    Borrowed from Japanese (りき)(しゃ) (rikisha), a clipping of (じん)(りき)(しゃ) (jinrikisha), from Middle Chinese 人力 (nyin lik, human power) +‎ (t͡ʃʰæ, cart) (compare Mandarin 人力車 / 人力车 (rénlìchē)).
