Nakano Symphonies and associates

    Pollon Takaoka / 90110n

Voiced by: Shōya Chiba (Japanese), Max Mittelman (English)

Characters in Anonymous;Code
An ethical hacker who doesn't want to be a hacker. Has the ability of Saving and Loading that allows him Mental Time Travel.
  • Badass Biker: Pollon is a pro with graper motorbyke and had multiple close call chase scenes. In the climax he rides over buildings sideways to reach Asuma.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Empowered Asuma disables his Loading feature, meaning Pollon has only one life left. Until Anonymous finds a loophole.
  • Catchphrase: Pollon keeps calling Nakano Symphonies "anons with a bright future, who can't sit idly by when someone's in need!"
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Pollon is a kind of hacker who always helps people in need, even if he doesn't know how. When Momo is grabbed by the army, despite being surrounded, Pollon decides to cause a blackout and escape with her, then makes a promise to protect her. Even when all odds are not in his favor, he keeps prioritizing Momo.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: Compared to Rintaro Okabe, Pollon is humble and quick on the uptake. While Rintaro needs to perform a risky multi-stage procedure to send any D-Mail, which can only send him to an Alternate Universe where the change has taken place, Pollon can bring up and use "Saving and Loading" literally at any point to move to any previous point (both when the plot allows) and use it as many times as necessary. While it takes quite a while for Rintaro to realize what's happening, Pollon understands that he has somehow time-traveled right away and other characters immediately take him seriously whenever he starts throwing requests.
  • Defends Against Their Own Kind: He's a hacker who hates hackers due to them usually being involved with illegal business. He knows his methods aren't legal either and he hates it too. He softens up a bit towards the hackers after they start helping him with Cicada's quests and later combating Holy Office 513.
  • Despair Event Horizon: As everyone is trying to find a solution for the Meteorhack, Pollon doesn't believe there's any point. Cross calls him The Load and asks to sit out. He soon snaps out of it.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Pollon dreams of getting enough money through the hacking requests so he can go clean and take a "real job", but he has no idea what that would be.
  • Famed in Story:
    • After resolving the SA302LL Hihack incident, being the first ever to clear a Cicada 3301 quest, Pollon gets doxxed immediately and gets spammed with friend requests and job offers, while the Nakano Symphonies office gets surrounded. All the fans and rivals only become a hindrance during the second quest.
    • Close to the ending his abnormal achievements make everyone to think of him as the messiah.
  • I Gave My Word: Pollon always makes sure to keep his promises.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Pollon gives his VFF assistant a name "aaa" because he doesn't care.
  • A God I Am Not: In the revised timeline, his vast knowledge of the future leads to him being viewed as a messianic figure by the world. He expresses great discomfort in the role, especially since he only obtained that knowledge thanks to the contributions of his friends from the original timeline.
  • Good Is Not Soft: After traveling back to the start of the game, Pollon chooses to let the Pope reveal the date the world will end, prompting a wave of suicides, to ensure the world will be on edge enough to be receptive to Momo's call to action.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: During his Get a Hold of Yourself, Man! moment to Asuma, he shouts that no one has the right to call themselves God. In the revised timeline, he winds up being seen as a messianic figure because of his knowledge of the future. Naturally, he feels uncomfortable with the role.
  • Informed Attribute: Pollon is often noted to have No Social Skills when it comes to women, but aside of being awkward about Momo (who he doesn't know well and is uncomfortable herself), he's shown to talk to female characters just fine, even if he can be Innocently Insensitive.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • When he sees Momo sad after leaving her alone in the evening, he thinks it's because of the Cicada 3301 threat, with everyone else looking at him disappointed.
    • He tries to give a Christmas present to Momo, who, as a Catholic, is enraged by the commercialism of a holy event.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Pollon's father was also a hacker and an engineer. Contrary to what Pollon initially believed at first, he was also a hero who used his talents to save people, even though it cost him his life in the end.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: In order to save Momo, Pollon travels all the way back to the start of the story and basically heads off every potential conflict at the pass. Unfortunately, this leads to the world becoming too peaceful and thus one that wouldn't be interested in helping Momo stop the world's end. He ends up having to let the Pope reveal the date of the world's end in order to spark a wave of suicides just to get everyone on edge enough. Not to mention, he ends up feeling empty because his more active involvement in fixing things resulted in Momo never undergoing her Character Development and becoming the confident and plucky young woman he had come to admire as the world's true savior.
  • Rapid-Fire Typing: Pollon carries a tiny custom keyboard he can use as good as a regular keyboard.
  • Rebuilt Pedestal: Pollon for much of the story believes his father was a selfish asshole who let his family fall apart in favor of his work and in the end couldn't do anything to prevent the Sad Morning despite his obsession. Then he finds out that his father was the reason one of the satellites on Sad Morning malfunctioned, having used his final moments to save countless lives. Realizing his father was a hero, Pollon decides to use his hacking for good after previously having been brought down by his inability to stop Asuma from losing his mother.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: He loves donuts.

