Spend your first year semester abroad!
Accelerate your journey to global citizenship with Georgia Tech’s First-Year Semester Abroad (FYSA) Program!
Launched in 2021, this innovative program, jointly managed between the Office of International Education and the Office of Undergraduate Education & Student Success, leverages Georgia Tech’s global sites and programs to provide a high-quality, experiential learning opportunity for incoming first-year students who wish to internationalize their college career right from the start.
Begin your studies at Georgia Tech in a special, late summer session in Atlanta. Next, head abroad for your first fall semester at one of two options: FYSA @ GTE, hosted by Georgia Tech’s European site in Metz, France and FYSA @ Oxford, where you will study and live at one of the Colleges of the University of Oxford in England and then continue your coursework as you travel throughout continental Europe. While abroad, your classes will all be GT courses, taught in English, and earn credits towards your GT degree. Finish the year with spring semester back on the Atlanta campus.
Each track is selective, with limited enrollment to ensure a high degree of student-faculty interaction.
In First-Year Semester Abroad programs, students will:
- Start their undergraduate education at Georgia Tech’s main (Atlanta) campus in a 3-week late summer session that typically begins late summer (mid-July) and includes three credit hours of courses.
- Depart for their fall semester abroad experience either at Georgia Tech Europe (GTE) in Metz, France (FYSA @ GTE) or the University of Oxford in England (FYSA @ Oxford). While abroad, they will take 12-15 credit hours of GT courses. All courses are taught in English and earn GT credits.
- Return to GT’s Atlanta campus for spring semester to complete their first year.
