Grants & Subsidies
There are several programs in Canada that award grants and subsidies to existing magazines. Currently there is no specific funding available to new publications. Always check the eligibility criteria of each program you are researching and talk to a representative of the funding organization before proceeding with an application.
Federal
Canada Periodical Fund
Canadian Heritage is responsible for national policies and programs that promote Canadian content, foster cultural participation, active citizenship and participation in Canada’s civic life, and strengthen connections among Canadians.

The Canada Council for the Arts is Canada’s national, arm’s-length arts funding agency. Its main areas of activity are:
Cultural Agencies
Ontario Creates
In Ontario, Ontario Creates offers funding to eligible magazines based in the province. Ontario Creates, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, is the central catalyst for the province’s cultural media cluster including book publishing, film and television, interactive digital media, magazine publishing and music industries.
Provincial Councils & Foundations
Arts and literary magazines may find grants available to their organizations through their local arts councils and various foundations, including:

* Non-profit organizations that publish a magazine may want to investigate the grants available through the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
