Main Character
It's you! An adventurer seeking a comfortable life. You take up Adeline's request to come help rebuild Mistria after the earthquake, in exchange for a piece of land you'll build into your new farm.
- Adventurer Archaeologist: A rather literal example, as you were an adventurer before coming to Mistria and Archaeology is literally one of the skills in the game. You can not only unearth artifacts in and around town, but also find them in the depths of the Mines.
- Dark and Troubled Past: In some conversations with Balor after his eight heart event, the protagonist can optionally admit to having had to do shady things to survive in their past before coming to Mistria.
- Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The player's name can be changed at any time. It defaults to "Ari" when starting a new game.
- Purely Aesthetic Gender: There's a wide selection of pronouns available to the player, and they can be changed on the fly from the game's status screen.
- Tertiary Sexual Characteristics: There's only one (highly customizable) sprite for the player character, so it's left up to the player's choice of hairstyle and outfit to convey gender if they want to.
- Virtual Paper Doll: You can unlock cosmetics for your avatar by purchasing scrolls, buying at vendors, or getting them as gifts or rewards.
Romanceable Characters
Bachelorettes

A budding gardener who lives in the house just north of you, on the edge of town.
- Caring Gardener: Loves to garden. She can usually be found tending to her plants or consulting the ancient plant book she got from Errol.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Blonde and an absolute ray of sunshine.
- Nice Girl: Probably one of the sweetest, nicest characters in the game, and that's saying something.

The daughter of the local baron, who is left in charge of Mistria with her brother Eiland while her parents are in the capital.
- Absurd Phobia: One of her lines has her lamenting a nightmare she had about running out of paperwork.
- Endearingly Dorky: Much like her brother, she's enthusiastic and bubbly while talking about logistics and paperwork, of all things.
- Love at First Sight: Downplayed; in her 8 heart event, if you pick the dating option, she admits she felt something for the player when she first saw them: she didn't expect the player to be cute enough that she accidentally dropped the vase of welcoming flowers after they walked in on her putting their house together.
- Must Have Caffeine: Likes coffee, and several lines are dedicated to her reliance on caffeine to make it through the working day with the enthusiasm she has.
- Only One Finds It Fun: Unironically enjoys the kind of paperwork that others find monotonous — up to and including filing her taxes, much to Eiland's bafflement.
- Workaholic: Loves to work, to the point where everyone has to remind her to take a break every once in a while.

The eldest daughter of Hemlock and Josephine and older sister to Maple and Luc. She works at her parents' inn, The Sleeping Dragon. She's an aspiring cook who loves to create new dishes for everyone in town to try.
- Feminine Women Can Cook: She's a beautiful, lovely girl who is one of the best cooks in Mistria. She wants to become a professional.
- Hidden Depths: She takes great pride in her cooking, but if you get to know her better, she opens up about how she's a little insecure if she's truly a good cook. Everyone in town swears she is, but she's unsure if it's just because they don't have much exposure to dishes from outside of Mistria.
- Supreme Chef: The town agrees that she's a world-class cook. The gifts she's most impressed by include high-level dishes that would take a lot of cooking skill on the part of the player character.
- Through His Stomach: Everyone loves her cooking, and she regularly asks people to try her dishes. She feeds you one of said dishes during her 2-Heart event. If you're dating, she regularly gifts you dishes she cooks up when you talk to her.

