Thanksgiving is more than turkey, although people want turkey. And this crowd of water-gazers, thousands upon thousands fixed in ocean reveries, some leaning against the rails, some seated on the grass, these all landsfolk gathered in the shade on a 100-degree day, they know that July 4 is more than tall ships, but they do want tall ships . . . .

Ships after a stormy night at anchor crowded into the Narrows, as if the ships themselves were jostling to arrive in port, mimicking the folks assembling below Bay Ridge.

Eagle arrives, although actually

following Oosterschelde.

Pride of Baltimore II and an unidentified sloop ketch Ticonderoga sail through next,

Esmeralda was next with

brave crew in the rigging.

Lady Maryland passed in review, as did

ARC Gloria,

American Eagle,

Juan Bautista Cambiaso,

and Pioneer.

More to come soon.
