Siirt

 

a city in southeastern Turkey, in Diyarbakir Vilayet. Located in the Buhtan River valley (Tigris River basin). Population, 29,400 (1970). Siirt is the commercial center of an agricultural region where grains are grown and goats and sheep are raised. It is connected by highway with Diyarbakir. Enterprises include flour mills and a tobacco factory. Oil is extracted in the area northwest of the city.
