Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Bright New Dawn (Animation)

By now, anyone familiar with Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf knows the drill: Chinese animated children's cartoon, released 2005, created by Creative Power Entertaining, stars goats and wolves, has a lot of episodes. Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Bright New Dawn (喜羊羊与灰太狼之异国破晓) is the tenth main movie and twelfth movie overall in the film series and a prequel to the TV series' seasons Against the Dark Force and The Great Rescue. The film released on a wide scale on July 26th, 2025, shortly before the TV show's 20th anniversary, and is to celebrate that anniversary.

The Defenders receive a distress signal from Lumin Land and travel to it to defend it from the dark force. A warrior named Sir Eternox had sealed the dark force successfully with the Light Sword, but enough dark force has leaked out to where Lumin Land is still in danger. Sir Eternox gives the Defenders the directions to look for five infusion points to use their magic on to rescue Lumin Land. They also receive help from Lux, Sir Eternox's assistant, and a bold panda girl named Jade. As the goats learn, things may not completely be what they seem.

Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Bright New Dawn contains the following tropes:

  • Baby Morph Episode: For much of the film, Wolffy is younger than normal due to coming into contact with Baby Grass. At first, he's unable to communicate with the goats through talking, but he can talk again later.
  • Confused Question Mark: One of Wolffy's attempts to explain that he smells the dark force doesn't work because he is a baby and cannot talk. The goats look at him with question marks in place of their faces.
  • Fantastic Medicinal Bodily Product: The one-eyed dark force creatures produce mucus that can heal wounds. Jade rubs some of that mucus on Sparky, who is scared because the dark force creature looks like a cockroach, and he's afraid of cockroaches.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: In one scene, as Jonie is looking for one of the infusion points, she fights against a large red crab, using a water attack to defend herself from it.
  • Match Cut: The montage of everybody looking for the infusion points cuts from Tibbie in a bamboo forest to Weslie jumping from a cliff to Jonie running through a desert to Sparky running through a swamp, all with the goats in similar positions to make it look continuous.
  • Meaningful Echo: Jade's dad tells her not to touch dark force creatures when she almost picks one up, and she tells him that "It's a special case!" since it almost hurt people. Later, when everybody must fight dark force creatures, Jade's dad comes to save her from a Man-Eating Plant, Jade asks him why he's touching the dark force creatures, and he says it's a special case, indicating that this time they really do need to break their own rules to save everyone.
  • In Medias Res: After the prologue, there is a scene with the Defenders in different wilderness areas, fighting different creatures including the dark force. Cut to three hours earlier, we're shown a scene that explains how they got there - they are being taken to Lumin Land to defend it. We then cut back to the wilderness.
  • Neck Lift: A bad guy does something similar, holding Weslie by part of his clothing near his neck, to keep him on a wall of rock so that the bad guy's plans aren't stopped by him. Weslie asks him what he's doing.
  • The Nose Knows: Anybody exposed to Baby Grass gains the ability to smell where the dark force is if it shows up. Wolffy gains this power, but for a while he is unable to communicate to the goats that he can smell the dark force because the Baby Grass also turned him into a baby.
  • Pedal-to-the-Metal Shot: Wolffy does some work to a rocking car in the baby playground to make it drive like an actual car, then he presses a button on it and floors the brake to leave the playground.
  • Toilet Humor: Paddi runs with a specific plan to deal with a bad guy, which ends up being peeing on him. Tibbie and Jonie, who are watching from a distance, look away and attempt to forget about it, while the others can break free from the bad guy.
