren't well-adjusted to it.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Jarashi notices that Tounome has a very well-built body when his shirt gets wet at the river, although it's usually hard to notice when he's wearing suits.
  • Fictional Disability: Tounome wasn't raised in the village of invisible people and because of this, he was unable to develop his organ that can detect other invisible people. When he was a kid, he came to his parents' hometown and was unable to see and differentiate the invisible villagers. Fortunately, he met Kiriguro, who helped and inspired him to wear clothes to express himself.
  • The First Cut Is the Deepest: Tounome once had an ex-girlfriend before Shizuka. When they were about to have sex with each other, his ex realized how scary it was being intimate and being touched by an invisible person was and soon called it off. Since then, he's been afraid of getting intimate with another person until Shizuka came along.
  • Has a Type: Shizuka and his previous girlfriend have chestnut hair.
  • Invisibility: He can switch between only having his clothes be visible and being fully invisible.
  • Invisible Main Character: He's an Invisible man and the main focus of the series is his romance with a blind woman.
  • A Lizard Named "Liz": Tounome's surname is a play on the Japanese word for invisible (Tōmei).
  • Mr. Fanservice: While he is invisible, this does not exempt him from having fanservice scenes, which give the viewers a lot of imagination on how hot he is. He looks good in suits, and the anime gives the viewers a full shot of his ass when he tries to kiss Shizuka on her bed.
  • Nice Guy: He's polite, kind and affable to everyone.
  • Not So Above It All: While he's respectable to the people he encountered, he does get embarrassed in awkward situations, such as meeting Shizuka's parents. He also finds Shizuka's swimwear cute.
  • One Head Taller: Shizuka reaches his shoulders. Not that we can see his head, though.
  • Our Nudity Is Different: Tounome believes that him being shirtless is as embarrassing as being fully naked because people can see the inside of his pants. Others don't get it because he's invisible, so all they see is floating clothes.
  • Paralyzing Fear of Sexuality: He developed a fear of sexual intimacy after his previous girlfriend dumped him in the middle of sex because trying to be intimate with an invisible man made her realize how scary it is to be touched by someone she couldn't see.
  • Private Detective: He has his own detective agency and takes advantage of his invisibility to do investigations.
  • Sexy Soaked Shirt: He gets a wet t-shirt scene when he’s out camping and his wet shirt clings to his torso enough to show off the outline of his body.
  • Trauma Button: Tounome is afraid of the dark because when he was a kid, he got lost in the forest at nighttime during his school camping trip. What's worse is that none of his classmates looked for him, and when he arrived at the campsite alone, he realized no one noticed him, much to his grief. The incident traumatized him so thoroughly to this day that sudden total darkness can send him into a panic attack.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He’s terrified of dark places because of getting lost in the woods at night on a camping trip with his class when he was a kid.

  • Blind People Wear Sunglasses: She usually doesn't, but she does put on sunglasses during the agency's camping trip.
  • Crush Blush: She tends to blush a lot whenever she and Tounome are together.
  • Disability Immunity: As a blind woman, Tounome's invisibility doesn't work on her. Shizuka can detect Tounome's presence since she's already a master of detecting people without sight.
  • Endearingly Dorky: She's a sweet and polite woman, but whenever she's with Tounome, she flusters and squees like a love-stricken teenage girl. She even imagines some unusual scenarios on how to handle Tounome whenever they're alone.
  • Eyes Always Shut: She never opens her eyes due to her blindness.
  • I Am Not Pretty: Since she's blind, she doesn't know how her face looks like from the perspective of others. When she asks Akira for a kiss, Akira turns it down, causing Shizuka to think that she's ugly. Fortunately, Akira explains to her that he, too, is uncertain about how to reciprocate their relationship, and Shizuka takes the initiative by kissing him.
  • Insecure Love Interest: Shizuka sometimes feels she's not good enough to be Akira's girlfriend and usually worries about how to be more affectionate.
  • Inspirationally Disadvantaged: Shizuka is well-respected by the three other people that work in the Tounome Detective Agency and is so proficient at her job that she catches when Jarashi puts snacks on the company budget when she shouldn't have. She also lives alone and is quite self-sufficient, being able to cook by herself among other things. She revealed that at 11 years old, she developed a knack for figuring out and distinguishing the people around her, which makes things easier for her. This makes her the ideal person for Akira.
  • Nice Girl: She's a very sweet and polite young woman.
  • Office Lady: She works at the office of Tounome's detective agency.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With Futa. She's kind and friendly, while Futa is aloof and aggressive.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She loves Tounome because of his kind and considerate personality.

  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The Girly Girl to Jarashi's Tomboy. Shizuka is a delicate and feminine human woman, while Jarashi is a tough-as-nails beastwoman.
  • Totally Trusting Love Interest: When her brother Futa assumes that Akira is cheating on her, Shizuka reminds him that Akira is doing detective work. Later on, Futa is ultimately proven wrong after it's revealed that Akira is indeed helping a client reunite with her brother. This shows that Shizuka completely trusts Akira being good and faithful to her.
  • Understanding Boyfriend: Gender-Inverted in her dynamic with Tounome. She knows Tounome is invisible, but she's blind so she doesn't perceive him any differently from a normal person. She also supports him through his fear of dark places and insecurities about intimacy due to his ex-girlfriend dumping him because his invisible body scared her during sex.

Daichi Kikira

Voiced by: Masaya Fukunishi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daichi_kikira.png

A human investigator in charge of information gathering at the agency.

  • Being Personal Isn't Professional: If Kousuke didn't insist on Daichi telling his office about their relationship, Daichi would have kept his personal life and work life separate. He even gets irritated when Shizuka and Akira ask him for advice, which has no connection to work.
  • Big Beautiful Man: Downplayed. He let himself go and mostly does computer work. But Kousuke still loves him while the other members of his office don't care much.
  • But Not Too Gay: While he and Kousuke are in a relationship, they aren't shown being physically intimate with each other. Justified; his relationship with Kousuke is a Beta Couple to Shizuka and Akira, and Daichi prefers to keep his home life to himself.

  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He has a gruff attitude, but is a good guy who cares about others.

  • Opposites Attract: He's grumpy and standoffish while his partner Kousuke is cheerful and friendly.
  • Perpetual Frowner: He always looks either bored or vaguely annoyed. He also very rarely smiles.
  • The Smart Guy: He's the brains of the agency and is in charge of analyzing data.
  • Straight Gay: He does not display any campy and flamboyant gay traits. None of the audience would have known about his orientation if it wasn't revealed that he and Kousuke are living together.
  • Tsundere: He acts this way towards his boyfriend Kousuke. He does love him, but doesn't like to show it much in public and gets angry when Kousuke tries talking about their personal relationship in his workplace. One flashback also shows him blushing when Kousuke held his hand at the bus and despite looking annoyed, he still kept holding his hand all the way back.