Momo Aizaki / Lúcia (Self-Fulfilling Spoilers!)

Voiced by: Shiina Natsukawa (Japanese), Anairis Quiñones (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/momo1_2.png
Regular clothes
A mysterious girl on the run from the Vatican. Pollon has promised to keep her safe.
  • Anti-Anti-Christ: Holy Office 513 believes Momo to be the Apocalypse Maiden they need for their plans, but she instead wants to prevent The End.
  • Artificial Human: Momo is a clone of the real-world Lúcia dos Santos when she was a child in 1920, with the Earth Simulator exporting her DNA. Or specifically, an artificial brain with implanted memories got transformed into a person in a way even Holy Office 513 doesn't know how.
  • Berserk Button: It's usually really difficult to rile her up, except when it comes to the subject of giving gifts on Christmas. As a devout Christian from the 20th Century, she finds the modern commercialization of the holiday deeply offensive.
  • Chekhov's Gun: As it turns out, the AR tattoo on her cheek is essential to reaching the Game's True Ending, as doing so requires the player to replicate it in the Game of Life.
  • Clone Angst: Being an exported copy of Lúcia dos Santos causes Momo to question if she's a real human.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: When eating Chinese ramen, Momo says "Está Delicioso!". Which is odd since she's Portugese.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Since she's a Paradox Person, resetting the Earth Simulator will delete her. She's still going with it, but Pollon trying to get around that leads to the true ending.
  • Iconic Outfit: Momo initially wears a cat costume, which is emphasized in the promotional material. Ironically, she discards it after the prologue and it's not explained why she was wearing it.
  • It's All My Fault: Because of her unnatural birth being allegedly connected to the Sad Morning and Holy Office 513 killing people related to her, Momo keeps blaming herself for everything.
  • Line-of-Sight Name: Pollon bluffs to Wind that he already has a girlfriend. When asked for a name, he derives Momo Aizaki from "Mom-O'Lakes Peaches", "Aichi Prefecture" and "ZAKI" from the news feed. She adopts it.
  • Meaningful Rename: "Momo Aizaki" is a name Pollon made up for his fake girlfriend, which Momo picks to hide her real name. She introduces herself as Lúcia (As in Lúcia dos Santos from the Fátima story), but since she's on the run nobody calls her that. She later makes it permanent since she's doesn't want to think of herself as a clone of Lúcia.
  • Mysterious Waif: A girl chased by the government suddenly appears in Pollon's life and he has no idea who she is even after looking up national registry. Aside from Saving the World and looking into Kent Korihisa / Cicada 3301, she refuses to explain what her deal is until very much later.
  • Paradox Person: Momo doesn't exist in Earth Simulator's prediction because she was artificially exported from a simulation.
  • Survivor Guilt: Momo is a part of the Anti-Fate faction, which were all killed off by Holy Office 513 right in front of her. And it's not the first time the people she knew have died. She keeps believing that she can do more to prevent any kind of incident. She leaves Pollon in Chapter 4 to reduce his involvement, but gets over it the next Chapter.
  • True Meaning of Christmas: In an optional scene, Pollon can give Momo a Christmas present. Momo, being a Catholic from the early 20th Century, is extremely offended and makes him do a Pose of Supplication. He reloads to replace the gift with festive decorations.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Her birth caused a shift in the worldline where a glitch led to Sad Morning, which she's sorry about despite it being out of her control. Allegedly, it being caused by a Millenium Bug and by Cicada 3301 are presented as equaly likely explanations.

