It should be possible to write an optional edit summary natively, without a drop down and without having to rely on user scripts. Sometimes, a user makes an edit that seems questionable at first sight, but might be entirely justified. If the user has the possibility to explain themselves, this could avoid some unnecessary discussions, or on the other hand provide a proper starting point for a discussion, in case of genuine disagreement.

Should I open a new ticket? It may be something very simple, but I am just not seeing it

@AkashKr_282 thanks! This one might need a bit of working with the community to figure out the details!
Hi,I would like to work on this task
Another request for this feature at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Forum#Idea_for_a_new_feature:_notification_when_Wikimedia_Commons_files_are_used_on_Wikipedia_pages
I'm not entirely sure what to do with task but the integration is clearly not over, there is still a lot of things to do and improve.
Is this task still actionable in any way or should we close it?
(1) We have QuickStatements to add staements to Wikidata and Commons; (2) the description of task is too vague to work on.

I just had a need for an edit summary again. I made these edits because importing the unranked data was causing an error on Wikipedia. I would have been happy to explain my edit, but there was no way to do so. I was reverted by someone who didn't understand why I made the edit, and the only way to provide an edit summary was to revert.
