Main Characters

A student from Kuonji High School with a talent for mathematics, Kenji works part-time as a moderator in internet Metaverse Oz. His crush Natsuki invites him to her great-grandmother's nintieth birthday, where she introduces him to her family as her fiance. His talent for cracking codes and equations plays a role in the AI Love Machine's invasion of the internet. His online avatar resembles him in appearance, but sports a pair of mouse ears.
- Alliterative Name: Kenji Koiso.
- Animal Motifs: Kenji's guest avatar on the Jinnouchi home phone is a cartooney squirrel.
- Badass Adorable: His second Avatar is a cute, chubby squirrel, which he uses to math duel Love Machine.
- Badass Bookworm: Kenji hacks and cracks multiple codes with two-hundred plus numbers to solve.
- Badass Pacifist: Kenji doesn't participate in any physical violence throughout the film, either in real life or in Oz. Instead, he uses his incredible math skills to stop Love Machine.
- Becoming the Mask: After posing as Natsuki's boyfriend/fiance and getting exposed the next day, Kenji ends up with Natsuki by the end of the film.
- Big Good: Takes over as leader of the good guys after Sakae dies.
- Blue with Shock: When finds out the equation he cracked was Oz's encryption code.
- Chekhov's Skill: His mathematical genius helps gain access to the center of Oz so Kazuma can take out Love Machine.
- Determinator: No matter how bleak the situation is, he always solves mathematical problems to help the Jinnouchis."You can't solve an equation by giving up."
- Good with Numbers: Nearly won a national maths competition. His skills come to help save the world by solving a 2056-bit encryption in his head and typing while he solves it.
- Ink-Suit Actor: He greatly resembles his Japanese actor Ryunosuke Kamiki as well as his English one, Michael Sinterniklaas.
- Intertwined Fingers: Holds hands with Natsuki to help her deal with Sakae's death.
- Missing Mom: See Parental Abandonment.
- Nice Guy: Kenji is shown to be friendly, polite, and even-tempered and never loses his temper with any of the Jinnouchi family.
- Nosebleed: Occurs due to the mental stress of trying to solve a very long encryption code and the more traditional take occurs when Natsuki kisses him in the film's finale.
- Parental Abandonment: He mentions his parents work difficult jobs and have no time for him. He expresses happiness that he got to spend time with a proper family even if it wasn't his own.
- Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: With Natsuki. In this case computer savvy and "silly goose" antics.
- Smooch of Victory: Natsuki gives Kenji one at the end of the film after he saves the day.
- Squishy Wizard: He's a Non-Action Guy as far as the cyber war goes, but he's enough of a math genius to solve an extremely complex, government-level encryption in his head in order to stop Love Machine's final attack.
- Teen Genius: A mathematical genius and possibly good with computers, given his job at Oz.
- Took a Level in Badass: Achieves this by spending all night solving Oz's 256 bit encryption key using pencil and paper to solving it in minutes using one sheet of paper and finally, to solving it in his head in a matter of seconds.
- Unlucky Everydude: He's a typical student and teenage boy who gets pulled into both a family drama and a cyber war. Nothing goes right for him this entire weekend (until the end).

The 13-year old cousin of Natsuki Shinohara and the son of Kiyomi Ikezawa, Kazuma is a quiet kid who spends his time playing online gaming as the popular avatar King Kazma.
- Ambiguously Brown: Kazuma is quite dark-skinned compared to the rest of the cast, including his own pale-skinned parents. He's also something of a Hikikomori, so his skin likely isn't just tan, which adds to the confusion.
- All of the Other Reindeer: Implied for Kazuma when his mother comments on he was viewed as an outsider during his childhood. In contrast to King Kazma, who is one of the most popular avatars on Oz.
- Animal Motifs: Rabbits, given his avatar is a humanoid-like rabbit.
- Badass Adorable: A shy teenager who plays online as a street fighter rabbit and knows martial arts in real life.
- Bare-Fisted Monk: King Kazma fights with bare-handed martial arts.
- Barefoot Cartoon Animal: King Kazma, who appears as an anthropomorphic rabbit. His upgrade comes with no shoes, making him a more effective fighter.
- Big Brother Instinct: Expresses disinterest in gaining a little sister but still comes to be protective of his mother and unborn sibling.
