preventive medicine
Medicine that aims to prevent illness and injury, instead of treating it only after it has become an issue. Also called "preventative medicine." Routine mammograms are an effective form of preventive medicine. Unless you want to be violently ill for days, get the flu shot now—preventive medicine is always the best!
