Yeah, but there's a gap in crucial information. Autism is neurodevelopmental and your doc is right that it begins early and cannot just suddenly appear in adulthood. If you truly want a diagnosis, see someone else, if this person dissatisfies you.

OP refuses to give examples of any issues they faced, so how the doctors are supposed to attribute the mysterious issues they face to a condition?

I'm from Eastern Europe. I haven't seen how it was handled in the USA, but I know for a fact that autism was literally equal to schizophrenia here in those times. In my home country, the adult ASD diagnosis was only legalised in 2015. Not 2005, not 1995, 2015, barely a decade ago.

I'm the woman you're talking about. I have almost been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in the psych ward, because they didn't see the ASD. They last minute decided that it's schizoaffective.

I got my ASD diagnosis at 20, because I said fuck you to those "doctors" and went to the best neurodivergence specialist in my country. I have other medical conditions that were brushed off for YEARS as well. JUST BECAUSE SOME ISSUES ARE MISSED, DOESN'T MEAN THEY AREN'T PRESENT. If you don't have any issues, where's the disorder?

That's possible, yeah, but rather rare. During my ASD assessment, I mentioned more things about myself than my mother did. Psychiatrists see more than words, too. But with ZERO history it is nearly impossible. If you parents didn't say anything, you probably said something about yourself.

It's a DEVELOPMENTAL disorder, how do you expect to get a diagnosis without showing history of DEVELOPMENTAL delays of some sort, even if in a lot of cases it's only social? You're born with autism and most people start showing symptoms at 2-3 y/o. How do you expect them to guess randomly, whether you had any traits at that age or not?

Then, how willing are you to seek mental health help? Is it possible for you to find a LGBT friendly counsellor? Would you trust someone with this? Lesbianism is a part of who you are, you'll have to make peace with it eventually, otherwise life will be more and more hell.