    Cross Yumikawa / CROW

Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita (Japanese), Y. Chang (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cross_64.png
Pollon's partner, who despite being more skilled and rational, works in the background.
  • Mission Control: Cross provides Pollon with directions and background checks over the calls.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Pollon is emotional and is inclined to pursue justice, while Cross is more focused on the job and tends to snark.
  • Reformed Criminal: Cross Yumikawa was previously The Cracker under a name of CROW, and took any job, good and bad. After the encounter with Pollon, they've decided to work together, partially due to being impressed by Pollon's recklessness. From there on Cross has been The Atoner.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: When Pollon tries to hack a dating app to force a random girl to back up his lie, Cross tells him that's not what a hacker of justice who tries to quit would do. Pollon backs off.

    Wind Maki / FW Boy

Voiced by: Hiroyuki Takanaka (Japanese), A.J. Beckles (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wind_2.png
Nakano Symphonies's unofficial Knowledge Broker, who Pollon doesn't recognize as a part of the team due to tendency to hang out in the office and rarely helping.
  • Jerkass to One: Wind likes to think he's a broker for Nakano Symphonies, but Pollon says he's been useless so far and is also a pervert, so he doesn't want to think of him as a member. Nobody else minds him, however.
  • Kiss Me, I'm Virtual: Wind is a fan of VFF girls and keeps Yomi as his AI girlfriend, and wishes for the technology to advance enough to have children with her.
  • Knowledge Broker: Pollon doesn't recognize Wind as a team member because his broker job hasn't been useful for Nakano Symphonies initial activities. As a 4chan regular, Wind manages to keep the team up to date on Cicada 3301 information.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Initially he just cheers Pollon on, but him spending time on 4chan proves to actually be useful during Cicada 3301 quests and he get gets more physically active afterwards.
  • Status Quo Is God: When Pollom formally invites him to the team, Wind refuses because he's already used to the dynamic.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Wind Maki is similar to Itaru Hashida, both being overweight otaku hackers who have an Odd Friendship with the protagonist and have mainly a supporting role in the team.
  • Tsundere: Yomi's personality is designed to be frequently embarrassed and throwing romantic insults at Wind.

    Tengen "Oz" Ozutani

Voiced by: Shunsuke Sakuya (Japanese), Keith Silverstein (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tengen_7.png
A private detective looking into Gai Institution. He helps Pollon by chance and both regularly exchange information.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Learning that the world is artificial, he gives up on everything. Kaoru snaps him out if it.
  • Parental Substitute: Tengen was a friend of Nonoka's parents before they died, so he took her in.
  • Private Detective: Tengen is a detective who takes various kinds of jobs and works with the police, mainly by checking on the Government Conspiracy.
  • Trauma Button: Tengen nearly died working by getting drifted away from the space station and got miraculously saved by taking shelter in a detached escape pod, and only got rescued by a private company. Which causes him to have a panic attack when Pollon shows him a footage of a hijacked plane and he gets angry when someone doesn't appreciate life.

    Rosario Rosellini

Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa (Japanese), Dawn M. Bennett (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rosario.png
An assassin from Holy Office 513 who is actually The Mole and is friends with Momo.
  • The Comically Serious: Rosario is Vatican's assassin who after joining Nakano Symphonies threatens the sushi delivery company, then it turns out she screwed up the order. She can be a bit more paranoid than necessary.
  • The Mole: Rosario worked at Holy Office 513, but only to find means to stop them, and ditches them when she finally gets to Japan.
  • Sixth Ranger: Rosario is The Mole in Holy Office 513 who joins Nakano Symphonies at the middle point of the story.

Law Enforcement

    Kaoru Samezu

Voiced by: Yōji Ueda (Japanese), Daman Mills (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kaoru_4.png
The chief of Cyber Countermeasure Office and the boss of Cyber Force Dolls. Friends with Tengen.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Kaoru may be a police chief, but seeing that Pollon knows more than everyone else, he asks Cyber Force Dolls to do as he says. When he learns that the police and Holy Office 513 are conspiring, he blackmails secretary Nimura to put a stop to it.