- Breakout Character: Along with his avatar King Kazma, they gained his own spin-off manga.
- Chekhov's Gunman: As the creator of King Kazma, who is seen in the opening credits fighting other avatars and is even advertised on trains. He repeatedly fights Love Machine cyber-physically and is responsible for giving it the Falcon Punch of a lifetime.
- Deep-Immersion Gaming: Very dedicated to his games, and feels and acts like he is personally fighting Love Machine.
- Deuteragonist: To Kenji's protagonist and Natsuki's tritagonist.
- Funny Animal: King Kazma is a bipedal rabbit.
- Goggles Do Nothing: King Kazma wears goggles as an accessory, but then wears them around his neck in the upgrade.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: Good, in the case of King Kazma. He gains a scar from forehead to jaw over one eye after being thrown into the cloud barrier surrounding OZ by Love Machine.
- Headphones Equal Isolation: Kenji first meets Kazuma while he wears these; outsider, you know?
- Hikikomori: Rarely seen out of his room for a portion of the film.
- Important Haircut: He gives his avatar, King Kazma, a blond version of his own haircut when he decides to get serious and challenge Love Machine to a rematch.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Kazuma is withdrawn and snarky, but he's ultimately a good kid.
- Kung-Fu Kid: Taught Shaolin by Mansuke in martial arts as a means of protecting himself from school bullies, which he applies to King Kazma.
- Momma's Boy: Kazuma seems quite close to his mother, although she is the only parent he is seen with until his father arrives in the finale.
- Not So Stoic: Remains The Stoic most of the time, but freaks out when Shota fries the supercomputer, and again when Love Machine assimilates King Kazma, causing him to break down in tears.
- Pre-Mortem One-Liner: He yells "That's enough!" before he kills Love Machine for good.
- The Quiet One: The quietest of the Jinnouchi family.
- Rapid-Fire Typing: Pretty good at it when gaming. Martial arts are quick, after all.
- Red Is Heroic: King Kazuma wears red gloves and a red vest.
- Righteous Rabbit: Serves as the main muscle to fight Love Machine.
- The Stoic: When everyone else is rejoicing he barely smiles when they manage to get most of the accounts back from Love Machine. Shown to be Not So Stoic a few scenes before because he feels he failed to protect his mother and unborn sister.
- Teen Genius: Knows a fair deal about computers and Oz.

The daughter of Kazuo and Yukiko Shinohara, Natsuki is a close friend to Kenji, who he has a crush on. She invites him to celebrate her great-grandmother Sakae's ninetieth birthday and forces him to pretend they are dating. Has a talent for hanafuda games, and has a crush on her uncle Wabisuke. Her online avatar resembles her but has features of a dog or doe.
- Adaptational Badass: In the manga adaptation, she is shown to practice kendo.
- All Girls Want Bad Boys: She had a huge crush on Wabisuke. She gets over it and falls in love with Kenji instead.
- Animal Motifs: Dogs, given her Avatar is basically a dog version of herself.
- Badass Adorable: As represented by her avatar playing a hanafuda game with the world at stake.
- Chekhov's Skill: Her hanafuda skills are essential in defeating Love Machine.
- Cool Big Sis: Gives off these vibes towards her younger cousins. She’s very patient and is excited to see them when they first show.
- Dog Face: Her avatar is one.
- Dude Magnet: Both Kenji and Takashi have crushes on her.
- Heroes Love Dogs: Natsuki's avatar is a Dog Face version of her. Also counts as a Heroic Dog.
- Heroic BSoD: Clearly has one when Sakae dies.
- Hime Cut: Her avatar has one to fit with the strong priestess vibes.
- Humanoid Female Animal: Her avatar is noticeably more humanoid than any other in the movie, bar perhaps Love Machine’s second form.
- Ink-Suit Actor: Like Kenji, she resembles her actresses Nanami Sakuraba and Brina Palencia.
- Intertwined Fingers: Asks Kenji to hold hands with her to help her deal with Sakae's death.
- Light Is Good: Natuski's upgraded avatar gives her the appearance of a winged, anthropomorphic priestess dressed in white.
- Meaningful Name: "Natsu" means "summer".
