Raichikhinsk

 

a city under oblast jurisdiction in Amur Oblast, RSFSR. The terminus of a railroad branch line from the Bureia station on the Trans-Siberian Railroad. Population, 27,000 (1974). Raichikhinsk is a major center of the coal-mining (lignite) industry. The coal is mined by the open-cut method. The city has a state regional electric power plant, illumination-engineering and machinery repair plants, a glassworks, and a footwear factory. It also has an evening industrial technicum and a medical school. Raichikhinsk arose in 1933 and became a city in 1944.
