To ask or try to learn more about someone or something. The alternative spelling, "inquire," is more common in American English. Primarily heard in UK. Mother, if Gerald enquires about you, what should I tell him? I'm enquiring about that bill right now. A: "The police are here to enquire about this weekend's guests." B: "Wait, do they think one of their suspects was here?"
