Nine Months Ago
Peter takes a helicopter flight in Thailand where he meets Catherine Weaver on a rooftop. She introduces herself as his case officer. They talk about his time in Germany, where he had to get all of his tattoos removed. She told him about his potential mission in Bangkok, then voiced her concerns about him being a field agent for Night Action. She offered him a way out, but he declined.
Catherine brought him to meet Alice Leeds, his training officer for this mission. Catherine has agents in other countries, so she would be in and out to check on Peter's progress. When Catherine leaves, Peter and Alice discuss the lack of a field office. She gives him a new phone with her number already programmed in, reminding him to never save the Night Action number because internationally, they don't exist. He wants to save Rose's number. Alice reminds him they aren't normal people and that relationships are messy. It's easier for him to make a clean break. He accepts her advice, starting his new life.
Present Day
Peter and Rose run through the alleys of New York City. Their attackers make a plan to cut them off through the back, forcing Peter into a fight with one of them. Rose tries to help with the fight, though Peter gets them away. They get into the back of a Uber, with Rose bribing the driver with a wad of cash to drive them a few blocks.
Vega pulls up to pick up the battered assailant, though he didn't see where Rose and Peter went.
Peter and Rose get into his white van and drive away undetected. They arrive at his apartment where he stresses the importance of no one knowing where he is. She's flustered because someone tried to kill them again. She notices his bleeding side which is why he went to the urgent care - it's infected. She explains exactly how she found him, reassuring him that no one else knows where he is. He apologizes for his tone and asks why she came to find him. She explains about the mysterious phone call, her meeting with Catherine, and how worried Rose was about him. He can't get her involved, and she insists she's already involved because of everything she's been through lately. He's trying to find Warren Stocker, the father of the kid at the basketball court. He tells Rose about the Bangkok mission. He can't trust anyone except her. It can't be like last time because he can't keep her safe. She wasn't trying to get in the way. He smirks to admit if she wasn't there, he wouldn't have seen the other guy. They chuckle over her saving him in a way.
In the morning, Noor delivers information to one of the diplomats in the Iranian Mission. Abbas tells her that her help has been requested in the kitchen. He calls everyone else's attention for a meeting. The General Assembly is in a week and he urges them to comport themselves appropriately because their behavior is under a microscope. Because of the Americans' paranoia over Iran, all mission staff members are confined to a strict perimeter within the city. The members will be detained and deported if they venture outside the perimeter. He introduces them to their new head of mission security, Javad Rahmani. Noor is giving him a drink during the introduction.
After the Ambassador's speech, Noor begins to tidy up Abbas's desk, though Haleh tells her to leave it to the cleaning staff. She doesn't mind and is used to cleaning up after her little brother. Haleh jokes that she's making the other assistants look bad. She then teases Noor about Javad's obvious attraction to her, remarking how both Noor and Javad are catches. Noor is also the only unmarried woman in the Mission. Abbas returns to the office and converses with Haleh about something needing cleaned. Haleh is meant to take notes in the upcoming meeting, so Noor volunteers to take it.
Peter wakes up and finds Rose watching his live feed. She's been working on his case all night because she can't sleep. She reprogrammed the code of AdVerse to better track Warren Stocker. He worries about her not sleeping last night, but she brushes it off as fine. Her tracking is a 12-hour delay at best. He finds it cool and learns this isn't her company. She went through a lot in the past 10 months that he missed. He wanted to call her and insists it wasn't fine. He should have called like he promised. She knows he's doing important work, but he needs help now. He can't call Travers until he gets Warren and find out what intel he was leaking, to who, and who at Night Action is compromised. He needs undeniable proof before he can take it further. She remembers his excitement about becoming a Night Agent. He compares it to being a "really, really small, really important, piece of the engine" of a car. If he fails, everything around him falls apart and he can't let that happen. She teases him about the discount cameras he's using to surveil Warren's hold house. Warren lost the house and custody of Ethan in the divorce, but a month ago, he had fake passports made for both of them. Peter thinks he's going to take Ethan and disappear. The feed goes active when Ethan and his mom head out to Ethan's basketball game, so Peter starts leaving to protect Ethan. She insists she can't be alone right now and offers to help him. She's safer with him then alone.
Over at the basketball game, Warren intercepts Ethan outside the locker room and convinces Ethan to leave so they can hang out together. Ethan's stepfather Frank arrives to check on Ethan since he didn't come out with the other plays. Warren insists that Ethan leave so they can talk in private. Once he's gone, Warren confronts Frank about the affair and everything that's happened. He then assaults Frank.
Peter and Rose arrive at the game and head to the locker room. They find Frank beat up and handcuffed to the bench. Peter starts pursuing Warren, but loses him in the streets.
Ethan's mother Patricia finds Frank, Rose, and Peter in the locker room. Peter tells her the truth about his identity and Patricia is frantic over her missing son. Rose helps calm her down as Peter asks her about any emergency extraction points that Warren talked about. Rose shows her a map and Patricia identifies an old motel in the middle of Farmingdale on Long Island. A small airport is near there and Peter remembers Warren is a pilot. He tells the couple to call the police and go home in case Ethan returns.