The owner of the town bathhouse where she lives with her dog Dozy. She was the newest person in town before you arrived, but seems rather miffed about living there.
- All Witches Have Cats: Inverted. She's a witch who has a pet dog.
- Comically Lopsided Rivalry: Has one with Valen, who has an easy time exploiting Juniper's pettiness in order to make her blush. Both secretly specialize in magic under the noses of the other townsfolk.
- Expy: Very clearly based off of Naga the Serpent, complete with the Noblewoman's Laugh.
- Hard-Drinking Party Girl: Downplayed in that she never goes overboard with it, but she frequents the bar at The Sleeping Dragon quite a bit, and has a rather flippant attitude about her drinking, contrasting her further with Valen.Juniper: A girl can't get a little sloppy on a Monday night? This is why you have a reputation for being stiff, Valen.
- Hot Witch: She's one of the sexiest characters in Mistria, and is a witch in all but name.
- Hypocritical Humor: She doesn't care much for Taliferro, bemoaning that some people think that having gorgeously-styled hair gives them the right to say whatever rude thing they want.
- Jerkass: Downplayed, given the nature of the game, but other than March, she is the villager with the meanest attitude in the town, prone to mocking others and experimenting on unwitting villagers.
- Mad Scientist: Has shades of this with her potions. She likes to test her new potions by feeding them to the villagers. Her 2-Heart event has you asking her to stop experimenting on the villagers, which she agrees to, provided that you become her new guinea pig.
- Magic Cauldron: Often seen watching over hers. She's able to convince most of the townsfolk that she only uses it for creating bath infusions and "health tonics," but the player quickly finds out that she's using it to test more esoteric types of magic potions.
- Noblewoman's Laugh: She even has a unique pose and sound to convey it.
- Pet the Dog:
- A literal example. She lives with her dog Dozy, who may or may not be her familiar. He's probably the only being she treats with decency and respect. Dozy is generally shown to be treated pretty well, with his own little mat to lie on in the spa.
- She becomes nicer to the player after her 8 Heart scene, more so in dating where she makes the actual effort in being nice and sweet with you in her own somewhat awkward way.
- Secret-Keeper: She's the only villager to find out the existence of Caldarus in her 8 Heart event due to the player explaining how they got their essence magic and spells from him after they used a healing spell to heal her. She suggests this because it would be too much for the villagers to take in for now.
- Shameless Fanservice Girl: Despite wearing an incredibly-revealing swimsuit while at the beach, she mentions that she thought it was too modest at first.
- Silence, You Fool!: When the player and Eiland enlist her help with translating the Earth Tablet, Eiland is about to go off on a archaeological tangent before Juniper hits him with one of these. It works.Juniper: Silence, nerd.

The town doctor, a calm, intelligent woman who's hiding a few secrets in her basement...
- Bifauxnen: Looks like a pretty young man at first glance.
- Creepy Basement: Has a very suspicious basement, which contains a barrel of powder that can instantly heal serious injuries. She doesn't like you snooping about it, however.
- Frontier Doctor: Has shades of this. She has to do with what she can after the earthquake, but hardly seems troubled by it.
- The Gadfly: Whenever Juniper tries to embarrass her at the Sleeping Dragon on Friday nights, Valen always manages to turn the tables and make Juniper look silly instead.
- Labcoat of Science and Medicine: Wears hers draped over her shoulders in her Spring and Fall portraits. Her Winter portrait involves a season-appropriate outdoors coat instead.
- Panacea: The secret she keeps in her basement: a powder that can instantly heal any number of injuries or treat seemingly any condition. It was invented by an ancestor of hers, but the formula is now lost and her supply runs out before long; Valen's storyline revolves around rediscovering how to make more.
Bachelors

The town blacksmith lives at his shop with his brother, Olric. He takes pride in his blacksmithing and is the only one who isn't happy about your arrival.
- Green-Eyed Monster: Inadvertently reveals in his first Heart Event that his initial dislike of the player character is due to feeling unappreciated for his own services towards Mistria in comparison to someone who moved there so recently.
- Sentimental Drunk: Friday nights at the bar reveal he gets uncharacteristically nice and friendly after a few drinks. It doesn't go unnoticed by the townsfolk.
- True Craftsman: March isn't just a blacksmith: he's an AWARD-WINNING blacksmith, and he'll let you know it. The bookshelf in his bedroom contains awards and trophies from competitions he's won for his creations.
- Tsundere: BIG TIME. He's rude and blunt towards you when you first meet him, but everyone assures you he has a soft inside. He starts to defrost the more you get to know him.

The son of the local baron, who is left in charge of Mistria with his sister Adeline while his parents are in the capital. Unlike Adeline, he would rather spend his time hunting for artifacts and helping at the museum.
- Endearingly Dorky: He's really into archaeology, to the point of babbling your ear off about his interests.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: If the player gives him sweets, he may deny that he regularly has "treat time," or that he has a specific name for it.
- Sweet Tooth: He's as reliant on sugar as his sister is on coffee. Most of his liked and loved gifts are high-quality confections, such as cakes and pies.
- Trash of the Titans: Discussed. Adeline shows concern with how disorganized Eiland's room is. Errol, who is also part of the conversation, remarks that the room is an archaeology dig of its own.

A carpenter and Landen's nephew who runs the Carpenter Shop with him.
- City Mouse: He's originally from the Capital, but seems to have adjusted to rural life fairly well.
- Friend to All Living Things: Loves animals, especially birds. High-quality animal products (such as Golden Bull Horns and Golden Horse Hair) score a lot of heart points with him when they're given as gifts, and his heart events center around rebuilding a birdhouse destroyed in the earthquake.
- Hidden Depths: His dialogue with Caldarus reveals he's fairly knowledgeable about baking.
- True Craftsman: Loves working with wood, though he isn't as obsessed as March is. Naturally, the two of them are friends.

