Racial Justice

Initiative Overview

Addressing deep-rooted inequalities can help ensure we all thrive in flourishing communities and have control over the decisions shaping our lives and futures. Hewlett’s racial justice work promotes equal opportunity for all by addressing systemic inequalities across issue areas and in society. In 2024, the initiative awarded $18.4M through 20 grants.

    Priorities

  • Strengthen the field of racial and economic justice and enhance efforts across our other programs to advance a vision of a more inclusive society where all people, communities, and the planet thrive.

  • Identify and promote practices within the Hewlett Foundation, such as awarding multiyear flexible funding and rooting out implicit bias, to improve our philanthropy and build a culture of belonging.