    Cyber Force Dolls

Bambi voiced by: Ayano Yamamoto (Japanese), Cassandra Lee Morris (English)
Riko voiced by: Haruka Okaki (Japanese), Xanthe Huynh (English)
Iroha voiced by: Mariko Honda (Japanese), Emi Lo (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cyberdolls.png
Bambi Kurashina, Riko Sawai and Iroha Kyogoku, a trio of police officers who also double as idols teaching kids about cybersecurity.
  • Badass Biker: Iroha turns out to be as daring graper biker as Pollon.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Bambi is pissed off Pollon uses illegal hacking regardless if it saves lives or not. It becomes an issue in Chapter 7 when Holy Office 513 pressures the government to assist them, meaning Cyber Force Dolls have turn a blind eye while Pollon is murdered right in front of them. They don't.
  • Idol Singer: Bambi, Riko and Iroha work both as policewoman at TMPD Cyber Security Div and as actual idols. Since Japan is even more demilitarized, cops doubling as social media figures isn't too unusual, but Pollon can't take them seriously because of it. Their only concert got ruined by a storm, and Pollon helps them with the second one.
  • Satellite Character: Riko and Iroha mainly show up sometimes when Bambi shows up and are Out of Focus.
  • Say My Name: When Pollon bypasses Cyber Force Dolls, Bambi yells his name. She tends to do that again when annoyed.
  • Sympathetic Inspector Antagonist: On a few occasions they get in Pollon's way since he's a hacker and they are policement, even if they understand he hasn't hurt anyone.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Bambi acts less as a Inspector Javert the more she spends time with Pollon.

Gai Institution

    Asuma Soga (Self-Fulfilling Spoilers!)

Voiced by: Natsumi Fujiwara (Japanese), Erica Mendez (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/asumacube.png
A 14 year old engineer of GAIA with a lot of political power and extremely short temper.
  • Abusive Parents: Yukihira Soga wished to match to Soga's genius, was trialed for embezzling money, and decided to show superiority through physical abuse. Then commuted suicide and Miori put all blame on Soga, then tried to commit Murder-Suicide as well, and still tries to do it when she wakes from a coma.
  • Apocalypse Maiden: Asuma turns out to be the one to end the world instead of Momo. By getting his mother to kill herself, Felino invokes his Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Subverted. The story makes Asuma inactive throughout most of the plot, and while extremely intelligent, shows he's still a 14 year old kid and GAIA is not very effective against other Earth Simulators or abnormalities. When the government betrays him, his backstory is explored and he feels like a victim in comparison. But when Felino makes him an Unwitting Pawn, it works out too well and he overwhelmes her instead.
  • Bratty Half-Pint: Despite being just two years younger than Pollon and Momo, he's over a head shorter and has a big It's All About Me attitude problem.
  • Child Prodigy: Asuma became a top hacker as a kid, which caused the government to recruit him and this gave him an endless ego.
  • Clock King: Asuma has watched dozens of thousands of GAIA predictions and has memorized all of them down to a second.
  • Control Freak: Asuma believes his GAIA Earth Simulator is perfect and allowing him to see any location or point in time is like having godly powers. Pollon entering the picture and messing with the prediction causes him to go behind the government to figure out what happened. When the heroes destroy his asteroid, he is less bothered that his Hope Crusher plan didn't work but more that people don't do as he says in general.
  • Creepy Child: Asuma is a small Evil Genius who wants to keep the GAIA Earth Simulator to himself. He's not above killing people, and when asked, he says he couldn't be bothered with non-lethal solutions even if he could have used them.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Asuma has put less security to the Earth Simulator, an equivalent of an armed nuke, than to his mother's Cradle to keep her safe, even after she blamed him for the father's suicide.
  • Evil Is Petty: In the climax Asuma appears in Vatican to prevent the heroes from accessing Necro Pilgrimage. When Felino asks if he's joining Holy Office 513, he tells that he just wants to crush Pollon's hope simply because he doesn't do what he says, and that's after Pollon went out of his way to protect his family. Felino is dumbfounded and realizes Asuma can kill her on a whim.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He doesn't tolerate being ordered, like at all, even saying that you're worried about his safety results in being called an imbecile.
  • Hope Crusher: Once he cracks with despair, he tries to use godly powers mainly to spite Pollon's optimism and gaslights him into thinking people die because of him. If he can't get what he wants, neither should anyone.
  • Older Than They Look: He looks like a grade schooler but is actually only two years younger than Pollon. His obsession with stuffed animals and bratty disposition don't help matters.
  • The Omniscient: GAIA Earth Simulator allows Asuma to see into the past and the future from any geographic point, allowing him to find blackmail on anyone in the world. Pollon altering the events throws the simulation off, which causes Asuma to hyperfocus on getting the explanation.
  • Physical God: By synchronizing with his World Layer predecessor through GAIA, Asuma can alter the world at will, capable of lifitng cities, Weather Manipulation or summoning an asteroid. He gets Supernatural Gold Eyes and Spiky Hair and goes on a deletion spree. The only reason he doesn't end all immediatelly is because the synchronization takes time, his personal grudge with Pollon, and he's not immune to damage.
  • Power of the Void: Empowered Asuma can Ret-Gone people at will and throws a black hole at Pollon.
  • Rubik's Cube: International Genius Symbol: As an Establishing Character Moment, Asuma is seen holding a shiny Rubik's cube which also acts as a controller for GAIA, while complaining about being ordered around.
  • Sanity Slippage: After his mother is killed, he taps into a higher World Layer GAIA to delete everyone he doesn't like for being noisy.
  • Tragic Villain: Asuma in the end is just a child who wants to create a world where his suicidal parents would love him. Once he creates such world, he realizes how fake these parents are and how nothing matters.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Asuma, despite being a little boy and demanding teddy bears, bosses politicians around and is sending the security to shoot people he doesn't like.
  • Virtual-Reality Warper: After it's established that the current story takes place inside a higher-Layer Earth Simulator, and after Holy Office 513 pushes Asuma into the Despair Event Horizon, he "synchronizes" with the higher version of himself, which allows him to bend the world as he pleases.

