Stopped by the Police in Tokyo 3 times in one week by Easy_Agency_635 in japanlife

You make a very good point, that's a good idea imo. I've been stopped a few times in Tokyo and haven't thought of filing a complaint.

What's the alternative, O bootlicker? Smile and say "sorry officer I'll try to be less foreign in the future"?

Make sure you tell each officer "I've been stopped for no reason multiple times recently, I'm not happy that it keeps happening". Don't get into an argument, but plainly state your frustration.

why do chinese people talk so loud? by [deleted] in UnfilteredChina

[–]ClemFandango6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely regardless of nationality, if I'm given a choice of being classmates with loud, rude assholes who can't keep quiet and bother everyone around them vs quiet assholes who hate everyone around them in silence... I know who I'd pick.

The comment says nothing about xenophobia, about the beliefs of either group as representatives of their home countries, or about the nuances of their respecitve socities; you yourself have read into that.

What the comment does talk about is simply the outward conduct displayed and the level of consideration for others. Amongst the (granted, small sample size of) Chinese people they came into contact with this was very poor, whilst in the Japanese people it was very good.

Anyone else get tired of deciding what to do in Japan every day? by Little-Actuator-1594 in JapanTravelTips

Also sack off TikTok please, that app is coded on purpose to stress you out. I seriously want people to stop using it to plan their Japan trips.

3rd time visiting Osaka. I've done the "Golden Route" (Namba/Umeda/Castle) to death. Looking for hidden gems or local favorites! by noarty- in JapanTravelTips

Yeah I think you'll be fine! Google translate has a good camera scanning function, and if you're savvy with it I'm sure you could order with google translate too. More and more places are taking orders by QR code now as well. Places in Tenma are easy to walk in without a reservation so you can stroll around, poke your head inside a few, hold up how many people on your fingers and ask "English menu?" until you get seated. Have a look at a few places on google maps to see what the vibe is too.

Trip to Lake Biwa from Kyoto/Osaka by Lower-Mention-4501 in japanlife

[–]ClemFandango6000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well worth it! Only 9 minutes by train from Kyoto Station to Otsu Station! Rent some bikes at the tourist information and cycle around the south and south-east parts of the lake for the day. Stop at lots of cafes and restaurants or have a picnic at the lakeside parks.

Japan-based YouTube channels…? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

Japanalysis is really good for deep dives into what's going on on the Japanese internet/media.

Tanner is great for (train) travel videos and exploring hidden spots in a slow way - he's often sponsored by JR and prefectures to visit places which is cool.