A merchant who stayed in Mistria after the earthquake, and the first person you meet in Mistria.
- Closet Geek: He starts out acting like he's too cool to take part in Eiland's Dragons and Drama campaign and is just there to make up the numbers. It's not long before he's taking a turn GMing.
- Fell Off the Back of a Truck: If you're looking to get your hands on something specific, Balor's your guy. He tends to be a little dodgy about how he gets his hands on such goods, though, which doesn't help the rumors around town.
- Friendly Shopkeeper: He's the first person you meet in the village, and he's as kind and friendly as they come. He does put up some walls between him and the villagers, however, especially when it comes to where he's getting all of his stuff when he hasn't been seen leaving town since the earthquake.
- Money Fetish: Always cooking up a scheme to make a few extra Tesserae. His favored gifts include high-quality gemstones and jewelry artifacts on account of the sparkle.
- Venturous Smuggler: Due to his oddly low selling prices and how tight-lipped he is about his past, some of the townsfolk suspect that he may deal in stolen goods.

A farmer who lives to the west of you. You can buy livestock and farm supplies from his shop in his home, where he lives with his pet chicken Henrietta.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Often voices Henrietta's opinions on matters, despite the fact that Henrietta is a chicken and therefore cannot speak. Most of the other villagers also treat her like a very small person in her own right, aside from March.
- The Friendly Texan: Hayden displays shades of this trope, despite there presumably being no Texas in the game’s world. He’s bold, extroverted, a Nice Guy and Animal Lover, and much of his dialogue implies that he speaks with some level of a Texan or country accent.
- Gentle Giant: One of the largest people in Mistria, and a total sweetheart who loves his animals so much he can't bear to think about them growing up.
Other Villagers
Daughter of Holt and Nora, and Celine's little sister. She's a wannabe adventurer who started the Dragonguard, a group of warriors that mostly consists of herself, Maple, and Luc (aka the three kids in town).
- Genki Girl: Possesses near-boundless energy and a love of adventure, which mostly serves to get her into trouble.
- Kiddy Coveralls: Her spring, summer, and autumn outfits all incorporate these.
- Noodle Incident: The other villagers maintain that she is banned from having coffee until she's older due to a specific incident (literally referred to as “The Incident”), and indeed, not even the player character can give her caffeinated beverages as a gift.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Is the tomboy to Maple's girly girl. They love playing pretend, but Dell is much more focused on physical play and getting into mischief.
Adeline and Eiland's adoptive aunt, who lives with them in their manor. A former socialite in the capital, she has all the latest gossip and romantic advice for the young people of the village.
- Gossipy Hens: Elsie is fond of gossip, and would gladly tell you about someone's liked or loved gifts after you do a quest for her.
- I Was Quite a Looker: She's hardly ugly nowadays, but she loves waxing poetic about what a beautiful woman she was in her youth.
- Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places: Has a nigh-endless string of ex-lovers from the capital, all of whom she loves to gossip about.
The museum curator, he's a mentor to both Eiland and Olric, who worked with him when he ran the mine.
- Stronger Than They Look: You wouldn't immediately think the bald, white-haired man in the vest and suspenders was one of the strongest people in town, and then you learn he used to be a miner and still has most of the muscle he got from doing that. He has to get beds specially made to accommodate his broad shoulders, and when you get the "cleaning up the earthquake damage" event, he obliterates a stray rock with a single strike.
Co-owner of the Sleeping Dragon with his wife, Josephine, and father to Reina, Maple, and Luc. He formerly played in a band before settling down in Mistria.
- Mellow Fellow: He generally takes things pretty easy, at one point comparing himself to a medium-roast coffee, as he's "medium" in most things.
- Self-Deprecation: He likes to joke around about how his wife Josephine is far out of his league.
Runs the General Store with his wife Nora, and father of Celine and Dell. He's a practical jokester always ready to greet you with a dad joke.
- Pungeon Master: A significant percentage of encounters with him will feature at least one terrible pun.
Co-owner of the Sleeping Dragon with her husband Hemlock, and mother to Reina, Maple, and Luc.
A semi-retired carpenter who still works in the Carpenter Shop with his nephew, Ryis.
- Spry Old Guy: While he is advanced in age, he doesn't let that slow him down when it comes to carpentry.
Hemlock and Josephine's son, and brother to Reina and Maple. He is a budding entomologist.
- The Collector of the Strange: As his birthday approaches, his parents can be heard commenting that he would love more bugs, but what he needs is things to hold all the bugs he already has.
