Hey now
Hey, I’m a guy that watches a lot of anime, and I really like this site because it allows me to keep track of it all, what a great thing it is lol. You may see me in discussion threads of seasonal anime spanning from Fall 2020 to whenever you’re reading this, with the occasional older anime I type up posts for. I write posts for fun and also to have my thoughts written down, but if you happen upon one of them and give it a read, it’s very much appreciated, and don’t be shy to reply to them because I love interacting with folks!
I generally rate a lot of anime kinda highly, I’ve only given a handful of low scores ranging 6 or below because I typically watch things I think I’ll like, and I usually end up liking them lol. My favorite genres of anime are RomComs and SoLs, and I also have a soft spot for Harems due to my upbringing with anime, a big example being “To Love-Ru” which was pretty much what got me into anime, so if you ever see me gushing over a harem series that otherwise is getting trashed on, this is why lol. But I’ve expanded my tastes a lot over the years so I can watch and enjoy most genres, and there’s a good amount of Isekais and Shonens I’ve found myself loving, so yeah I like a lot of different anime.
You might also catch me making music references in my forum posts, especially jam bands, I enjoy trying to find ways to squeeze them in somewhere, any excuse to express my love for them lol.
Also finally decided to plug this after so long, here’s my YouTube channel which atm has nothing to do with anime and is mostly a gaming channel: https://youtube.com/@DirtsteveGAME

That's such a shame about **Hell Teacher Nube**. 😭 It's always disappointing when you hear an amazing OST in a show, go looking for it afterward, and then realize it was never officially released. There have definitely been a few tracks over the years that I wish I could add to my playlists too.
And that's actually a pretty good comparison! 😄 I enjoyed **Reign of the Seven Spellblades** as well, but **Witch Hat Atelier** leans a lot more into the sense of discovery and wonder. The magic system is one of the coolest I've seen in a long time, and the world just feels so carefully thought out. I can definitely see why people have been hyping it up for years now.
LOL I know exactly what you mean about source reader hype though. 😂 Sometimes they'll tell you *every* new season is going to be "the best arc in the series," and after hearing it enough times you become a little skeptical. Then every once in a while a series like Witch Hat comes along where you finish it and think, "...okay, they were actually right this time." 😭

don't hesitate to give me feedback!!
Isekai I really enjoy but sometimes Im lazy to start one haha
And yes, that's such a good example with **Hellsing**. I think a great soundtrack can elevate a series so much. Even if a show has flaws, the right music can completely define its atmosphere and make certain moments stick with you. Some of my favorite anime memories are tied directly to hearing a specific track again.
I agree with you on horror too. 😄 I don't necessarily need an anime to actually scare me because that's really hard to do. If it can create a creepy atmosphere, interesting mystery, or just that unsettling feeling, I'm usually happy. Sometimes the vibe matters more than jump scares or anything like that.
And YES I definitely recommend **Witch Hat Atelier**. 😂 The easiest way I can describe it is that it captures that feeling of wonder and curiosity really well. The world feels magical, but it also has enough mystery and darker elements underneath to keep you interested. Plus the art is absolutely beautiful.
It's one of those series where I finished and immediately understood why manga readers were hyping it up for so long. 😭
And honestly, I completely understand what you mean about manga vs anime. 😄 They each have their own strengths. Manga art can be absolutely incredible, and sometimes seeing the original creator's drawings adds a lot to the experience, but anime brings so much through voice acting, music, animation, and directing.
A great OST especially can completely change how a scene feels. There are moments from anime that stick with me forever because of the music. 😭
Dark Gathering was such a pleasant surprise too! I feel like horror is really hard to pull off in anime, but it had such a fun atmosphere and kept getting better as it went. I'm really curious to see what Season 2 covers.
And I get that approach too. 😂 Honestly, having endless anime available is probably what saves a lot of people from immediately jumping into manga. By the time one show ends, there are already five more waiting.
For me it really depends on how invested I am. Most shows I can wait, but every once in a while something like Witch Hat Atelier comes along where I finish and immediately think "yeah... I'm not waiting years for this." 😂
Hopefully Komi and Nagatoro get another season someday though! Even if you end up reading them, it's always fun seeing your favorite moments eventually animated.
