Big Mamma is a French restaurant company that specializes in Italian cuisine. It was established in 2015 in Paris by entrepreneurs Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux.
History
[change | change source]Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux met at the business school HEC Paris. They founded "Big Mamma Group" in 2015 with funding from private investors, including Xavier Niel and Stéphane Courbit.[1]
Between 2015 and 2018, the group opened seven restaurants. The company initially operated without a reservation system, which led to queues of customers at restaurant entrances. In 2018, the group opened La Felicità at the Station F campus in Paris. This location is a 4,500-square-meter food market with seven different kitchens.[2]
In 2019, the group expanded outside of France, opening restaurants in London. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the group launched "Napoli Gang," a delivery-only service.[3]
In September 2023, the British investment firm McWin Capital Partners purchased a majority stake in the company. The founders remained as co-CEOs and kept a minority share.[4]
Business operations
[change | change source]The group sources products from approximately 180 producers in Italy. As of 2022, the company employed approximately 2,000 people.[5] Most of the kitchen and floor staff are Italian. The company is a certified B-corp, indicating that it meets specific social and environmental standards. The group currently operates 28 restaurants in several European countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Monaco, and Italy. Several cookbooks have been published under the Big Mamma name by publishers such as Phaidon Press and Marabout.
