Citing In-Person Interviews in MLA Format

Template 

Last name of interviewee, First Name. Interview. By interviewer First Name Last Name, Day Mon. Year of Interview. 

Example

Myers, Elizabeth. Interview. By Bob Jones, 12 Mar 2025. 

Citing Elders in MLA Format

Template

Last name, First Name, Elder, Nation/Community. Topic/subject of communication if applicable. Personal communication, Date Mon. Year. Territorial Acknowledgement of where information was shared/collected. 

Example

Lekeyten, Elder, Kwantlen First Nation. Community Justice. Personal communication, 4 April 2019. Shared on the traditional unceded territory of the Kwantlen, Musqueam, Katzie, Semiahmoo, Tsawwassen, Qayqayt and Kwikwetlem Peoples.  

Citing Interviews Conducted Over Email

Template

Last name of interviewee, First Name. "Subject Line of Email." Received by Interviewer, Day Mon. Year. Email Interview.

Example 

Stewart, Hazel. "Documents form National Library of Scotland". Received by Catie Reynolds, 27 Sept. 2025. Email Interview. 

Citing an Interview Printed in Another Source in MLA Format

Template

Last name of Interviewee, First name of Interviewee. "Title of the Interview". Interview conducted by First Name Last Name. Title of Article Containing the Interview, edited by First Name Last Name, Journal Publication, Year, page range. 

Example