I wanted to add you since I saw you were a Urusei Yatsura fan which I recently got really into.
It’s nice to meet another fan :)
I had extremely low expectations to not get disappointed, but still got disappointed, even I didn't expect that
Rent a girlfriend is manga though and the most popular romance manga from what I heard... so no surprise it's getting adaptations. Novels notoriously dont get a lot of adaptations, unless the title is really popular like overlord, slime, classroom of the elite, re:zero is in a different league, no point in mentioning it. Also mangas are easier to adapt. Speaking of which, I thought about this while reading hell mode, "damn its gonna be hard af to adapt". Basically the whole novel is like 90% summary, it feels like reading a summary written on wiki. I really hate it lol, like I wanna see dialogues, charcater reactions, that's what makes it a story lol. So I have no idea how to adapt it, because as the anime you have to include dialogues where there were none, to present it in a more interesting and exciting way. Basically its a lot of work. I've read some other novels, it had lots of dilogues, interactions, character reactions and all that, like skeleton knight, but then they just butchered the adaptation and did their own thing. Meanwhile hellmode anime, was amazing, somehow they made it better than the novel.
So from what I learned, writing of the novel makes no difference on how good the adaptation would be.
you are liking season 2 of re:zero more than season 1? season 2 is imo the weakest point, its important point to the story of course, all the development and progression, but I didnt like how it came to be, execution basically. But I am not surprised if you or anyone else liked season 2 more, its more of opinion than objective truth.
Betelgeuse was great, but I liked the anone guy more lol. But they were all piece of shits lol, but thats what makes it good. Betelgeuse became insane probably because of his incompatability with the sin sloth. He was the most dilligent person before that.
Glad you liked it, wasn't really a surprise that you did. If you wanna surprise me, tell me that you didn't like something lol.
Not sure what to ask, I feel like to ask something you gotta be into it, I like it, but I've been so out of it, that my heart isn't in it, if you know what I mean. For example if you wathed ishura today, I might have a few questions, but apart from that I won't ask much. It'd be different if you mentioned a bunch of things, then it'd be easier to partially get back into it. But it's all good, I also don't always want to share something I watched. Speaking of which, I had plenty to say about the last season, but now that it's over, I am kinda over it lol. Maybe i'll still include a short sentence or two about each anime I've watched, in case you are interested in my opinion or that anime. But considering how I didn't like most things, I wonder how helpful that'd be.
"Roll over and Die" huh, since it's been a while I'm gonna summarize it again. Basically grail of eris and roll over and die were 2 novels I was interested reading after I watched the first episode, they instantly struck me as interesting, and while I wasn't wrong in both of them. Roll over and die fell flat on its feet in the 2nd volume, like so many bad decisions. It's kinda annoying, I was very involved in it and had a good picture of the world in my mind, but then one bad decision after another ruined the story into something that can't be saved. I thought volume 1 was quite solid too, volume 2 was painful to read, so obviously if volume1 of anime was terrible as an adaptation, volume2 which I hated, would be something like worst anime of all time territory. They did so many weird decisions in the adaptation, like I mentioned, a character that should've been healed in the beginning of volume 2, for some reason is healed way later. Or a character that should appear way earlier, appears way later, and the scene that should have her included, doesn't have her included. And then there were several additions, like characters appear that haven't appeared, I assume that character is from volume 3, cause I haven't seen her in volume 2. Why do that? I dont know.
The sad part, is that I have no motivation in reading further, which sucks because of how invested I was in it. But apart from bad story and bad decisions, the writing is also very hard. It's not even the overcomplicated words or sentences, but more like overcomplicated descriptions. It wasn't enjoyable to read and I needed to really concentrate to follow and imagine the scenes in my head. But then things like Hellmode is too easy to read with no complications. I want something in between lol. But you can still follow the story and analyze it even if you dont like the writing. Not every novel is gonna be skeleton knight, which in my opinion is the best feels good to read that I've seen, when it comes to writing.
