A Liberal Democrat Freedom of Information request has revealed that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has employed 2,700 new staff to prepare for Brexit.

The ruling Labour group has 52 seats, while there are six Conservatives, one Liberal Democrat and one Independent.

And as Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens prepare to do battle they will have to contend with candidates from the UK Independence Party (UKIP) in a third of district wards.

In the 2015 UK Parliament Election, the Conservative Party targeted only 26 Liberal Democrat constituencies because they were the only ones it could win and in the knowledge they had been seriously weakened by defections to UKIP Labour and Greens long before election campaigning began.

FLINTSHIRE Liberal Democrats are celebrating an overwhelming win for their candidate in the New Brighton by-election for a seat on Flintshire Council Sara Parker gained 365 votes, 124 more than her nearest rival.

There are currently 11 Liberal Democrat councillors in Birmingham out of a total of 120.

The Tories could lose seats to Labour and votes to UKIP, but the Tories could get a working majority by making gains off the Liberal Democrats. That's not because former Liberal Democrat voters are voting Tory.

The Liberal Democrat policy has been to favour the Single Transferable Vote or STV in a multi-member constituency, which allows a more subtle delivery of the popular to parliament, while also maintaining the constituency link, as no one wants to move to a national list system which gives far too much power to the party managers who are allowed to place the candidates on the order (someone in place 10 is very likely to get a seat, while the unfortunate fellow placed 200 may struggle).

IN response to the article (ECHO December 16 ) Liverpool Labour and Liberal Democrats in pact to solve cash crisis, I question the claim by Warren Bradley that the Liberal Democrats are setting aside tribal politics in Liverpool for the greater good.
