NHL 22 is an ice hockey video game. It was published by EA Sports and was developed by EA Vancouver.[1] It is the 31st game in the NHL series.
It was released worldwide on October 15, 2021. It was released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.[2]
The game introduced Superstar X-Factors which help boost certain players attributes and give them different abilities. New gameplay animations were also added which include reverse hits when a player attempts to hit another player, as well as, improving goaltender and other animations. NHL 22 also saw the debut of the Seattle Kraken, who had joined the league that season. Downloadable community made rosters were also made available to download for the first time in the series.[3] For international teams, NHL 22 introduced women's national ice hockey teams to the series.[4] EA also decided to remove both the Russia and Belarus national teams because of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.[5] It is the first game in the series to use the Frostbite 3 engine.
On August 19, 2021, it was announced that Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs was chosen as the cover athlete for NHL 22. It was the second time that Ovechkin was chosen to be on the cover, who was on the cover of NHL 07.[6]