You know the worst part about it? I started reading Grail of Eris first and really liked it and paused it to read Roll Over and die, and it took up to 10 weeks to come back to it. Then I started reading hellmode and start to dislike it as well...Meanwhilw I never disliked Grail of Eris and knowing how the anime ends, I know I won't be disappointed. It's very solid actually, I think the anime, while skipping a lot of things and cramming 3 volumes in 12 episodes, which I hate. The story still was pretty fleshed out and well done. So even anime-only would enjoy it. I'm gonna reference Grail of Eris many times in the future, so be prepared lol. Doesn't mean that I liked everything, and its not of ishura level where I liked everything. At least there are no major fuckups or decisions that author made that ruined the story.
I gave the anime 8/10 I think. Which is fair, if I wanna give 9 to novel, which is a superior version. But even without novel, I'd still only give it 8. I wanted to continue it for sure, but since Hellmode season 2 is airing this season, I felt obligated to read that...
Good to know you liked kaya-chan too, and just like you, horror doesnt really get me. I managed to watch episode on the same day it came out, so it was something of an accomplishment as well... One problem with it, is that I feel like anime resolved everything, and I have no further interest in it... I wonder if the story is over or if there is something beyond it. I wish anime gave me something... anything, didn't have to be a cliffhanger.
Yeah, Polar Opposites feels too overated, but its not bad, but definitely not my cup of tea. In general these new romance style, I don't like... polar opposites, the ramparts of ice, all other romances that aired this season. Or maybe I'm just past that age... I dont think I'll be picking up that many romcoms in the future.
"Oh you're liking Scum of the Brave huh? I'll have to get to it sometime too, it's too bad my hands are full with anime rn lol." this comment didnt age well haha. Just finished it a week ago when the final episode rolled around, it's a 2 cour. I was massively disappointed lol. I think it was pretty bad, especially with character deaths. Some characters appeared in the opening looking all important, but then they just got oneshotted and actually died, I was like what. No way that's the same person who made Sentenced to be a hero. Like author skill is different, I could also be wrong lol. At least it wasn't painful to watch and I had some interest, but it definitely wasn't good.
"If anything it's getting better." I agree, it just seems like the hype from episode 1 has dissipated a bit as we've went on, I'm still really enjoying it tho (Sentenced to be a Hero that is, just in case you forgot what show we were talking about here lol)."
I actually forgot, it's been 5 months lol. Yeah, final episode was amazing, my biggest pet peeve is how uniniteresting fights are. Feels very easy for protagonists. If that's the same person that wrote Scum of the Brave, I assume it won't change, and no matter how big the hype would be for upcoming fights, it would be resolved very simply and easily.
For this season, or the one that just ended. I've watched around 30 animes, it was very crowded. 3 animes of monday, 6 animes on tuesday, 3 on wednesday, 5 on thursday, 2 on friday(easy day), 6? I think on saturday, 5 on sunday.
The best day I guess is monday, since all 3 animes were good. Liar game, ponska, witch hat one. But the thing is, I was only caught up on liar game, not the other 2, so technically I was only watching 1 anime on monday.
The worst day is probably friday, cause its 2 animes that I really disliked. Drops of god and the villainess one that I dont even remember the name of. Oh boy I really hated it, it was very painful to watch, I gave it like a 3 lol.
Tuesday was entertaining, but 6 animes is very hard to watch in 1 day so I was burned out very quickly.
Soutpaw Eren - 7/10. Was probably my 2nd favorite, but in general its my favorite of Tuesday, given how consistently entertained I was, there were some bad moments, some good moments, the usual. But overall pretty entertaining and I was looking forward to the next episode. Considering how bad/inconsistent others were, this takes the top. Its prety underated. I'd recommend it. It's more of a real life story though, in more ways than one it was pretty realistic. It's also about society and toxic workspace.
