Chesapeake Bay

a bay of the Atlantic Ocean on the coast of the USA. Along with Delaware Bay, the Chesapeake Bay isolates the Delmarva Peninsula. The bay is 315 km long and 5–30 km wide. It reaches a depth of 27 m; the depth of the fairway is more than 11m. The shoreline is low, swampy, and heavily indented by the mouths of numerous rivers, including the Susquehanna, Potomac, James, and others, which form natural harbors. The tides are semidiurnal, measuring up to 1 m. The chief port on the Chesapeake Bay is Baltimore.