- Mix-and-Match Critters: Downplayed; her avatar’s final form has traits of dogs and peacocks but is largely humanoid.
- Modesty Towel: Runs into Kenji during his first day at Sakae's house and invokes this trope.
- Morality Pet: Wabisuke is quite fond of Natsuki and actually listens to her.
- Mundane Made Awesome: Natsuki's hanafuda match with Love Machine online involving her whole family, which is then boosted when a third of the internet's users join her in the game and she receives an avatar upgrade from Oz's guardians.
- Nice Girl: Natsuki is sweet and polite girl, with a deep love for her family. And eventually, Kenji.
- Peacock Girl: Gains wings and a peacock tail when her avatar is upgraded.
- Precocious Crush: On Wabisuke, her uncle, when she was younger.
- Rule of Cool: Natsuki's avatar upgrade is purely cosmetic (though there is a theory that it influences the RNG through a "luck" stat).
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Natsuki ultimately falls in love with Kenji after witnessing his determination, courage, and leadership in protecting the family and defeating Love Machine.
- Sundress of Innocence: A Nice Girl and the Cool Big Sis to her many, many cousins. She asks Kenji to pretend to be her fiance because she wants to show her aged grandmother that she's planning for the future before the old woman passes. Once they're at the Shinohara household, Natsuki is seen wearing a white sundress and she falls in love with Kenji for real when he both helps comfort her over her grandmother's death and then takes the initiative to destroy the rogue AI that contributed to the elderly woman's death, Natsuki and Kenji gently intertwining fingers as they sit on the porch together while she vents her sorrows.
Jinnouchi Family

Natsuki's extended family who come together to celebrate Sakae's 90th birthday, but end up playing a role in battling Love Machine. The family were once rich and a powerful clan in the 17th Century, but Sakae's husband lost it all leaving them with only a Big Fancy House. However, most of the family members work in handy jobs (doctor, IT technician, sailor, cop, JGSDF member).
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: They have their moments. Mansuke and Mansaku (Sakae's sons) both ask Kenji if he and Natsuki have done it. Then the whole family forces Kenji and Natsuki to kiss in the finale.
- Also of note is when three of Natsuki's aunts grill her after they discover her scheme and they realize that the CV she gave Kenji is pretty much Wabisuke's CV, leading them to remember a few events from her childhood that directly point to her crush on her uncle. Natsuki then bursts into hysterical tears and begs them to stop and forget everything!
- Apron Matron: Mariko, the eldest and only daughter of Sakae's three biological kids. While she isn’t as fierce as Sakae herself, she still manages to help with Love Machine.
- Badass Family: Natch. They will stop at nothing to halt Love Machine. Mansuke is very proud of the achievements of the clan's ancestors, fighting off seven-thousand soldiers loyal to the Tokugawa shogunate. Sakae has samurai armour and a number of weapons on display in her house. Most members of the family have badass skills or work in jobs in connection to Japan's society.
- Big Brother Instinct: Shota shows a lot of this towards his young cousin, Natsuki, when he show suspicion of her supposed boyfriend. It is by way of My Sister Is Off-Limits.
- Big Fancy House: A large ancestral home on the outskirts of Ueda, though it is all that is left of the Jinnouchi fortune.
- Boyish Short Hair: Nana has this.
- Bratty Half-Pint: The younger kids, who end up costing Kazuma his first fight against Love Machine by jumping on him and then saying "you got hit!" in an annoying tone. Then (in the manga at least) they have the nerve to say "Aw, you got hit!" Yeah, that tends to happen when you're distracting him.
- Butt-Monkey: Shota is treated like a nuisance throughout the film, getting mocked and hit by the others constantly.
- Canine Companion: The family is close to Granny Sakae's dog, Hayate, and they're even more so, after her death.
- Chekhov's Skill: Every member of the family's skills or occupations come into use in some shape or form during the film.
- Children Are Innocent: The younger members of the family, who maintain an innocent outlook on things in the film even when they are at their worst.Kana: What's a war? (To Granny Sakae)
- Chubby Mama, Skinny Papa: Yumi and Katsuhiko. Justified Trope on Katsuhiko’s end as he has a job that involves a lot of moving.
- The Clan: They still consider themselves one three-hundred years on even though they only own one house.
