Meet Richard

Richard Lamondin is 38 years old. He has a four-year-old son, aging parents he supports, a mortgage in a state where insurance has nearly tripled, and hundreds of employees depending on him every two weeks. He is not running away from those challenges. He is running for office because of them — and because too many families in this district are living the same story without anyone in Tallahassee fighting for them.

A Better Florida Starts Here

Four Freedoms. One Choice.

Right now in Florida, the basics feel impossible. Preschool costs as much as rent. Insurance premiums have nearly tripled. A million people still don’t have health coverage. Our public schools are being systematically defunded.

These aren’t accidents. They are the result of thirty years of choices made by people who will never feel them.

Richard built a company from the ground up lowering costs for families and businesses across the country. Now he’s running for Florida State Senate because this community deserves a leader with actual skin in the game — and Miami now has a choice.

Richard’s full policy agenda is coming soon. In the meantime, learn more about Richard and what he’s fighting for.

Freedom to Be Healthy

Too many Miami families are one illness or one prescription away from financial disaster.
Richard believes health care is a right, not a privilege. And that no one should lose sleep wondering how to pay a hospital bill.

In Congress, he’ll work across the aisle to guarantee affordable, high-quality coverage with real choice — protecting the right of anyone who likes their current plan to keep it, while ensuring every family has access to an affordable public option that lowers costs for everyone. He’ll champion legislation to cap out-of-pocket expenses, expand mental-health services, and take on drug companies that keep prices high while posting record profits.

Because in the richest country on earth, no one should go bankrupt just to see a doctor or fill a prescription.

Freedom to Raise a Family

Every parent knows the cost of child care has become unmanageable — and every study shows that early education changes lives. As a dad of a three-year-old, Richard has seen firsthand how broken and expensive the system is. In Miami, child care often costs as much as rent, and he feels that strain just like so many other families do.

His first legislative priority will be to build bipartisan support for affordable, accessible pre-K and child care for every family, raising early-education pay, expanding hours for parents who work nights, and treating early learning like the essential service it is.

Because when every child gets a fair start, every family gets a fair shot.

Freedom to Afford a Home

Miami has become the most rent-burdened county in the nation, and young people, families, and seniors are being priced out of the communities they built and have called home their whole lives. Richard believes housing isn’t just about real estate, it’s about dignity, stability, and the ability to put down roots and build generational opportunity.

In Congress, he’ll work to treat housing as critical infrastructure, just like roads and bridges, so federal dollars flow faster to projects that expand supply and lower costs. He’ll collaborate across the aisle to reduce red tape at HUD, improve the Housing Choice Voucher program, expand first time home buyer tax credits, and restore federal funding for flood-mitigation and resilience projects that protect homeowners and lower insurance costs.

Because if our hospitality workers, teachers, and first responders can’t afford to live here, we don’t have a community — we have a crisis.

Freedom from Corruption

After a lifetime of work, every American deserves peace of mind. The freedom to retire without fear of losing their savings or health care. For every senior in Miami, Social Security and Medicare aren’t handouts — they’re earned promises that must be protected and strengthened.

In Congress, Richard will work to preserve and strengthen Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, ensuring they remain fully funded and off the chopping block. He’ll support measures to protect seniors from skyrocketing prescription-drug prices, safeguard pensions, and expand home- and community-based care so older Americans can age safely and comfortably in their homes.

Because the measure of a country isn’t how it treats its wealthiest, it’s how it honors those who’ve worked a lifetime to build it.

SD-38 is the number one Democratic state target seat in Florida — and the race that begins to break the corruption that has controlled Tallahassee for far too long. Richard is running against a well-funded incumbent backed by special interests who have kept that majority in place.
