slang Jail. The term is an English phonetic approximation of the Spanish word juzgado, meaning "courtroom" or "tribunal." A new sheriff arrived into town, and before long the hoosegow was overrun with criminals. I hear the cops picked Johnny up and threw him in the hoosegow. Geez, what did he do now? They'll put you in the hoosegow if they find out that you were involved in the robbery!
