    Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese tregua, from Medieval Latin tregua, borrowed from Proto-Germanic *trewwō, possibly Proto-West Germanic *treuwu, or possibly Gothic 𐍄𐍂𐌹𐌲𐌲𐍅𐌰 (triggwa). Cognate with truce.