Love game -8/10. This one is very unusual, and I have very few experiences like this one. Basically I didnt even wanna start it, cause the premise sounds dumb and I remember reading first chapter and not liking it. Kinda randomly started it, knowing I'd hate it, and I was hating it btw, but around ep 8 or so, it got kinda nice. Now that the anime is over, the premise makes sense, cause they are both very insecure people with 0 confidence, they think very little of themselves and knew they'd be rejected. I'd watch second season if it comes out. Highly recommend
Even Replica falls in love - 7/10. The score is low because I heard they adapted 5 volumes in 13 episodes, it's lucky I didnt give it a 1/10 lol. Overall I think it did a good job, good story, with a solid plan, pretty unusual too. Nice to watch. I'd say I recommend
Second prettiest girl - 7/10. Way too idealistic, wish-fullfilment. Just so happened that a pretty gold got interested in him and fell in love lol and then became a perfect girlfriend, yeah sure bro. Then it had lots of cringe moments as well. By the end of the season I started disliking it. Then I really disliked the MC. Don't like the new style of romances... For you, I'd say recommended knowing you'd like it, in general I wouldn't recommend it
Marriagetoxin - 6/10. overrated. So I had 2 major issues, first a never ending premise. While looking for a marriage partner is fine in itself, the problem is, it might never end. I realized it at the very end, when we seemingly got the perfect partner, they have a mutual love, well at least she loves him. But ofcourse they cant get together, because that would mean the anime ends, and the whole premise is looknig for marriage partners. So ofcourse they can't be together, we'll make some bullshit reason of "I need to become a better person before we get together". But then every girl can make the same stupid reason. That's why I said its a never ending premise. I really really hate it. Its kinda same in the love game, it can also go on forever lol.
The other problem, very major, is action scenes. Like nothing makes sense, just tons of lazy writing. I was reading comments to see if anyone pointed that out, but noone did lol.don't recommend
https://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=61931 4/10. Just like s1, it was beyond terrible and painful to watch, thank god its over.don't recommend
Wednesday
Dorohedoro s2 9/10. that season was absolute fire. Insane how good it was lol, I am still surprised. I watched season 1 shortly before s2 btw, didnt even know of its existence before that. Very satisfied in general. It ended a month earlier than everyone else, so I even forgot I watched it on wednesday.
Always a catch 7/10. First episodes were good, after that I got kinda bored. Like no point watching, but one good thing about it is that the main character Mimi is a really solid character. I really liked her. Other characters werent bad as well. I guess if you dont want a story, its a good watch. Don't recommend
Beginning after the end s2 6/10 higher than 4/10 from 1st season. Yeah, I did watch s2 after all lol. It was terrible ofc, and was very painful to wath at times, at times I wanted to drop it, but there were some nice moments. I also know they added things like the final fight, that wasnt in the original story lol. So yeah its terrible. Like again, I don't recommend
Otagal - 7/10. Again wish fullfilment, but it was kinda funny lol. Not much to say since I am not a fan, but I'd say recommended since I think you would like it.
Thursday
ramparts of ice 7/10. Its a good anime for sure, but like I mentioned before, its just not my cup of tea. But I'll admit its good.
Barbarian's Bride 7/10. Not a fan of the premise, but even setting that aside, it's not interesting. Don't recommend
[b]Petals of reincarnation 3/10. I wish I'd quickly forget it. It was terrible on every possible level, not just that, but it also made me feel disgusted inside, which is not easily achievable. As marianette said. "I'm glad this shit is over". I know you watched it already, but I don't recommend it lol
Oh, one thing I wanna comment on, which you might agree on, is how poorly it used characters. We had tons of characters, and most of them died in the dumbest way possible lol. You felt nothing for them, they just died too quickly, and you met them just an episode ago. I wish this anime either stuck with low cast, its fine if you dont mention every brilliant talented person, just use the ones you are using well, and its not like this anime included every talented person right? basically quality over quantity. Then this shit about double einstein lol, like just use another genius? doesnt have to be another einstein lol. Then changing genders is something I also am not a fan of. Then the fact that every returner dies from "personal fullfilment" is also stupid. Make you feel nothing when somebody dies.
I also heard its incredibly rushed, like 3 seasons jammed in 1 season. And in the end we ended on the very unsatisfying ending. Maybe they were rushing to get Hato's story solved? Other than that, I dont get whats the rush was for.