Noor walks the streets of New York and removes hijab so she blends in with the other pedestrians. She pauses to admire a pint of strawberries. She spots a man watching her and walks to a nearby abandoned warehouse, where she meets up with the same man. He's a CIA agent that she's hoping to sell Iranian intel to in exchange for her and her family's asylum in America. He tells her the documents are worthless because they already know about the drone program. he knows what will happen if she's caught, but her information isn't valuable. She has a week to get her brother out of Iran and can't defect or her family will face retaliation. He tells her to earn their help and only contact him if she finds something worthwhile. She tells him about a rumor of the Ambassador consorting with an American intelligence officer. He tells her to find proof.
Catherine arrives at the locker room of the basketball game where Frank is receiving treatment from the paramedics. Patricia asks her if David and Rose have found Warren yet. This is news to Catherine.
Warren and Ethan arrive at the airport, where Warren is frantic to get them somewhere safe. He lashes out about "David" using Ethan to get to him. Ethan doesn't want to leave without his mom. Warren promises to explain everything when they escape, with a plan to start over. Rose runs into the garage shouting for help as her friend fell on the runway. Warren comes to her aid and Peter attacks him from behind. During the struggle, Rose gets Ethan away while Peter continues to fight Warren, ultimately choking him unconscious.
Peter arrests Warren and explains to a confused Ethan that he's arresting his father for doing some bad things. Warren tells his son they're lying. Rose inadvertently exposes Peter's real name. He sympathizes with Ethan because of his past, reminding the boy he doesn't deserve any of this. A taxi arrives and Rose gets Ethan inside safely. Peter stops him to talk, promising to Ethan that Warren is going to be okay. He then apologizes to Rose for getting her caught up in everything. She's asks him to never stop being the real Peter - everything in the van and apartment isn't the real him. He promises to find her and explain everything. She plans to fly back to California after dropping Ethan off. He gives her a safer route to get home. They hug goodbye and she gets in the taxi with Ethan.
Noor cleans up some plates before going to the Ambassador's office. She looks through his drawers but doesn't find anything. She starts logging into the computer when Javad enters, so she pretends to be cleaning up. He asks about her position as a junior aide - she's trying to make a good impression. They introduce themselves properly. He's seen her around and asks where her family is from, both happy to learn they both are from Isfahan. He admits to missing home and the food more than he expected. He offers to walk her back to the residences, insisting it's not always safe to walk alone at night. She accepts his offer.
Warren asks Peter if he'll ever see Ethan again. Peter chooses not to answer.
Catherine answers a call from Director Gedney of the CIA Deputy and Director Mosley of the FBI. She muses what the two agencies are cooking up. The President asked them to inform Catherine of a tip the CIA received. A developing asset in New York approached on of Gedeney's agents about an intelligence leak in which the Iranians may have come into possession of classified information. They think it could be related to her case and Warren Stocker, who may have returned to the States to sell information. POTUS wants to bring Night Action into it.
Javad walks Noor to her residences as she tells him to avoid Times Square, instead directing him to the bodegas. She thanks him for walking her back and he hopes that, during lunch, she can show him the Persian food the city has to offer. She politely says she works through lunch which he understands. Before leaving, he tells her she's not just an aide, as her work is important. He's sure her family is proud of her.
Rose drops Ethan off at his house. She tells him parents can make mistakes but still love their children. She watches him reunite with his mother, then instructs the taxi to follow Peter's directions. Catherine follows the taxi.
Noor video chats with her mother Azita, who worries for her well-being. Noor happily shows her a pint of strawberries that she purchased for much cheaper than back home. She wishes her mom was with her. Her brother Farhad comes to talk for a few moments. He misses having someone else to help do the chores, and they laugh. She wants him to visit her, to which he remarks "someday".
Peter sets Warren up in a chair and tells him about Sutherland Sr. betraying the country. He's not sure why his father did the thigns he did, but he did regret it. Before her died, he did the right thing. Peter understands sacrificing everything for a family, even admiring it. He might be able to forgive his father if that's what he did. He's not sure if Warren will ever see Ethan again. He's not going to torture Warren or kill him. He will give Warren to the FBI and rewrite the narrative to tell Ethan something different. Peter offers him the chance to explain things to Ethan through him, so Ethan can understand Warren has a good side. Warren pauses then tells him about the mysterious Arthur that he met - a middle-man. He didn't know who Arthur was working with or who the other man in Bangkok is. Peter asks who the mole in Night Action is, but Warren has no idea what any of that is. He worked alone to get Ethan away from Patricia and the "asshole" Frank. He begged Patricia to go overseas with him with Ethan, but she refused because she couldn't pull Ethan out of school. She then had an affair with Frank, left Warren, and got custody of Ethan. Peter cuts him off to ask about the intel he's selling. It's about a covert military program initiated at the behest of the CIA. It was theoretical information and the program, Project Foxglove, was shuttered ears ago. It dealt with experimental weapons that were mostly chemical. Before he can finish, a sniper kills him. Peter, shaken, runs to cover. Warren's phone rings from across the room.
Rose arrives at the bus station just as Vega pulls up to watch her.
Peter makes a brazen move for the still-ringing phone and answers it.