- Friend to Bugs: He has an encyclopedic knowledge of bugs, and clearly loves the things. He gushes over any that you donate to the museum, and all of his "loved" gifts but one are insects.
- Insistent Terminology: He doesn't like it when people refer to insects as "bugs", finding it demeaning.
- Nerd Glasses: Wears big ol' glasses and is extremely nerdy about bugs.
Hemlock and Josephine's youngest daughter, and Reina and Luc's sister. She loves royalty, and addresses herself as "Queen Maple".
- Princess Phase: Is going through a huge one currently, as she loves pretending to do royal activities and refers to herself as a queen.
- Tiny Tyrannical Girl: Played for Laughs. Maple is a very sweet little girl, but seems a little too into certain parts of her queen fantasy, including giving orders to her subjects and eliminating potential rivals to the throne.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: The girly girl to Dell's tomboy. While pretending to be a queen, Dell acts as her knight.
- Wise Beyond Their Years: Unlike other little girls going through a Princess Phase, she seems to be quite aware of the realities of royal life, and pretends to be a fairly cutthroat player of court intrigue.
Head of the Saturday Market, runs the General Store with her husband Holt, and mother to Celine and Dell.
March's brother who works part-time in the Blacksmith's Shop with him, along with other part-time jobs at the General Store and the Sleeping Dragon. Formerly worked at the mines until the earthquake.
- Born Lucky: Much to the chagrin of the other players at his table, he's always dealt the best hand at cards.
- The Ditz: He's very competent at working with stone and ore, but has a tendency to point out the obvious with endearing daftness.
- Little Bit Beastly: During Juniper's first Heart Event, he can be seen testing one of her potions, which she assures him will make him as ripped as he likes. It gives him a pair of rabbit ears (which he fails to notice) along with boosted running speed, which he takes to mean the tonic worked just as intended.
- Nice Guy: Especially in comparison to his brother, March, who he frequently tries to vouch for.
- The Not-Love Interest: Despite being about the same age as the bachelors, he's not romanceable. Whether he has some sort of partner off-screen or simply isn't interested in romance isn't specified.
- Sleeves Are for Wimps: His summer outfit has the sleeves torn off. At the Saturday Market, he mentions that doing so got him a scolding from Louis, even though he bought the shirt elsewhere.
A fisherwoman who lives on the beach. Has many tales from her youth as a sailor.
- Retired Badass: Frequently comments on her military experience. Supposedly, when she decided to settle down in Mistria, she had all her old weapons melted down into fishhooks.
Pets
Juniper's pet dog, who watches the bathhouse's front desk if Juniper's not there.
- Big Friendly Dog: He's a large golden retriever with a sleepy, amicable temperament. He even runs the Bathhouse whenever Juniper's out foraging.
- Morality Pet: To a degree, he serves this to Juniper. He's the only being that Juniper listens to and will do what he wants if asked so her being nice or giving gifts is sometimes because Dozy asked her to do it.
- Nearly Normal Animal: He's not shown to have any explicitly non-canine traits, but he's smart enough to effectively mind the Bathhouse.
- Stock Animal Diet: Among his favored gifts are dog treats and tiny dino skeketons.
Hayden's pet chicken, who has won showmanship awards. She lives in Hayden's house.
- Stock Animal Diet: Her favored gifts include corn, of both the raw and grilled variety.
Saturday Market Merchants
A traveling merchant who runs a cafe during the Saturday Market.
A traveling merchant who runs a hair salon during the Saturday Market.
A traveling merchant who sells furniture, new and refurbished, during the Saturday Market.
- True Craftsman: She's a well-renowned carpenter in Mistria, to the point where a lot of residents own some of her furnishings.
A traveling merchant who runs a clothing store during the Saturday Market.
- The Fashionista: Male version. Louis loves nothing more than being well-dressed and making sure everyone else is well-dressed to boot.Louis: Mistria is such a charming little town, isn't it? Everyone is so fashionable, I feel right at home.
- Persona Non Grata: Discussed. Some villagers would drop hints that Louis was banished from the Capital. Juniper thinks it's rather extreme.
- True Craftsman: Louis wouldn't be caught dead selling a garment he didn't sew himself.
A well-renowned chef who hosts cooking challenges for the villagers. He joins the Saturday Market after the upgrade.
- Hated by All: His smug and prickly personality clashes with the general vibe of Mistria, and even the kindest villagers struggle to find anything nice to say about him.
- Meaningful Name: A cooking competition host named Taliferro brings Iron Chef to mind, as "ferro" is derived from "ferrum", meaning "iron".
- Upper-Class Twit: When speaking to him for the first time since his arrival, he doesn't take kindly to being sent to "the sticks".
A salesman who peddles some strange wares. He joins the Saturday Market after the upgrade.
