Many works have extensive Character Sheets, but certain characters warrant their own Character-Specific Page.
These pages are largely created due to the wiki software/server's issues with Overly Long Pages. If a Characters/ page gets too large for the wiki and much of it's devoted to a single character, moving that character to their own dedicated page is a practical way to split the content into smaller pages.
In some cases the new Character-Specific Page may still be too long for the wiki after that split - in which case we split the examples into subpages (usually alphabetically) in the same way we would for a work or trope page.
None of this means that these characters are "better", more beloved or more important, just that they have so many tropes that they require their own pages. By the same token, a beloved and popular character is not "entitled" to a Character-Specific Page if there's no need to split due to page size.
Before a Character-Specific Page can be launched, several criteria must be met first
- A new Character-Specific Page will only be considered if the original page is close to 250,000 characters in length.
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups. A CSP can only be created if this option isn't workable.
- The character folder must be cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples, removing outdated/misused tropes, and making sure all tropes listed fall under Characters and its related indexes.
- The potential CSP's character folder must have at least 40,000 characters.
- The parent page that the potential CSP came from must still have at least 40,000 characters after the CSP is launched.
Some other important notes:
- Monikers and character titles are not allowed in the page's title. (e.g. One Piece: Monkey D. Luffy is preferred over his full in-series moniker: One Piece: "Straw Hat" Monkey D. Luffy)
- Superfluous naming like middle names should be kept to a minimum, especially if it's not something the work draws attention to.
- The original page a character is split off from should still have enough writing to stand on its own (i.e. Having an equivalent byte count to the new page).
These pages are not to be confused with SelfDemonstrating.Character Pages, which is Just for Fun.
No Real Life Examples, Please! Such a page already exists. Also, odds are almost every single one of these pages will contain spoilers. An extra warning might be given if the character is a spoiler in and of themselves, but that's the only warning you'll get.
