Hidden accounts
[edit]Good morning Taavi, thanks for your efforts with Majavahbot. I have a question about locked and hidden accounts: the bot at the moment does not seem marking this kind of actions as done, so I am manually patrolling those done by other fellow Stewards. Do you think it might be possible to request access for your bot to the relevant logs (ie. suppression), so it could easily associate no longer accessible CA with Steward actions? - Hey M7, sorry it's taken me so long to reply here. The quick answer is that I don't know, as there isn't comparable predecent that I'm aware of. (There is some precedent for +sysop-bots, mainly from enwiki, but none for OS-bots afaik.) There's two main problems that I can see with this:
- Those logs are currently OS-level information, and as the bot op I technically at the moment don't have that level of on-wiki access (and in the past, bots have been restricted to a subset of their operators access).
- Having the bot see those logs would essentially mean creating a way for anyone who can edit SRG to confirm that an account with a specific name exists and has been suppressed. Currently we'd treat a software function revealing that information as a security bug, so I would imagine we would want to put some safeguards in place to e.g. limit that information leak to only accounts recent enough to have been plausibly reported on the noticeboard (assuming this functionality would be ok in the first place)?
- I believe this project would need a green light from PSI to move forward. Unfortunately I don't think I have the energy at the moment to drive the bureaucracy to get that approval. Best, taavi (talk!) 20:30, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
Lithauen wants to be renamed to "Takuache" because they are sick and tired of having "Lithauen" as their username. Why would your bot archive Lithauen's rename request? ~2026-39135-58 (talk) 17:33, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- It looks like the request was malformed, as the
|status=field had a em dash in place of a normal hyphen, breaking the HTML comment entry. The bot sees that as a non-default status entry and thinks the request has been processed can be archived. taavi (talk!) 18:11, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
