yacare (plural yacares)

  1. A caiman (Caiman yacare), indigenous to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay.
    • 1859, Cassell's popular natural history, page 24:
      The yacare is not found farther south than the 32nd degree of south latitude. In its habit completely aquatic; and is never found excepting in the water or on the bank.