- Cool Old Guy: Mansuke, who taught his reclusive gaming grandson martial arts to protect him from bullies.
- Cool Old Lady: Mariko, Sakae's daughter, who plays her part by bringing the family together for a meal.
- Determinator: The whole family refuses to lose even after Sakae's death.
- Evil-Detecting Dog:
- The family dog Hayate can sense the satellite approaching when it is in orbit.
- The first time we see Wabisuke, he's petting the dog and asking if he's forgotten him. It's a hint that in spite of his bastard demeanour and strained relationship with grandma, he's not so bad after all.
- It also whines when Shouta takes Kenji away, a hint that Kenji is not as bad as the family thinks.
- Family Business: Averted. Mansaku is a doctor, but his three sons all work for the fire department.
- Family Theme Naming:
- The endings of Mansaku's sons' end with "hiko".
- Katsuhiko carried on this tradition with the endings of his sons' names being "hei".
- Fat and Skinny: A family version. Tasuke (father) is the Fat and Shota (son) is the Skinny.
- Fiery Redhead: Naomi's hair has a red tint to it. . As for personality, Naomi plays with it: at first, she can be calm, but the next second she's more wild.
- Flower Motifs: Morning glories in particular hold special sentimental value to Sakae. They were in bloom the day she met and took in Wabisuke.
- The Four Loves: Storge (familial love) at its fullest. Clan power and unity is the key to fighting Love Machine.
- Hot-Blooded: Shouta is regularly shouting about something or running somewhere. His relatives basically tell him to chill.
- Impoverished Patrician: The Jinnouchis have graves going back to the Muromochi period (late 14th to early 16th century), and their ancestors became very rich trading silk. Although Sakae's husband frittered it all away, she does still have a lot of sway and pull all over Japan.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Shota acts like a jerk most of the time but he is a very loving guy. He is the first member of the family to snap Kenji out of his funk and stop Love Machine: "It's like math, remember?! You can do this!"
- Like Father, Like Son: Kunihiko lampshades this towards Katsuhiko about his son, Ryohei.
- Missing Mom: The mothers that are missing from the entire film:
- Shota's mom (the wife of Tasuke).
- The mother of Mansaku's three sons.
- Wabisuke's mom (the woman who had an affair with Granny Sakae's husband).
- Multigenerational Household: Subverted. Only Sakae lives in the ancestral home, and everyone else comes to visit.
- My Sister Is Off-Limits: Shota objects to Kenji and Natsuki's "relationship" on principle alone. He's actually Natsuki's cousin.
- Old Maid: Mansuke lampshades this towards his daughter, Naomi and his niece, Rika, by calling them "the spinster club".
- Old Master: Mansuke (Kazuma's grandfather) taught Kazuma (and thus King Kazma) everything he knows about martial arts, attacked Love Machine (by this time an extremely strong martial arts master) by himself to buy Kazma time to recover, and he has a NINJA SQUID for an avatar. He does it all on a Nintendo DS!
- Passionate Sports Girl: Yumi is a big supporter of her son Ryohei who appears in an ongoing baseball tournament on TV.
- Police Are Useless: Shota is a cop but not a very competent one because he is too impetuous.
- Precocious Crush: Uncle Wabisuke was Niece Natsuki's "first love."
- The Power of Family: A major theme of the film. They all have their quirks as well as their disagreements like any family. But when the situation with the A.I Love Machine begins to escalate to the point it becomes personal when the family's matriarch, Sakae, is inadvertently killed by the A.I keeping her heart monitor from signaling her heart failure, the family slowly starts to come together to help bring it down. Bonus points for including the film's main character, Kenji, a friend to family member, Natsuki, as much of a factor as the rest of the family to the point by film's end the consider him one of their own. Likewise poignant with Love Machine's creator, Wabisuke, who was considered a bastard child within the family and acts like a bad egg, but he loved his grandmother all same that his actions in making the A.I were to actually try to help her despite the family thinking he was doing it for selfish purposes and instantly helps the family destroy the A.I after being informed of Sakae's death. Even when they have a row in the middle of the film, it's very clear Sakae still cares for him and pleads with the family in her final letter not to push him away.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: Shota may have not liked Kenji at first, but he only arrested him because he thought (along with Kenji and others) that the teen did something illegal. When there was evidence to disprove the accusation, Shota lets him go.