    Ewan Okuda (Self-Fulfilling Spoilers!)

Voiced by: Kenjiro Tsuda (Japanese), Kaiji Tang (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ewan_8.png
GAIA's engineer who mainly acts as Asuma's caretaker.
  • Deep Cover Agent: Ewan turns out to be a Holy Office 513 member, and not the only one at Gai Institution. While he's grown attached to Asuma and respects him, he still tries to kill his mother on Felino's orders.
  • Faking the Dead: Ewan Okuda fakes being shot to get to Asuma's mom so she can kill herself in front of him.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Despite genuinely coming to admire Asuma, his belief in Holy Officer 13's mission proves too strong to overcome, even in the timeline where Felino is apprehended and can't exert her influence over him.
  • Tears of Remorse: He starts crying as he brings Asuma's mother out in front of her son so that she can kill herself right in front of him.
  • Walking Spoiler: He's not shown to do much for most of the plot aside babysitting Asuma, then he turns out to be not on Asuma's side.

    Major Graham Kingly

Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki (Japanese), Bill Butts (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/graham.png
A squad leader of Japan-United States Defence Force. Works for Asuma, but only on Japanese government's orders.
  • Bald of Evil: He's a bald and ruthless solider working with the Government Conspiracy.
  • A Father to His Men: After his failure to capture Momo, he takes full responsibility for what happened and asks that his men not be punished.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Pollon manages to convince him to join the measures against Asuma's Meteorhack and later for the World Reset. Graham manages a large squad during the Vatican raid.
  • My Country, Right or Wrong: Even he think that the government ordering to eliminate Asuma is too much, but he's a soldier and needs to do as asked.
  • Noble Demon: Ruthless and brutal in his tactics, but he's also A Father to His Men and can be convinced to help if the world itself is at stake.
  • Starter Villain: Is the first obstacle in the story and escaping him is the problem of the prologue.
  • Super-Strength: He has transhuman enhancements that lets him lift people like toys.