Haibara-kun no Tsuyokute Seishun New Game 7/10. This one is weird, while I liked it, it was obvious to even someone who never touched novels before that it was incredibly rushed. Like even take the light music club. It was all done in 2 episodes out of seemingly nowhere lol. We just randomly jumped to that light music club. So yeah felt pretty rushed. One complaint I read from others is that he is capable at too many things, which I agree with. But I also heard there'd be some kind of a rewrite and he'd relive the same school period all over again later in the novels, so that makes me interested in it. I'd say recommend
Awajima Hyakkei 6/10. Not a fan. Don't recommend One thing I wanna mention is that every character look extremely simialr to each other and the story jumps to different time periods all the time, BUT IT DOESNT SHOW IT ON THE SCREEN lol. Then when characters grow up or whatever, I literally can't tell if its a new character or an old one, sometimes they have different hair styles too, that also make me feel like I'm introduced to a new character. Many people complained about the same thing, but those same people also said its a hidden gem.
Friday
its' only 2 animes that I didnt like, so don't wanna mention them. I did want to watch the Kamiina Botan, I dropped it during the first episode since I realized its about girls drinking. But I heard a lot of hype about it, so I wonder what its all about, but I am too burned out and exhausted to watch it after 30 seasonals.
Saturday
Akane-banashi 9/10. This one is my favorite. Unfortunately its too good so every episode takes a very long time to watch and I also need to be in a good mood to watch it, thats why I am behind on it lol. Surprised its this unpopular on mal. Its a very popular manga in japan. recommend
Mao 8/10. Still airing, but I might bump it to 9. It's also an anime I enjoy a lot. I'm gonna pick up manga later, since its very confusing due to how little I know about japanese history and folklore stuff, I think once I undersstand it better, I'd like it more. But it feels like a very old school shonen, maybe thats why I enjoy it so much. I also think its quite good and has an interesting story. recommend
Yomi no Tsugai - unsure on the score since its 2 cour and its incredibly slow and I still have no idea what to think about it after 12 episodes. One thing I can say which I never thought I'd complain about is that its too realistic lol. Like one character mentioned "family register" in context of her officially adopting a boy from another world. It's just one of many things, there were plenty of similar scenarios. Like for example, to live in this world you need some kind of identification card, a passport. But the process of getting it, and explaining how a teenage boy has no passport is complicated. It'd be realistic for every reverse isekai to include a moment of getting a passport and all the complications when it comes to that, but it'd be incredibly boring, so while its realistic, its boring, so I'd wish for it to be skipped. That's kinda the problem in this story.
But what I wanna say, is that at least its interesting and not boring and not painful to watch (if its a compliment). The problem is that there is no hype for me. (I don't care if he finds his parents or not lol). Recommended, because its a mainstream anime and you need to watch it
Kill blue 6/10 - it's gonna have second season that I'd watch. but in general its the same as marriagetoxin. Action scenes make no sense, and its very important to me. The story also makes no sense. don't recommend
Yowayowa Sensei I'm behind on it. but it's not bad. recommend
https://myanimelist.net/anime/62018/Ichijouma_Mankitsugurashi 7/10. nothing special, so don't recommend there are better things to watch, and jokes werent hitting it for me. But overall it wasnt bad, not a bad watch.
Brave of scum I mentioned before
I wanted to watch "Agents of the Four Seasons" but I found out about it too late, didn't feel like picking up another thing.
Sunday
Classroom of black cat this one is my #1 anime of the season and maybe this year, no questions asked. It screams favorite for me, There is nothing I dislike about it, and it always lifts my mood. I might even watch it on a bad day, and I'd feel the same. I also think its really good, like even action is hitting it for me, which is rare. Character designs are amazing, characters are cute. Characters are amazing, and have a lot of development, don't feel useless despite a large cast, story is hitting it for me. I am VERY surprised its this masssively underrated, in my opinio it should be 8.0+ score. It's also from a boarding school juliet author. recommend. I'm definitely reading manga very soon and even rewatching the anime.
Wistoria 6/10 I have a lot of hatred towards this series lol. And it mostly comes down to the main character, otherwise its not bad. The world, the system, something I'd like. But the main character and his childhood friend RUIN EVERYTHING. Elfie is extremely annoying with her temper. For Will, its not even his fault, its how the story is using him. First, everyone undermines his existence because he can't use magic, it becomes very annoying to watch, then nobody believes in him. And then it gets repeated x100 and it gets very annoying. Eventually people start respecting him, but it goes too far and its like they are licking his boots. Basically it always goes too extreme. Bad writing in my opinion.
