What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?

[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results

[edit]

Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants

[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:56, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:47, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)Reply

Kerry

best of luck - it sure looks like your asking questions, simply illustrates a lack of consultation regarding a name that makes very odd sense in English. Oh well, keep up the good work. Invitation to participate in Universal Code of Conduct survey - WikiWomen's User Group

[edit]

(You are receiving this message as you signed your interest to participate as part of the WikiWomen's User Group)

Hello, my name is Mervat Salman, a UCoC Facilitator, Trust and Safety team.

As you know, the WMF Board of Trustees ratified the Universal Code of Conduct early in February. That's the beginning; the policy itself cannot be used if the enforcement pathways are not defined. The implementation and enforcement of the UCoC requires the continuous cooperation to define clear definitions of enforcement pathways and processes. This needs to be done in a way that does not contradict with the internal bylaws and codes of conduct currently in place, but rather to support them and complement their deficiencies, if any.

In this phase of the process, we would like to invite you to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns about the UCoC implementation, reporting and enforcement pathways using this survey:

Notice: This survey will be conducted via a third-party service, which may subject it to additional terms. For more information on privacy and data-handling, see the survey privacy statement <https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/UCoC_Affiliates_Survey_Privacy_Statement>.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org.

Best regards,

Mervat (WMF) 17:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Kerry Raymond:

We wanted to THANK YOU for expressing your support in our grant application to develop Web2Cit: Visual Editor for Citoid Web Translators and for volunteering to take part in the project. We have great news to share: our proposal has been approved!

In the following weeks, we will be processing some paperwork and refining our next steps for this project. We aim to give updates so you can follow the development of the project and you can understand when and how you can contribute!

But for now, we wanted to thank you and invite you to celebrate with us!

Both Diegodlh and myself are very thankful for your support. --Scann (talk) 12:39, 2 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

With Diegodlh we are inviting people to apply to be an Advisory Board member. Is this you? Is this someone you know?

Check the Call for members and apply to be an Advisory Board member before August 6th!

If you are too busy this time around to apply, don't worry: we get it. You can also help us by spreading the word! We sincerely appreciate it. --Scann (talk) 22:31, 20 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Web2Cit templates and tests

[edit]

Hi, @Kerry Raymond! I see you have been tweaking some Web2Cit configurations. Great news!

If possible, please make sure template paths post to specific URLs rather than generic URL path patterns. Also, please make sure at least one translation test is defined for each translation template. That way other Web2Cit collaborators can help maintain and improve the templates.

More info about these recommendations in my comment here.

Thank you! Diegodlh (talk) 21:42, 24 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Reminder to vote now to ratify the Wikimedia Movement Charter

[edit]
You can find this message translated into additional languages on Meta-wiki. Please help translate to your language

Dear Wikimedian,

You are receiving this message because you previously voted in the 2021 Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) election.

This is a reminder that if you have not voted yet on the ratification of the final Wikimedia Movement Charter draft, please do so by July 9, 2024 at 23:59 UTC.

You can read the final text of the Wikimedia Movement Charter in your language. Following that, check on whether you are eligible to vote. If you are eligible, cast your vote on SecurePoll.

On behalf of the Charter Electoral Commission,

RamzyM (WMF) 15:20, 5 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I believe I have voted a few days ago? So I am surprised to be told I haven't. Kerry Raymond (talk) 03:21, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
If my vote has been lost, have other people's vote also been lost? Kerry Raymond (talk) 03:31, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I believe it's a mass message to everyone who voted in the 2021 MCDC election, even if you voted in the WMC elections of this year. It doesn't say you didn't vote, though. --SHB2000 (tc) 03:49, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Volunteers don't get paid for the time we spend, so I would appreciate it if my time was not wasted by unnecessary reminders. The voting system knows both who is eligible and who has voted, so surely it is possible to send reminders only to those who are eligible and have not voted and not waste volunteer time. Kerry Raymond (talk) 05:53, 6 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Web2Cit improvements

Hi, @Kerry Raymond!

I'm writing to you because you have contributed to Web2Cit collaborative configurations in the past two years.

I'm considering applying for a Rapid Fund grant to support working on some long-pending tasks to improve user experience, fix annoying bugs and encourage developer participation.

I'm still deciding on the list of tasks I will include in the proposal. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it if you could leave your feedback here.

Thank you! Diegodlh (talk) Diegodlh (talk) 16:03, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Web2Cit template paths

[edit]

Hi @Kerry Raymond! Thank you for being a Web2Cit contributor!

Some translation templates you have worked on may need attention. Could you help us fix them?

Translation templates should be based on specific webpages and ideally should have corresponding translation tests indicating the expected output. This is important for maintainability, so other contributors can understand why a template has been set in some way, and so the Web2Cit Monitor can detect when citations break.

We found some templates for paths that do not have a corresponding test. This is usually because the path is generic (i.e., not corresponding to a specific webpage of interest; e.g., / or /**), or simply because a translation test hasn't been defined for that path.

Here's a list of domain configurations you have contributed to, and corresponding template paths for which no tests have been defined. Other editors may have contributed to these files as well and they will or have been notified too.

To help us, for as many of these paths as you can, could you please make sure:

  1. that it corresponds to a specific webpage of interest, and
  2. that a corresponding translation test has been defined?

It is a long list, I know. Therefore, I would suggest that you mainly focus on point 1 (making sure that paths correspond to a specific webpage of interest). Point 2 (making sure a test has been defined for each path) is important for maintainability, but less urgent.

For the full list of domains affected, you can check our new Web2Cit Monitor Results with missing tests category.

Note that to help prevent this issue in the future, the templates editor has been updated to only accept paths that already have a test defined.

Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you again for your support!

Hi, @Kerry! I hope you are doing alright :)
Do you think it could make sense to have a workshop with other Wikimedians in Australia, who may be interested in these sources, to define tests (or change generic paths, as required) together?
If you think folks may be interested, I could lead the workshop if you want. We could begin with some introduction, then have a collaborative table to decide who will work with which domains and mark them as done, and then have one hours of so of hands-on work.
I think it would greatly improve Web2Cit configuration maintainability for the Australian sources you have worked on.
What do you think? Diegodlh (talk) 16:39, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