- Red Oni, Blue Oni: Tasuke and Shota in a father-son take on the trope because the latter is more Hot-Blooded and less rational than the former.
- Shipper on Deck: The whole family for Kenji and Natsuki at the end of the film. Two of them literally push the bashful couple together and say they should be engaged for real.
- Smart People Wear Glasses: Tasuke, who runs an electronics store and is an expert when it comes to computers, wears glasses.
- Smoking Is Cool: Naomi is seen smoking when talking to the other female Jinnouchi members.
- Strong Family Resemblance:
- Nana's daughter, Kana could be the "mini Nana".
- Mansaku's sons could be confused to be triplets. There are some small, physical differences to tell them apart- Kunihiko (slightly brownish hair), Katsuhiko (combed hair), and Yorihiko (hair is slicked to the left side).

The 89-year old matriarch of the Jinnouchi family, Sakae is about to turn 90 and her extended family come from far and wide to celebrate. One unflappable Cool Old Lady, Sakae puts family first and is a very loving grandma.
- Big Good: An absolute gem of this trope. Believes strongly in a tight family, cares for others, and calls up old friends and authority figures to help get Japan's systems back up and running while encouraging them to do their best.
- Cool Old Lady: One of the best ever. She may be turning 90, but she keeps her cool throughout the chaos going on thanks to Love Machine, loves her family, rallies her friends to help others, and can even handle a heavy bladed naginata against Wabisuke.
- Determinator: Won't let Japan just bend over backwards to a systems failure and manages to get the whole of Japan's services up and running using a dial up phone.
- Excellent Judge of Character: It is implied that no one marries into the family without her approval because of this. When she meets Kenji, she recognizes that he has a good heart and approves of him even after it comes out that him dating her granddaughter was a lie and proof comes out that he might have been responsible for unleashing Love Machine. She did not hold it against Wabisuke that he was the product of her husband's affair and didn't hold a grudge when he ran off with a chunk of the family's fortune until it comes out that he was the one that create Love Machine and endangered millions of lives selling it to the US military.
- Flower Motifs: Morning glories hold sentimental value for Sakae, namely because of when she first met and adopted Wabisuke.
- Genre Savvy: She clearly sees through the fake fiancé ruse, and just as clearly realizes how that kind of thing usually ends.
- Good Parents: Sakae raised her three biological children, Mariko, Mansaku and Mansuke, and they all turned out great. She took an immediate shine to Wabisuke as a boy and adopted him on the spot, even if he was proof of her husband's infidelity. Despite feelings of not belonging in the family, Wabisuke clearly loved Sakae very much.
- Ink-Suit Actor: Her facial features resemble a white-haired version of her Japanese voice actress, Sumiko Fuji.
- I Was Quite a Looker: Not explicitly stated, but we have a good look at a photo of her when she was young as she rallies the entire nation of Japan.
- Lady of War: Takes no prisoners if angered, threatening Wabisuke with a naginata.
- Mama Bear: To her family, particularly Wabisuke. One of the first things she asks if is if he has eaten.
- Mundane Made Awesome: Her use of her old rotary dial phone to get her entire country running during a crisis.
- Never Mess with Granny: Particularly when it comes to family because she has a naginata.
- Parental Substitute: She was a surrogate mother figure to Wabisuke, who was a product of his father's affair.
- Rousing Speech: Pretty good at this, bringing order back to the nation by encouraging everyone in her address book to lend a hand. Happens again in the form of her farewell message and the results are miraculous due to the way it finally unites the family- Natsuki convinces the prodigal son to come home, the men put aside the war long enough to have a meal and mourn their loss with everyone else, and the women are finally convinced to help fight the war against the virus.
- Silk Hiding Steel: When Sakae tells politicians and CEOs to put their big boy pants on and get stuff done, she is very polite and encouraging. She might have "raised a little hell" in the process, but she wouldn't know anything about that.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: Sakae is an old-school Japanese lady in a kimono. In addition to the polite "hell raising" scene, she makes sure her family stays fed and wields a naginata.

