Actually, all Gripens have the inboard and
fuselage stations "wet," but normally only one fuel tank is carried to leave room for more weapons.
The existing AD requires a one-time inspection to detect cracks of the lower frames and reinforcing angles of the main deck cargo door where the door latch fittings attach between certain
fuselage stations and water lines, and replacement of any cracked part with a new part with the same part number.
The Eurofighter's fuel tank to be supplied by Dowty has been purpose-designed for supersonic speeds and to fit under both wings and
fuselage stations on the aircraft.
The aircraft has four underwing and two
fuselage stations capable of carrying air-to-ground ordnance, including Kh-31P anti-radar missiles (110 km range), Kh-31A anti-ship missiles (70 km range), Kh-29L laser-guided or Kh-29T TV-guided air-to-ground missiles, and KAB-500L/Kr (laser/TV) guided bombs.
This AD would require a general visual inspection to detect chafing or damage of the feeder cables of the external ground power in the forward cargo compartment between certain
fuselage stations, and repair if necessary.
