Each year, the AAC Chairperson selects a theme that helps focus the Council’s work and guides the selection of the Gomes honorees. This year’s theme is “Courage with Humility”—the willingness to lead with conviction while remaining open to the wisdom of others. It holds together two truths: that we can act boldly and faithfully, and at the same time acknowledge that we do not hold all the answers. Found across sacred traditions and central to the mission of Harvard Divinity School, this theme reminds us that humility is not weakness but a radical act of strength—a way of carrying power with care, listening deeply, and welcoming transformation.
