RYE WINDMILL B&B

Rye’s white smock windmill is a grade II listed building and one of its most famous landmarks. Tucked away in one of England’s quaintest coastal towns, our welcoming Bed and Breakfast is ideally located with the High Street and the Strand Quay just a short stroll away. As well as its medieval charms Rye offers stylish shopping, cosy pubs and contemporary restaurants, it is also surrounded by beautiful countryside and beaches with plenty of opportunity to breathe in the sea air and revitalise yourself.

Rye Windmill B&B offers guests excellent accommodation and hospitality, with a licensed honesty bar and cosy lounge, in a peaceful location on the banks of the River Tillingham. A windmill has stood on this site for over 450 years and original features can be found throughout the B&B. Your breakfast will be served in the windmill base and old granary and cooked to order using quality and local ingredients, we also have guaranteed free car parking for all our guests.

WHAT SOME OF OUR GUESTS SAY

  • 5 star ratingFriendly, attentive and high quality hospitality done right. Wouldn’t change a thing. It is very easy to do hospitality badly or to misfire on enthusiasm, friendliness, attentiveness, availability and abundance. The rye windmill hits the right mark at every turn.

The owners are friendly without being corny, attentive but also discreet, engaged but not overbearing, generous without wastage (choose your own jam buffet at breakfast is inspire!), detail focussed without being self important. It’s a masterclass in hospitality and we had just the most glorious weekend.

We cannot recommend this b&b enough. Sustainability is threaded through the venue without being ‘in your face’ (fresh milk in bottles, motion activated corridor lights, ev charging for guests) and the self service bar was a highlight for my husband too.

We stayed in the windmill room itself for which you pay a entirely justifiable premium. The staircase up to the loo is very tight as you’d expect so don’t recommend it for anyone who wakes in the night too many times as it’s a bit of a schlep if you need it in the dark. But that’s a personal preference.

The room was spacious, luxurious but also homely without being twee.

Breakfast was generous but not wasteful, and lovely variety for a few mornings’ feasts. Totally wonderful. Thank you for making our stay so joyful.

  • 5 star ratingWonderful Stay With Lovely Hosts My daughter and I had a wonderful 2-night stay at the Rye Windmill. The bedroom was charming, good bathroom, and a great location just a short walk into the town. Breakfast was good quality, well cooked and plentiful and my vegan daughter really appreciated the vegan foods available at breakfast. There was a lovely, cosy lounge with a wood-effect stove which we spent a peaceful couple of hours in on a rainy afternoon, and there is a well-stocked honesty bar. We liked the nice extras like a chocolate bar in the room, complimentary water in refillable bottles and sweets in the lobby. Our hosts Toby and Kathryn were absolutely lovely, welcoming, friendly and helpful. Rye is a lovely town, full of independent shops and restaurants. We would thoroughly recommend the Windmill and will definitely be back.

  • 5 star ratingRye Windmill is a rare and special experience Absolutely amazing experience and cannot recommend this establishment enough. We felt that the location, hosts, quality and comfort of our room, facilities and breakfast was excellent and 10/10. The windmill is so picturesque and only a stone’s throw from the town centre. Car parking is also convenient and reliable Wi-Fi.