Holy Office 513

    Felino Arcana

Voiced by: Ayane Sakura (Japanese), Brittany Lauda (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/felino.png
The counselor of Holy Office 513 who believes the vision of Mary warning about The End of the World as We Know It is a Mission from God to ensure it happens.
  • Affably Evil: Felino Arcana believes herself to be the righteous messenger of God and tries to extend salvation to others, feeling that killing them is most unfortunate.
  • Big Bad: As the head of the The Conspiracy that can boss even Japanese government around and the head of the Apocalypse Cult, she's the main threat throughout most of the story.
  • Dragon-in-Chief: She's not actually the leader of the Holy Office 513, Lorenzo Garzelli is. But since the latter is The Ghost and acknowledges Felino has superior powers, technically Felino is in charge of all operations.
  • Grand Theft Me: Felino's ability is remote brainwashing of other Christians, any of over a billion of them, but only if they have stigmata scars willingly or unwittingly.
  • Selective Obliviousness: She has convinced herself that the events of Fátima means God wants the world to end, despite Holy Mary giving her prophecy to Lúcia specifically to prevent it, then treats Lúcia, a human of two miracles, like a heretic.
  • Villainous Breakdown: In the true ending Pollon gets her arrested before there are any casualties. She, as someone who can see the future, really doesn't take it well someone being in close contact with an outside entity.

    Davide Iesue

Voiced by: Setsuji Sato (Japanese), Sean Chiplock (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/davide_1.png
A Deliberator with control over heat.
  • Ax-Crazy: Davide is a religious fanatic who treats sinners like a hunting prey and is Laughing Mad when given a fight.
  • Came Back Strong: The walking corpse of Davide returns in Chapter 7. And he's now so strong, his fire evaporates a falling steel beam and he runs super fast. No explanation is given for any of this.
  • Cross Attack: Davide carries a giant crucifix that acts as a hacking tool and he can also swing it around.
  • Necessary Drawback: Because his heat ability comes from the arms, there's a cooldown for when he can use it again without harming himself.
  • Pyromaniac: Davide is a psychopath whose special ability is melting objects and setting people on fire. Pollon asks why doesn't he work at crematorium.

    Ronin Del Cielo

Voiced by: Yuuki Fujiwara (Japanese), Ryan Colt Levy (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ronin_1.png
A Deliberator who claims to be invulnerable.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Ronin can use his Earth Simulator connection to dodge bullets.
  • In the Hood: Ronin's eyes are completely covered by the hood. He loses it before his defeat.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Since his Combat Clairvoyance relies on Earth Simulator, Pollon Loading and asking others to do anything differently renders his ability useless until he recalibrates.

Others

    Kent Korihisa / Cicada 3301

Voiced by: Takahiro Sakurai (Japanese), Brandon McInnis (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kent_7.png
An enigmatic hacker who has hosted a mysterious ARG in 2012. In 2036 he reappears to challenge the world with online puzzles and nobody is able to complete them. He is believed to be responsible for the Sad Morning due to predicting it and having the skill to pull it off. Momo is searching for him for independent reasons.
  • The Ace: Everyone recognizes him as the top wizard-tier hacker in the world, puling off stunts that are described as miraculous.
  • Ambiguously Evil: Cicada 3301 has challenged hackers across the world to solve quests that lead to many deaths if not stopped. It's unclear if he's causing them or only had foresight for them, but the everyone leans on the former. While Holy Office 513 is involved with some of them, it's not shown how any of the quests were set in motion.
  • The Atoner: He was working with Holy Office 513 to develop Earth Simulator Necro Pilgrimage. Once it's complete and Kent realizes they're going to use it for world domination, he fled to search for an ally who can combat a predictive quantum computer.
  • Dead All Along: Kent Korihisa was killed during Sad Morning and his corpse is in JUNO's possession, meaning Cicada 3301 is impersonating him. Turns out Cicada 3301 is the Amadeus version of him continuing where he left off.
  • Good Is Not Soft: In attempts to stop The End of the World as We Know It, he set up a chain of events that would result in many deaths as well. If the incidents are averted then nobody dies and he's found what he's been looking for, if not then the world is doomed anyway. He also tries to directly kill Asuma for interfering with his Reality Warper ability, despite Pollon asking not to provoke him.
  • Ret-Gone: When Asuma makes him higher World Layer version disappear, all his derivatives disappear as well.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Cicada 3301 serves a similar role as John Titor, both being enigmatic figures with a secret identity who post predictions about 2036 and World War III on message boards and seek someone with Mental Time Travel, before physically appearing near the climax. Ironically, John Titor is brought up in a separate context.