The Black Sheep of the Jinnouchi family. Wabisuke is the illegitimate son of Sakae's late husband Tokue whom she adopted. Ten years ago, he stole a large amount of the family's money to make it in America. He mysteriously returns to the family on the eve of Sakae's 90th birthday.
- Astonishingly Appropriate Appearance: He wears a black shirt and has curly hair, which is rather fitting for a black sheep.
- The Atoner: Comes back to stop Love Machine after Sakae dies, clearly driven by guilt.
- Black Sheep: Wabisuke is the illegitimate child of Sakae's husband, and ran off with much of the family's money to make it big in America. His return is unexpected and unwanted by everyone but Natsuki and Sakae.
- Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Well, calling him evil would be a huge exaggeration, but still, he greatly misestimated Sakae's reaction when he thought that she would be proud of him for winning money to bring back the family's glory days thanks to the conception of a dangerous AI that endangered a lot of people's lives.
- Evil Uncle: In the eyes of the Jinnouchis save Natsuki, he is a scoundrel (though, obviously, he is not an "uncle" to some of them).
- Freudian Excuse: Sells off his portion of grandpa Tokue's inheritance in order to fund his computer science education in America. His family believes he did it selfishly but it was actually so he could land a contract with the US military to bring wealth back to his family. Self-conscious about his bastard origins, he was just looking for a So Proud of You moment from his adoptive mother Sakae. Plus, the manga hints that even during his childhood some members of the Jinnouchi family had a hard time accepting him because of his origins, which fueled his desire to prove himself.
- Happily Adopted: Zigzagged; Sakae took him in as her own without question, but Wabisuke went unwanted by the rest of the family because of his illegitimacy. A desire to finally be accepted is what drives his actions.
- Heel Realization: Wabisuke comes to realize his culpability in Love Machine's rampage when he learns of Sakae's death.
- Heroic Bastard: The heroic part doesn't come until the final act, but he is definitely an illegitimate child.
- Hidden Heart of Gold: He wanted to use the money he gained while creating Love Machine to bring back the glory days of the family.
- Ink-Suit Actor: He looks a lot like his actor Ayumu Saito.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He may be openly rude towards most of the family save Natsuki, but he does care about them, especially Sakae even after she dies.
- Karma Houdini: Sure, he isn't responsible for the government releasing Love Machine on Oz but because he developed it, he almost caused The End of the World. In the ending, he is just mentioned in the news as the man who developed Love Machine, and is supposedly living a normal life. Presumably, he's let off the hook for playing a role in defeating Love Machine.
- Meaningful Name: Wabisuke literally means, "the penitent one." His entire character arc is paying back the family and saving them despite his mistakes.
- Never My Fault: Insists that the American government is at fault for Love Machine's attack on Oz because they chose to test it out there, regardless of the fact that he designed the AI. At least, until he learns it indirectly killed Sakae.
- Not Evil, Just Misunderstood: He created Love Machine, a volatile AI that is basically a weapon of mass destruction, solely for the money. Not money for himself, but so he could pay back the money he took from the family with interest and restoring their fortune.
- Practically Different Generations: Is the half brother of Mansuke, Mansaku, and Mariko but is implied to be between the ages of their children and Natsuki.
- The Reveal: He created Love Machine.
- Sour Outside, Sad Inside: That aloof, smarmy attitude is just a mask to hide how much growing up rejected by his family has hurt.
- Token Evil Teammate: Downplayed. He's not evil but is the most morally ambiguous of his family.
- Took a Level in Kindness: Helps his family defeat Love Machine and confesses to his crimes of inventing the A.I.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: His creation of Love Machine ends up indirectly causing Sakae's death. He thought he was helping his family at the time.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: As the illegitimate child of her husband, Wabisuke feels this way and wants to make Sakae proud. Everything he did was for Sakae and to make the family prosperous again.
- What the Hell, Hero?: The family are livid when he reveals he created Love Machine, particularly Sakae, who comes at him with a naginata.
Allies

Kenji's school friend and fellow Oz moderator. His avatar is a monkey with a large pixelated head.
- Deadpan Snarker: He responds to learning his friend is accused of being the terrorist responsible for the chaos in Oz in a dry tone when Kenji tries contacting him for help. Explicitly, "please tell me you didn't break the internet..."
