Synopsis

This was a ground breaking show that presented a hopeful future in a socially and politically turbulent time. Now, when the world is going backwards as fast as it can paddle, the Trek Universe is a great place to hang out and maintain that spark of hope.

It's The Mother Ship of Science Fiction! There were other Science Fiction television shows that definitely has their place in this genre, But StarTrek goes to space and beyond in It's storylines, beginning with the diversity of the cast...Thank you Mr. Gene Roddenbery and Ms. Lucille Ball !

It was a great episode. One of my favorites as a kid. Initially, I felt bad for the Horta, but over the years I've watched it many times and while I still feel for the Horta I've learned how important it is to see things from the perspective of others when you have disagreements.

I'm a big sci-fi fan, all types from old school to new/modern/C.G.I'd to death but I think Star Trek was, is & always will be my favorite. I loved watching Shatner as Kirk when I was a little kid. Over acting, cheesy maybe - whatever. Kirk is the man!

A brilliant episode that is rarely mentioned is "Let this be your Last Battlefield." It was a direct commentary on race relations. Frank Gorshin was brilliant, as always, and the stories ending was heartbreaking. That anger and racism couldn't be overcome even in the face of total destruction.

This series is arguably the greatest television series of all time. I have never seen chemistry from actors quite like this. So many inventions have been develop because of this series. The only reason why it doesn't get a ten out of ten in my opinion, is because of the slight racial undertones that the franchise has developed over the years. Live long and prosper. To me, City on the Edge of Forever is one of the top three best episodes, if not the best. Literally the choice between two possible futures hinging on the fate of one person. What is not mentioned is how much Harlan Ellison hated the revised script. I've read the original and it was grim and gritty and absolutely unsuitable as a STOS story. At a Harlan Ellison book signing, I was there when a fan brought a glossy print of Kirk and Spock in front of the Guardian of Forever. Ellison inscribed it with "two fools and a donut". I don't remember what the fan said. It can either be considered a very unique momento or a disfigured photo he probably had paid at least 5 dollars for when 5 dollars was a lot of money. Ellison was quite an ascerbic character. He certainly kept the Hugo award for best dramatic performance even though it was only his story in outline.

Personally I believe Kirk and Picard are a tie. Janeway never had to mess with the politics of starfleet and still manage to cheat death. Pike hasn't been around long enough. I think he will move up in the ranking. Being Siskin was like running a bar and keeping crime at bay. Burnham is probably in the right spot.

As a child born in "62", I was just to young to watch TOS at it's creation, but, I watch it in the 70's right after Boy Scouts. Spock, the "Logical, flawed, Deeply Loyal, Valcan, was all our B.S. Group idealized him.
A great loss to the culture. A great Icon.
RIP Mr Spock, "You Are Releaved."

By far, as quoted "Where No Man Has Gone Before" by William Shatner and the Creator, Gene Rodenberry has a Sci-Fi series had such an impact on millions of people and ideas that truly gave us humans to see the future and actually live in the world where many of the inventions have become everyday aspects of our lives !!!!

Not sure of the episode title, but the crew of the Enterprise winds up in the 1920s gangster era. Spock in a zoot suit was to die for, and his discomfort with the slang…! It’s my favorite episode. And Joan Collins was so young.

I use to love watch Star Trek every week. It gives me the thrill to think beyond space using my imagination. Today I am very thrilled about the episodes that I am watching with Star Trek. I love it's original version. I am hoping that they don't take it off the TV. It is one of the best mankind show on earth. Better than the other ones, such as Star Trek Votager.

I thoroughly disagree with this ranking. Jean Luc Picard was a supercillious snob. The best was J T Kirk. Michael Burnham is up there and Catherine Janeway . But Scott Bakula dud a great job. Sorry just saying.

Guys, although "The Devil In The Dark" is an engaging episode, and the first time the Vulcan Mind Meld was introduced, it suffers from one major flaw--The Horta looks like a bad costume with a person crawling around on the floor beneath it.