But the magic and the system make me interested in reading the novel lol. Just a reminder, kumo ga desu ka, one of the best novels I've read, despite me hating the main character, the spider and her storyline, which is 50% of the content. Reading spider was life changing for me. It's a prime example how something can be your favorite despite not liking main character. So maybe i'll read it, maybe I won't. recommend cause its mainstream
Nippon Sangoku 7/10. I thought it'd be my favorite after first 3 episodes, but then it went to shit. At least for me, like the story went south, the strategy that they utilized are way way over the top. The way they win battles are too over the top. In general this anime is too over the top, unrealistic. Then the main character memorized every little thing he ever read and quotes it. I mean maybe there are some people like that with that perfect of a memory. But the thing is, anime never addressed it, it acted like its normal having such a good memory. The reason why I am pointing this out, is because in Eris's grail, one character has a perfect memory and can recall everything, but I have no complaint about it, because it was mentioned many many times, that its her special characteristic. I'd still recommend even if I feel like its overrated and not that good
Eating maid 7/10. Maid walks around town and eats stuff lol. That's kinda it, there is no story, but surprisingly its quite nice to watch, and pretty light. It also has a good OP https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxHti52RSwY but since it has no story and just about eating, I wouldn't recommend
Monday short but good
Liar game 8/10 another favorite of mine. I actually might bump the score, but I checked out 10 chapters of the manga and it was superior, actually I felt like there was no point in watching anime. It works perfectly well in the written format. Its quite underrated and has a low score, but its praised a lot on reddit and has even its own subreddit. Its actually a pretty good psychological game story. The best part about it is that games are pretty interesting and realistic and the solutions to games are very down to earth. Someone commented about it, how even a regular viewer can figure it out which creates some hype and discussions while you are waiting for the next episode. Not sure if you watched some other psychological games like Tomodachi game, but the solutions are over the top. Like there is no way to get to the solution if you are a regular viewer. Author always pulls up some bullshit out of his ass, "oh there is actually a hidden rule" or stuff like that. So yeah, I am a big fan of liar game, and I've been watching it on the same day it aired for the last 13 weeks. Actually same with Wistoria, there are only 2 animes that I watched on time this season.
[b]Ponska - still unfinished, another favorite of the season. The comedy hits really well for me, It's really good
Witch hat - 7/10. I am not a big fan, but the final episode was interesting. It has a very good magic system and the world in general. But the problem for me is the story. Saving your mother from your magic mistake is not interesting enough for me. It's also disappointing that we only follow pov of one group. In such a vast world, I really wish we'd follow more characters, albeit briefly. That alone would make me like it a lot more. But it might also be a slow burner, since s2 is announced, it might get a lot better there. recommended
Phew, that took a while. Give me some feedback, if you are ok with that format or not. But to be fair, I won't do that again, since I am not planning on being MIA for 5 months again lol. Just wanted to mention everything I watched last season.
Enough chatter, the point is, I'm all good, and I could've logged in earlier
That's a really nice collection! I actually love that your manga collection started because you got tired of waiting for another season. 😭 I feel like that's how a lot of us end up becoming manga readers.
I'm especially happy to hear Dark Gathering got a Season 2 though! I really enjoyed the first season, so I don't blame you for waiting to experience the next part as an anime first.
I've been doing kind of the opposite lately. If I absolutely fall in love with an anime and don't want to wait years for another season, I'll usually pick up the manga. That's exactly what happened with Witch Hat Atelier—I finished the anime and immediately knew I couldn't wait to see what happens next. 😂
Hopefully Komi and Nagatoro get another season eventually too. It'd be nice to have the option of experiencing those stories in both formats.
I want to start re zero at some point, hows vending machine s3? I watched a few episodes of s1 and enjoyed it for the comedy and niche concept, but have no clue what the anime would be like after 2 seaons haha
And honestly, if you ever decide to give his work a shot, I'd absolutely recommend it. Even if you're not a huge reader, the stories and characters make it easy to get invested. Plus, there's no rush—it's always nice having something great waiting in the backlog. 😄
Out of curiosity, what manga do you already own? 😊
(p.s. yes, it is a copy/paste reply, partly because I'm lazy, and partly because it's the same sentiment, so might as well say the same to everyone) :P