- Mission Control: Acts as this for Kenji, coordinating the Jinnouchi counterattack on Love Machine from his dorm room.
- Nerd Glasses: He's so computer-nerdy that his glasses also appear on his avatar.
- Non-Standard Character Design: His avatar, which appears as a monkey with a huge pixelated spectacled head — which doesn't need a body half the time.
- Rock–Paper–Scissors: He used this with Kenji on who would go with Natsuki. He lost.
- Shipper on Deck: He urges Kenji to act on his feelings for Natsuki several times.
- Visual Pun: His avatar reflects his role as a "Code Monkey".
- Voice with an Internet Connection: Since he isn't physically with the rest of the cast most interactions with him need to be either on the phone or through Oz.
Antagonists

- Voiced by: N/A
The Big Bad of the film. An AI created by Wabisuke, Love Machine is released on Oz by the American government as an experiment, and begins causing havoc online and in Japan's systems. It has an ability to assimilate other Oz avatars and change its appearance.
- A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Love Machine is a privately created AI who escapes from the army and starts a war with the real world. Then this is subverted in that it was released intentionally, and was following its programming the entire time.
- The Assimilator: Can absorb the avatars and accounts of other Oz users, becoming stronger and altering his appearance.
- Big Bad: As the film's main antagonist, the AI is responsible for wreaking havoc online and is trying to throw the world into chaos for his amusement.
- Blood Knight: Enjoys games and competition, taking on any challenger.
- Captain Ersatz: Of Diaboromon; a self-evolving Mon-like Computer Virus from Cyberspace that wreaks havoc on the real world through the internet, growing more powerful after ever attempt to destroy it until it eventually becomes a nigh-unstoppable Body of Bodies. By the end, it tries Cutting the Knot by trying to kill the humans trying to stop it (Diaboromon with nuclear missiles, Love machine with a satellite).
- Card-Carrying Villain: Lampshaded: "Has bad guy written all over him." Probably a bit of self-awareness on his programmer's part. Programmed to cause trouble, and although it thinks it is just playing games, it is a sore loser.
- The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: In-universe example. Love Machine will follow the game rules until it loses, then will resort to cheating.
- Computer Virus: Love Machine is a malignant piece of malware designed to mess with whatever system it's in, treating whatever software it finds as game pieces. It manifests after hacking Kenji's account and stealing his avatar, going on to do the same with every other avatar in OZ before it really starts causing problems.
- Cute as a Bouncing Betty: An experimental US cyberweapon nicknamed "Love Machine" and decorated with hearts. As the trope page shows, this whimsicality is very much Truth in Television.
- Dark Is Evil: His enormous multi-avatar form is huge and black, but comes with red eyes and mouth. Yet it still manages to invoke Light Is Not Good, with the angelic wings that form OZ's main building on its back, and the Deva Halo Rings re-appearing when it absorbs King Kazma
- Evil Is Petty: Love Machine tends to cause havoc for sheer amusement, treating every OZ account as a plaything and causing chaos in the real world by messing with accounts used for essential services (such as causing traffic jams, creating false alarms with emergency services, shutting off heart monitors, and even dropping satellites onto nuclear power plants), and is also willing to cheat and Rage Quit if it's losing games against someone else. This trope is what makes Love Machine so dangerous and terrifying, because it's completely indiscriminate in its actions. Whether it's causing minor inconveniences or endangering lives, everything is just one sick and twisted game to it.
- For the Evulz: It's ruthless and willing to cause violence for his own amusement to the point that it sends the Arawashi down to kill the Jinnouchi family.
- Hair-Raising Hare: After absorbing King Kazma, Love Machine sprouts huge rabbit ears. It doesn't make it any less scary at all.
- It Amused Me: Love Machine doesn't cause destruction out of malice but rather because it sees everything as a game and was programmed to do so.
- Killer Rabbit: Its an incredibly destructive AI named Love Machine, puts heart symbols on whatever form its using, and first appears using the protagonist's tiny Mickey Mouse inspired avatar. While it does get more fearsome looking avatars later on in the movie the trope still shows up when absorbing King Kazma makes this a bit more literal.
