[change | change source]

When the band formed in 2011 they were originally a trio known as Triple J, consisting of Cuthbert, Hamblett and Hensley. In 2012, the band auditioned for the ninth series [en] of The X Factor where they met Shelley who at the judges' request joined the band, they were eliminated in the Semi-Final and were subsequently signed to Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records.[1] The band's debut studio album, Union J [en], was released in October 2013 and peaked at number six on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the Irish Albums Chart, the album also charted in Belgium and Portugal. The album includes the singles "Carry You [en]", "Beautiful Life [en]" and "Loving You Is Easy".

2014: You Got It All – The Album

[change | change source]

In April 2014, the band left RCA Records and signed with Epic Records.[2] Their second studio album, You Got It All – The Album [en], was released in December 2014 and peaked at number twenty-eight on the UK Albums Chart and includes the singles "Tonight (We Live Forever) [en]" and "You Got It All [en]".

[change | change source]

In March 2016 Shelley left the group.[3] In May 2016, Casey Johnson was announced as the newest member of the band, continuing as a four-piece band.[4] However in April 2017, Johnson was dropped from the band.[5] In October 2018 Cuthbert left the group leaving the band as duo.[6] In July 2019 the band released an EP Who Would've Thought, which includes the singles "Alive", "Dancing" and "Paralysed", the EP was originally planned to be a studio album which was recorded in May 2016. The band (JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley) then disbanded.

2022–2023: Ten

[change | change source]

In January 2022 Union J confirmed they would be reuniting to celebrate the bands tenth anniversary with Shelley and Cuthbert rejoining the group who respectively left in 2016 and 2018. In December 2022, they released their third studio, Ten, but the album failed to chart on the UK Albums Chart. In April 2023, Hensley announced his departure from the band.[7] The group later disbanded for a second time.
