John Chaloner Alabaster (11 July 1930 – 9 April 2024) was a New Zealand cricketer who was born in Invercargill. He was a right arm leg break and googly bowler who batted right-handed. Alabaster played in first-class cricket for Otago from 1956/57 until 1971/72. In international cricket, he played for New Zealand in 21 Test matches from 1955 to 1972.[1]
Alabaster's final Test in March 1972 was against the West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain. The match ended in a draw. Alabaster bowled in both of the West Indies innings. In the first, his figures were 0/49. In the second innings, he took 1/5 from only four overs, and the last wicket he took in Test cricket was that of Gary Sobers, bowled for 9.[2]
Jack Alabaster died in Cromwell, Otago, aged 93.[1]