- Light Is Not Good: Its second avatar invokes this trope, with a Deva-like appearance and a golden halo (which he uses to store hijacked avatars) floating behind him. Seen in full horrific detail when he consumes King Kazma—the halo, now a repository for half a billion avatars, emits a light so blinding it negates the ambient lighting of OZ itself.
- Meaningful Name:
- Wabisuke intended to use it to make Sakae proud of him, and prove he's worthy of her love.
- Ironically, despite the song's lyrics, Love Machine doesn't work for anyone but itself. In fact, since it tries to hijack everyone's accounts, it could be said that it wants you to work for nobody but him.
- The word "Love" appearing in regards to a AI is also common pun in Japanese since in their word for it is "Ai".
- The fact that "Love Machine" sounds like the online handle of someone who has had no experience with love... which as an AI, is accurate.
- The fact that, as a hacking AI, its job is to "screw your computer hard and deep".
- Mocky Mouse: Its first form resembles this due to being a stolen avatar.
- More Teeth than the Osmond Family: Comes with a Slasher Smile that can spread to other avatars.
- My Kung-Fu Is Stronger Than Yours: Transforms to become stronger than King Kazma and beat him.
- One-Winged Angel: Transforms into an enormous black monster made up of the millions of avatars it has assimilated. It's almost a literal example, as at one point he has actual wings. Admittedly he has two, but one is standing considerably higher than the other.
- Psychopathic Manchild: Love Machine loves to play and seems to treat everything it does as just another game to play. When there isn't a challenger present, it treats every subroutine and online system it finds as an elaborate playing piece, wreaking havoc on the various essential services that Oz runs. While most of the problems this causes are mostly inconvenient (causing immense traffic, causing false alarms with emergency services), these antics have much deadlier implications like switching off Sakae's heart-monitor and Colony Dropping a satellite onto a nuclear power-plant. He is also a very Sore Loser and will routinely cheat when it starts losing, sending out avatars it assimilated to hold back King Kazma when it starts losing their fight and redirecting the satellite to crash into the Jinnouchi Estate when Natsuki wins back most of its assimilated avatars in Koi-Koi.
- Sealed Evil in a Can: If Kenji hadn't accidentally hack into the Department of Defense, Love Machine would still be imprisoned and making new escape schemes as a common super-villian.
- Slasher Smile: His only expression, which makes him scarier and creepier.
- Sore Loser: While Love Machine is programmed to love games, it apparently wasn't taught anything about sportsmanship. When Natsuki defeats it at hanafuda, it tries to crush her avatar in its' gigantic hand, only for its fist to crumble around her as all its assimilated avatars are freed. When Sakae used her connections to help Japan cope with all the carnage he unleashed, it disabled her heart monitor, allowing her to die of a heart attack. Finally when Natsuki beats it in Koi Koi, Love Machine tries to nuke her house and kill her entire family with a falling satellite.
- Super-Fun Happy Thing of Doom: "Love Machine" is anything but loving, it's a petty AI that causes havoc for fun and will try to kill you if it catches you trying to stop it.
- Tron Lines:His second avatar onward has a lines going up and down his body to signify power.
- Villains Love Entertainment: While his creators made Love Machine to be a Computer Virus out to bulldoze any system it finds itself in, this is translated as an almost child-like love of games. It's introduced absorbing several Oz avatars, constructing an impressive Avatar of its own and then challenging King Kazma to a brawl. Later, it treats many of the vital and non-vital systems that use Oz as game-pieces, wreaking havoc in the real world. Natsuki weaponizes this by challenging it to a game of Hanafuda Koi-Koi, both sides wagering accounts and draining Love Machine of its power every time it loses.
- The Virus: Justified — it is explicitly a botnet
, a program designed to be this trope. His evolution even mirrors the progress of a worm — he starts off as an "evil" version of Kenji's avatar — the initial infection-but gradually gains more menacing forms as he assimilates more computing power. - Weapon of Mass Destruction: Love Machine was created to wreak havoc onto any system it is unleashed in. When it was sent into an internationally integral network like Oz, it nearly collapses society within the week. Sakae even compares its antics to a war.
- Wicked Heart Symbol: Fitting its name it often has a heart appear on its main avatar, but that doesn't make it any less dangerous.
- The Worm That Walks: Its third form fits this trope due to being made of millions of avatars.
