The white grape variety originates from Italy. Its parentage is unknown. It should not be confused with the varieties Verdea, Verdeca, Verdesse, Verdise or Verdiso, which have similar names. This late-ripening vine produces straw-yellow white wines with a neutral flavour, similar to Riesling Italico (Welschriesling). It is cultivated on Lake Como in Lombardy. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
