Community and Belonging

Community and Belonging

Harvard Divinity School is committed to community and belonging as an expression of our shared values and attends to the needs of our vibrant, pluralistic community of faculty, students, staff, and alumni. We carry out these values with open hearts and open minds in service of honoring our shared humanity.

Vision

Rooting its work in love, and committed to the core academic mission of Harvard Divinity School, the HDS Office for Community and Belonging envisions a future in which all people embrace their common humanity, affirm their interdependence within a pluralistic world, and work to support the flourishing of all beings.

Mission

The mission of the HDS Office for Community and Belonging is to provide restorative, holistic support to our School and foster conditions—inside and outside the classroom—in which every member of HDS’s pluralistic community can cultivate connection, build trust, learn from others, and promote the well-being of one another as we develop the capacity to work across difference, as guided and held by an ethic of care.

Acknowledgment of Land and People:

Harvard University is located on the traditional and ancestral land of the Massachusett, the original inhabitants of what is now known as Boston and Cambridge. We pay respect to the people of the Massachusett Tribe, past and present, and honor the land itself which remains sacred to the Massachusett People.

Community Care Team

The Community Care Team is a small group of HDS community members composed of staff, students, and faculty creating a heart-centered space for those in need of care when they have experienced harm and/or have or are worried they have caused harm.
