C5H4N(CH3) Family of colorless liquid isomers, soluble in water and alcohol; the alpha form, boiling at 129°C, is used as a solvent and chemical intermediate, and is also known as 2-methyl pyridine; the beta form, boiling at 143.5°C, is used as a solvent for chemical synthesis reactions, to make nicotinic acid, and in fabric waterproofing, and is also known as 3-methyl pyridine; the gamma form, boiling at 143.1°C, is used as a solvent for chemical synthesis reactions and in fabric waterproofing.
