Seven appears not to have coded a primetime special for The Chase separately from its daily 5pm edition yesterday.

The cricket-themed special ran at 7:30pm. But by not titling it differently with ratings provider OzTAM, two shows have been averaged into one single figure of 537,000 viewers -at least until it can be adjusted to discern between the two.

Once again Married at First Sight dominated viewing at 1.82m in National TV Audience.

Three sessions of the Winter Olympics 947,000 / 473,000 / 471,000 again ensured Nine won the night.

7:30 drew 759,000 for ABC then I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here (513,000) and Dr. Karl’s How Things Work (470,000).

Later Doc was 288,000 then Mission to Space with Francis Bourgeois (216,000) and NCIS (184,000).

Nine News was 1.32m for Seven then wins by A Current Affair (1.15m) and Tipping Point (747,000).

Seven News clinched a win with 1.33m. Home & Away was high at 901,000. Ambulance Code Red managed 155,000.

ABC News scored 934,000 for ABC. Hard Quiz (326,000) and Grand Designs Transformations (116,000) followed.

Millionaire Hot Seat Deal drew 283,000 for 10 then 10 News (273,000), Deal or No Deal (167,000), 10 News+ (121,000) and 10 Late News (104,000).

On SBS it was SBS World News (199,000 / 136,000), Who Do You Think You Are? (115,000) and Bardot (72,000).

  2. Am I the only one who finds the Chase a bit dubious? Yesterday $60k was on offer at the end, and the Governess cruised through every single question without hesitation. Some questions were so obscure, and she answered before Larry finished asking. In the end, as always no one won anything. I’ve given up on it

    1. It really depends on the Chasers knowledge set and how many questions the team get to put pressure on the Chaser. Usually the more steps a Chaser has to make the more mistakes they make.

  3. 10 should programme a “Classic Comedy Hour” between 6 and 7, and mine the CBS vaults. Certainly be a lot cheaper than the News. What are your thoughts?

    1. Not a bad idea. It’s a clear point of difference and something out of the box. But considering 10 have been cutting back on CBS Paramount content recently and they have no plans as of the moment to add any more classic programming to their multichannels, I just can’t see it happening..

  4. I think 10 are going to have to concede that no matter what they put on at 6:00pm, they’ll always come third. I’ve been reading various comments from people saying that ‘The Project’ might/should make a return. Yes, ‘The Project’ had slightly better viewing numbers than its replacement, but I think what has been forgotten in all this is that Channel 10 couldn’t afford to continue paying Roving Enterprises for production costs. That’s mainly why it was discontinued after 15 years. It’s quite evident that 10 will either add a 30 minute extension to the evening news or add another game show if the revamped current affairs doesn’t work out..

    1. Youre right, but i think the main issue was axing it (The Project), without testing the waters of a replacement first.
      Was it expensive yes…but it also had 200k plus more eyeballs watching 6 nights a week that have now gone elsewhere (along with the 4pm slot losing Neighbours) thats a lot of eyeballs they’ve lost promoting their own shows to throughout the week.

I could possibly see a point in time where Ten look towards re-exploring the idea of a Project-like show, but as a completely in-house production and probably under a completely different name. As per Q+A (which is more or less going to be revived next month under the somewhat clunky “ABC National Forum” name), The Project had become something of a toxic brand during its final few years on-air.

      That aside, how long until Ten finally bite the bullet and just go with a 6pm start to primetime, followed by lighter shows (HYBPA, Gogglebox, Cheap Seats) at 7.30pm then a mid-evening news bulletin at 8.30pm? It’s not like they’ve really got much to lose at this point and at least with such a lineup, you’d be providing a *genuine* alternative for viewers!

      All other networks including the ABC/SBS pretty much have the market for news and game/quiz shows (well, the public broadcasters have repeats of Hard Quiz and Letters & Numbers/Mastermind as a news lead-in!) cornered in the early evenings.

      1. Oh yeah, I forgot about the controversies surrounding ‘The Project’ in its final few years. Don’t know about 10 starting primetime at 6:00pm, maybe a 7:00pm start instead? The reality shows won’t survive against the mighty 6:00pm newscasts on the other two networks. That’s interesting regarding 10 possibly reviving a Project-style format. What would they choose as a name? They can’t just keep naming everything after news like they’ve done with ’10+’. And who would they get as talent to front said show if it goes ahead?
