droid
1. informal A shortening of "android," a self-operating humanoid robot. Most often used in science fiction. This bar is strictly for organic lifeforms—no droids allowed! Ugh, I've already died on this level four times—these stupid droids keep electro-shocking me! It's a cautionary tale—the guy builds his own droid and it kills him in the end.
2. slang A person who acts in a mechanical, automatic, or lifeless manner; a robotic person. I felt sorry for all the droids on the bus, commuting to their soul-sucking desk jobs where they would type away mindlessly at their computers for eight hours a day. I don't see you ever becoming some office droid—you've always had the free-spirited soul of artist. I can't wait to be off next week. I hope this vacation snaps me out of going through the motions every day, like a real droid.