- Early-Bird Cameo: It's possible to meet him before the Saturday Market upgrade, as he appears in Balor's 6-heart event. For a time when the game was in early access, this would be his sole appearance.
- The Friend Nobody Likes: While he is well-known in the merchant's guild, Adeline shows no excitement when announcing his pending arrival, while Nora does note sketchy rumors.
- Snake Oil Salesman: He peddles some odd wares. He does attempt to sell a concoction to Hayden that will make Henrietta "as big as a barn", for example. He's also a literal example, as he sells snake oil that enhances your weapon for a short time.
Other Characters
A mysterious dragon statue uncovered on the player character's farm with the help of Eiland. He reveals himself in the player's dreams to be an ancient entity known as Caldarus, and requests the player's help in collecting Essence to restore magical potential in Mistria.
- Baffled by Own Biology: Upon taking his humanoid form, he expresses concern about, among other things, his heart beating faster on occasion.
- Barrier Maiden: The five seals found in the mines were Calderus's doing centuries ago, as he used them to seal away the Witch Queen and prevent her dangerous magical powers from affecting Mistria. This has affected his own strength in the process, however.
- Cast from Hit Points: When the Player is trapped during the Fire Seal quest, Caldarus uses all of his accumulated power to break the trap and free them. After that, he returns to a human form and is bedridden inside his home in the Deep Woods, but not before giving the player a new spell to clear the way to that area. The player cannot communicate with his statue anymore following this quest, but they can visit him anytime by using the same statue as a teleporter to his temple.
- Delicate and Sickly: Saving the Player and assuming a more-human form does a number on his overall health. He rarely ventures very far into the Deep Woods, and spends much of his time resting and recuperating while getting used to his new body. He breaks out of this trope upon having his energy return to him once the seals are broken.
- Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Caldarus is romanceable, which means he could be taken out for dates and can eventually marry the player.
- Dragons Are Divine: Dragons occupy a sacred place in Aldarian mythos. Caldarus is a completely benevolent figure, eager to learn what's become of humanity in the time since he was sealed.
- Humanity Ensues: After sacrificing most of his power to save the player from the Sealing Scroll trap, he assumes a mostly-human form to rest and recuperate.
- Lethal Chef: Sometimes, Caldarus will offhandedly mention he burns almost everything he cooks if you give him his favorite meals as a gift. Not only that, his romance event also shows he tends to over-season and improperly prepare ingredients for meals such as leaving whole unpeeled onions in onion soup.Caldarus: (when gifted Seafood Snowpea Noodles): Not only does this dish smell wonderful, it also provides valuable reference. I see that the noodles are not blackened and crumbling at the touch. That is the only way they turn out in my kitchen.
- Living Statue: He's unable to move from his pedestal, but is largely content with just being conscious enough to experience the world and speak to the player character.
- Long-Haired Pretty Boy: His humanoid form is that of a very pretty man with very long hair.
- Mayfly–December Romance: Subverted. Given he's an ages-old dragon, one would think his romance with the Player Character would be this, but upon breaking the final seal, Seridia reveals his Draconic Humanoid form is as mortal as they are.
- Super-Empowering: Takes essence from the player character in exchange for granting them the knowledge of new skill perks and spells.
A mysterious voice that calls out to you while you're exploring the mines, asking for help. Later on you discover the source as a ghostly priestess.
Her true form is unveiled as you complete the Mine storyline.
- Crystal Prison: Her corporeal self is seen at the bottom of the mines, caged in a crystal in front of the Final Seal.
- Did We Just Have Tea with Cthulhu?: Upon the reveal of her true form as a dragon, she becomes dateable, just like Caldarus.
- Draconic Humanoid: Her true form, Seridia, is a dragon, but she can change to a more humanoid form.
- Façade Drop: Upon breaking all the seals, she reveals herself as the Witch Queen, Seridia.
- Femme Fatale: As Seridia, she is obsessed with power and dresses in revealing outfits. Her spring outfit even has bones framing her figure for added danger.
- Power of the Void: She bestows upon you an ability to see Void items needed to break the fourth seal once you meet her there.
- Red and Black and Evil All Over: Her dragon form is as a black dragon with red claws, and she was once a vile Witch Queen. She did agree to bury the hatchet with Calderus for Mistria's sake, subduing the trope in the process.
- Stripperific: After her reveal, her Draconic Humanoid form shows a lot of skin, even in winter.
- The Voice: At first, her words come from a disembodied voice. When traveling deeper in the mines, you finally see a ghostly projection.