    Juno Saionji / JUNO

Voiced by: Yukari Tamura (Japanese), Laura Stahl (English)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/juno_37.png
The #1 ranked hacker who is known for an unclear "phantom" ability. She starts attacking Pollon during Cicada 3301 quests for unknown reasons.
  • Death Seeker: JUNO says being acknowledged by Kent by solving the Cicada 3301 quests is the only thing that matters to her and she'll kill herself once she's done to stay at Kent's side. When Kent himself clarifies the quest was not meant for her, she switches to helping Pollon as he requested and intending to do a Murder-Suicide once that's done.
  • Dramatic High Perching: JUNO suddenly teleports from the way of Tengen's car to the roof a building, looking into the distance mysteriously. She later spies on Nakano Symphonies while standing on a fence.
  • Given Name Reveal: JUNO's name is Juno Saionji, revealed in Chapter 7.
  • Incest-ant Admirer: Her obsession with her brother Kent is...unhealthily romantic to say the least.
  • Necessary Drawback: JUNO's quantum teleportation that she has developed by herself using Kent's notes is said to be bordering on Sci-Fi on par with GAIA's Earth Simulator, a Story-Breaker Power on its own, as it allows her to be anywhere and Tele-Frag opponents. The only weaknesses are that she can't see where she's teleportation to, it's tiresome, and relies on the internet connection.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: JUNO takes Pollon solving Cicada 3301 quests (where people would have died without him) as him obstructing her search for her big brother, and interferes with the third quest just to make Pollon fail out of spite despite there being other threats at play.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: JUNO turns out to be a sister of Kent Korihisa, who has reconstructed his corpse to the every drop of blood to preserve his handsomeness and is willing to kill anyone who's looking into Cicada 3301 because she thinks they are romantically interested in him, and then plans to kill herself. When her teleportation trick gets defeated, she just curls on the floor and starts crying. When Amadeus Kent asks her to ally with Pollon, she openly promises to betray him later so Kent would pay more attention to her, and is being very fickle when actually cooperating.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: JUNO saves Pollon from falling off the Egg Tower since he doesn't have the BMI to Load with, but only because Amadeus Kent asked her to help out. She remains an odd ally since then, while constantly reminding that her promise of Murder-Suicide is still in effect.
  • Running Gag: Every time JUNO appears, someone gets distracted by her perfume.
  • Tele-Frag:
    • In one of the bad endings JUNO kills Pollon by moving him inside a wall.
    • JUNO accidentally gets stabbed by a construction rod trying to teleport Pollon somewhere away from Gai Institution. She quickly recovers after finding a clinic.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Kent asks her to help Pollon to defend Asuma Soga. While that puts her in the Anti-Fate faction, she keeps reminding Pollon that she'll kill him once the job is done, then herself. She then switches her hatered to Asuma for deleting Kent.
  • Unknown Relative: JUNO turns out to be a young sister of Kent Korihisa and is looking for Cicada 3301, psychotically believing it will make them closer despite knowing he's Dead All Along.
  • Unknown Rival: She thinks Momo and Pollon are trying to steal her bother for themselves and keeps interfering, calling them homewreckers. Momo is Kent's old colleague, and Pollon tries to solve Cicada 3301 to prevent people from dying, so they have no idea what she's on about.
  • Verbal Tic JUNO tells Pollon to "Abandonné", "Lamentabile", "Con Anima" and "Cadenza", which are musical terms.
  • Villain Teleportation: JUNO is a wizard-tier hacker nicknamed "phantom" who can seemingly hijack senses to appear as if she vanishes in thin air or inexplicably moves people by touching them without leaving a GPS trace. It turns out she's using quantum teleportation with a special satellite to manifest anywhere by inputting the coordinates, which gets handy when the heroes need to infiltrate Gai Institution.
  • Yandere: JUNO is completely unhinged when her brother Kent is involved and treats anyone who takes part of Cicada 3301's quest as love rivals.
